Don't you have one on the turbo?If not drax could help i have a stock wastegate and does 13 psi no problem it will go higher but my pop off valve is too weak to hold any more pressure than that.If it's the blow off valve then look on ebay there are alot of them on there.

I have the stock ecu and it has a knock sensor it senses for detonation and retards the timing.Isn't that boost sensor an add on for your msd?If so i'd go that way and if you want the stock ecu do you want to sell your ignition system?I haven't had any problems with my stock ecu but everyone tells me to change it out for a good after market one.Hope it helps

Tim i'm running a big ic and it goes about 10 in first and 12 in second and then in third it hits 13.That's as high as it will go in any gear.You guys mentioned the exhaust cutting it back on top end boost but is it normal to boost low and build in the gihger gears?If you don't mind can you email me your phone number?Or something it would be easier to talk in person.

Thanks guys i'm going to change the exhaust next what do you suggest?I was thinking 3" pipe but what kind of muffler or should i even run a muffler?Michigan has no emission standards so i'm free to do as i please.Does anyone know if the turbo will make the same boost in any gear or does it work it's way up as the gear gets higher?

oh ya how do you measure back pressure if your not rich to afford the expensive tools to do it?

The exhaust i'm running it the twice pipes and i think it is restricting it some.And tim it doesn't drop from 14lbs to 10 it just drops about a lb in any gear for example in first it will run 11 lbs then drop back to 10 and in second it will run 14 then drop back to 13 and stays that way thru the gears.How much does the stock turbo produce max in first?I was wondering to see if i did something wrong.The fuel pump i have is an after market one mine blew out a few months ago and i had a high pressure one ordered before i had the turbo in the car.I think i'll change the exhaust when i can get the money.What injectors do you suggest?I plan to run 20 to 25 lbs of boost when it's all said and done so i'd like to get something i won't have to replace twice.What would happen if i took the fuel pressure regulator right off?Or am i going to have to get an adjustable one?Thanks for the help so far i'm learning

Tim it goes to about 11# then drops to 10# when the rpm goes up.If i have a good ic do i need to retard the timing.I have it hitting about 14psi now and i hear no knocking.In first how much pressure can the turbo produce?How much can the stock turbo produce max?I have my dial a boost open all the way now and i get about 14 lbs max.I think i need to adjust the afm too richen it up alittle what do you guys think.Man that thing hauls ass with that much boost.

I'm no rocket scientist either but i make due.By trade i'm a radio installer like cop radios and radios for farmers,truckers all that stuff i try to stay away from cb's they suck the band is just a crappy band.I use to be a mechanic for a ford dealership so i know cars.I've done alot of jobs so every where i work i pick stuff up.I'm glad you have helped me or else i would have killed my engine already.I haven't had any problems with my ecu yet it has worked great so far.I'm at about 12 psi now and it runs great no knocks yet i think i'll need that hybrid turbo sooner that i thought. I bought the book from motor sport maximum boost and it is a great book but i don't understand all the stuff in it i'll have to read it a coupl more times before i understand it all.

Thanks sleeper i didn't explain good what i ment to say was it senses knock in the engine and retards the timing.The exhaust i have is twice pipes i have a feeling it is restrictive but it does spool up fast.My ic is a big one i couldn't tell you how efficent it is i think it's off of a volvo but i'm not sure.What kind of system are you running from the sopulds of it you never used a stock ecu.Is your programmable?

I asked this question before but i can't remember who i talked with but they told me the stock zxt computer automatically adjusts the timing when more boost is given but i forgot to ask if you get higher if it still adjusts the timing or if it only goes so far and stops.He also said it only adjusts up to 4k.So i'm going to give my baby a couple more pounds do i have to retard it at all?I'm going to take the boost up to14 lbs or so.this isn't a timing question but when my boost gets up high it drops just a bit like it will go to 11# then after it stays there like i'm building speed it will drop to 10# my guess is the pop off valve anyone think the same or different?Thanks to everyone on this site you guys have been so helpful before hopefully you can help again.

