  1. Hey guys after visiting the mitsu site for a while they talk about gapping the plugs smaller, why?Is it acually worth the time?Does it produce anymore power or is it a myth?
  2. Hey jason you have two turbo cars?If not the turbo ecu won't work in a n/a car.But i'm sure you know that. What i did when i got my ic on i used starting fluid and sprayed it around to try and find a leak.If you keep it running and rev it up and spray around it should slow down the engien if you find it.I tried it on my car and was spraying too close to the air fliter and it was sucking it in and caused it to slow the engine down.Is the AFM good? That was another problem with mine when i got it running.Hey sleeper the ecu in mine got wet and i think that's what caused it to do what it was doing. In my other z the 82 the alternator was over charging and it fried the ecu but on the 82 it killed it all together.Hope you figure it out.
  3. I have a turbo motor in my 76z and i hit 12.9 @ 105 in the quarter too.The whole donor car cost me 100 bucks.I needed some other parts cuz the car wasn't running when i got it.The stock clutch won't handle the power but i did those times on street tires and pump gas with the clutch slipping. I think in all with the motor included i spent about 600 bucks to get where i am now.The engine fit right in no mods to the mounts or anything. All that has to be done is the wiring harness has to be wired and you have to make sure you have a r200 rear so you don't kill the r180 with that much power.I had my swap done in two days.
  4. If you still have problems with it i had the same problem but everything was hooked up right and it turned out to be the ecu in my car.I adjusted my afm alot like almost all the way closed.I have bigger injectors too and that's how i tuned mine in.
  5. I have to check it again to make sure i didn't screw anything up when the exhaust gasket blew.Hey shane what do you have done to your z?Do you have any pics?I'd like to see what you have done to hit 11's.That's my goal next
  6. Good idea guys i don't know why i didn't think of it I put in a piece of on old gasket for right now and used some heat resistant sealer for now.I'm taking the engine out soon anyway so it will be alot easier to change the gaskets when the engine is out.Plus i'm changing the intake anyway so it's no big deal.Oh tim i checked the compression and it was an even 100 across all the cylinders i need to change the oil again it's got about 2500 on it.But i thought it was ok.What do you think?
  7. Well rather than put in plugs on the intake where i took off the unused vacuum lines i juat capped them off with rubber caps.Well They have popped off about three times before and it causes the car to over boost(detonation) so it back fires some times and pops sounds horrible.Well i was doing a burnout for all you guys on video(sweet one at that)and it blew one of the caps off and it over boosted on the way back to my friend's house and it back fired and blew about a 1/2"wide section out of my exhaust gasket so it sounds like a rought V8 now with a manifold leak I'm was going to replace it anyway but now i have a reason to.For now i'm going ot put in a piece of gaslet to seal it til i can get it apart to replace the whole thing. In about a month or less the engine will be out so i'll do it then. When i get the video put on the web i'll let you guys know where it is.
  8. I have a stock ecu and it had a auto on it and i put on a 5 sp.My car runs high 12's with stock ecu and engine.I've added some small mods but like drax said aim higher the stangs and cameros aren't any fun anymore.
  9. I was wondering what i sould sell it for?I have one on a 71z and i just want to see it get used. It's a shame to see those good parts go to waste.Anyone got a clue what i should ask i had two people asking about it and didn't know what to tell them.
  10. I'm running a 3" all the way to the back and love the performance.Stock zxt's have 2.5" exhaust so your probably loosing a little power.I'm no expert like some of thses guys i just thought i'd share my experience on the 3".I had twice pipes from motorsport on it and as soon as i changed the exhaust i noticed a huge difference. My clutch started slipping bad in the top gears and i dropped over a half second on the quarter times i did add bigger injectors too so it wasn't all exhaust but it did help alot.My car runs 12.9@105mph and all i did was put in the bigger injectors and 3" exhaust i turned the boost up to 18psi and added an ic the rest is all stock and i had clutch slippage and tire spin off the line.
  11. About dang time i can post a message on this topic.I talked with timz and he thinks 500 is a bit much for a clutch which i agree but i didn't have anything to compare it to.I'm going to try clutch specialties to see if they can get me an affordable non chattering clutch that will hold the power.Tim has been bery helpful with the whole clutch thing he has taken alot of time to explain the differences to me and what is better and what is junk.Shane what do you run in your z? Any one had good luck with their clutches on their turbo zs?If so let me know i'm in need of a big healthy clutch.
  12. well i was lost at first but it made sense after shane put some light on the subject.Shane what do you have done to yours to get 11's?I'm going to buy a clutch that is more than i want so i can mod more later.I can hit 1.73 60'with the stock clutch it's the top end where the clutch suffers alot third, fourth and fifth really kill it.I'll call tomorrow long rod 327z what's your name?So i can ask for you and identify my self.I'm going to need something not too pricy but can hold the turbo.