I've done a burnout while holding the break and it works just fine it just gets so much boost so quick on my car it redlines fast if i'm not paying attention.I love my zt

Well like i've said before my 76zt runs great and tomorrow i am going to the track and i'll post times as soon as i get back.My question is to all the turbo guys.I was wondering how many guys can make their car break the tires loose just by hitting the gas in first?When i take off nicely and then just punch the gas it spools up and kicks the car sideways just a little but the tires are definately spinning.I was also wondering if any one's second feels slower than first?Mine does it seems to be screaming at me in ti's own way i'm starving for more boost.Well i'll probably check in one more time tonight and then tomorrow to post my times thanks.

i had mine bent at a muffler shop and it is a good job they made both pieces and there are only three places that i have rubber hose two on the ic and one on the intake.If some one could post pics for me i'll email them to someone.

hey scott what they are saying it the acuator only works on boost when your turbo spools up it puts out boost and pushes the acuator diaphram and opens the wastegate.They are suggesting moving it inbetween the ic and throttle butterfly so it sees the pressure it needs up there to keep the boost constant in every gear.I'm going to do it soon. -
it runs raelly good now and we just got back from grand rapids it was a 3 and a half hour drive we went to meet bumble zee it was fun there are alot of rice cars there but most where tastefully done.Read my fixed the problem post you'll find out why it runs better.Thanks for the help guys

I just did that swap and at first mine was fast but it did have alot of lag well just today i found out my wastegate was open a quarter of an inch all the time so it spooled up sloooowly.I fixed that and now it is sweeeet.I don't even notice lag at all but i'm use to the thing not spooling up fast.Mine is a 76 and my motor is out of an 81 i put the 5sp on it and it is fast i'll let you know what the quarter time is next weekend that's when i'm going.If you have any questions on the swap i can tell you it only took me two days to do the swap.I have a ic and i've turned up the boost to 9psi cuz that's where the stock pop-off valve blows at you can safely run 9 psi with out an intercooler but use good gas.

Well after reading the posts directed to z ferrari i checked my wastegate i took off the rod and checked to see if it moved freely and i went to put it back on and realized it wouldn't go it wasn't shutting all the way it was about a quarter of an inch open all the time so it took along time to spool up i thought it went good before holy $hit it really goes now especially in first all i did was bend the bracket back it was bent forward and now i can't believe the diff it spools up so quickly it seems there is no lag.

drax i ment the turbo thing you've been into it far longer than i have and it's nice to hear from you and scottie gnz and all the others.Evan i think they are two inch.And it sounds great it has a great deep tone and as you speed up the engine it gets quieter it just sounds good and mean.I don't think it's choking the engine at all it seems to have alot of power but i don't have a good running z to compare it to either.I just love driving it we went for a ride to grand rapids here in MI to see bumble zee and meet him and hang out and it ran great oil pressure was about70 psi all the way there cruising about 80 all the way there it was nice to have power in 5th gear and not have to down shift to pass on the free way and if i did down shift hold on cuz it was like a rocket.I can't wait til i can run her at the drag way.

ohhhhhhh i see thanks for the math lesson.So i'd be better off with one pipe due to more surface loss on the two pipe's surface.I have a splitter that probibly doesn't flow too good either.

het tim i have a dial a boost on it and i run it wide open cuz the pop off valve releases the rest would i still have to move the feed line for wastegate? -

i see what your saying now sorry it was a long night.So you want me to take the pressure line off the turbo for the wastegate and move it to the pipe between the ic and throttle? -

Thanks guys it runs like a bat out of hell now i have the gauge hooked in the intake.It feels quicker to me seems to not take as long to spool up.Hey guys how do you post pics on here?I'll show the ic and piping i know it's doing it's job cuz if i touch the piping before the ic and after there is a huge diff in temp even if i try on the intake side on the ic and the out of it i get the same results.I don't know how effecent it is but it does work really well.