  13. My tires are daytona HR/4's they came with the rims when i bought them used. The size is 225 50 R16's they are really bald i mean really bald. The car launches great when i can do it right. But it's in the top end it has problems the clutch can't hold the power the engine is putting out now.
  14. For those who don't know my setup i'm going for 350 to 400 horse and the stock clutch isn't holding for what i have now.I was told to find out what the majority of you guys perfer.I was thinking about a center force the dual friction one but i need to know what's the best one i can get for a good price that will hold the power?
  15. I can answer alittle depending on the system you should be able to change turbos fairly easy some mods are required for bigger turbos. The turbo does produce back pressure it's just like a muffler if you run a turbo car w/o a muffler and a n/a car w/o a muffler the n/a car will be alot louder. As far as the two cars side by side i don't know for sure but my lag is almost not noticable. The turbo engine has lower compression so that would hurt it during lag.If i rev up my n/a z it tachs up quickly if i tach up my turbo it tachs up slower cuz it has to go thru the turbo. But if i step on it in first in both cars you know which one will be quicker.Hope it helps and i didn't steer you in the wrong direction. If i'm wrong guys point it out so i can learn from it too.
  16. Hey scott i posted a reply on zcar but i will add this in my car the clutch is slipping and it won't hlod full boost when it's slipping. So tire spin is basically the same as my clutch slipping.Andrew is right about the burnout thing it's what i tried and made a huge difference in my car.I did my regular burnout but then crept forward and it picked up the soft stuff and stuck to my hot tires.Worked for me my best 60'time now is 1.73.
  17. I'm not as good at this as others but i have a n/a 80 2+2 tranny in mine and it does really good.I like it cuz it launches like crazy and still cruises at about 2500 rpm at 55.The only problem i have right now is the stock clutch is still in it and when the turbo spools up in fourth and fifth it slips bad.But a center force clutch is coming soon to rid that problem. As far as i know the stock 5 sp can handle a hell of alot of power.I don't regret doing the swap in my 76 at all i should have done it along time ago.
  18. I was driving to my friend's house today and stepped on the gas and it spooled up and the engine was reving very high and i wasn't going any faster.Let off and the smell of burnt clutch started coming in.Tried again and same result.Well i know the stock 2+2 clutch's limit now time for a center force
  19. Thanks nigel so it can be on all the time the car is running. That's what i needed to know.
  20. Does anyone know how to hook up a three wire sensor i know one goes to the wire that went to the one wire but do the other two just go to power all the time?I got my new muffler and it's sweet 4" out 3" in very nice and brite in the sun It sounds great it is amazing how much sound is cut down with a straight thru muffler. The whole exhaust system cost me $220 3" all the way to the back and a magnaflow racing muffler polished stainless i thought it was good deal.
  21. I think i'm going to change to a three wire one soon the one wire one just isn't too accurate.I feel the heater in the sensor will help alot.I put a hole in the dash so it would go in.It looks good when i fiberglass the dash i'll make a little lump like the stock gauges so it matches. It's nice to see what the car is doing and it's kinda entertaining watching the little LED's go back and fourth
  22. Man is it nice it's an auto meter the ultra lite one i like it My muffler is in too after all the heart wrenching of the WTC it's good to see that i can still smile I can't wait to see what the muffler sounds like it looks sweet. Please excuse my excitement in this time of sadness but i have to stop thinking about it for a while it really bums me out.
  23. I forgot to check the pressure while the line was off.I can do that easy i got the af gauge coming i found one on ebay for 58 bucks shipped to my door!So that's next plus opening up the exhaust made a huge diff in the performance i'll have to check it after i get the new gauge and see if the exhaust made a diff on the fuel mixture.Hopefully tomorrow it will not rain so i can make a few passes at the track.Bad news on something else though i was driving after the new exhaust was installed(sounds great )and second had no problem setting the car side ways and third well it reved up then the clutch cought up with the engine. So a center force clutch is in order for the over winter mods.It sounds so sweet and has alot more balls. The guys who did my exhaust are just blown away by the power that little six cylinder has They got to drive it from my work to the shop and i told the guys to be careful the boost takes you by suprise.I got to the shop to talk to them and they said they barely gave it any gas and it was gone.I told them it was quick but they didn't believe me now they do and have a new respect for the imports.I'm getting a magnaflow exhaust it's coming in next week it's a sweet muffler with tip all stainless polished.I'll try to post pics when it's done the 3" is just nice looking.I get everyone's attention now but no cops yet Hope i don't get their's either the muffler will be in soon and it will bring the noise down some to toletant levels.I'm going to save for a programable unit for the fuel and ignition so the stock one can get sold and away from me.
  24. checked the voltage reading on my o2 sensor and it's running rich all the time.Voltage was about .950volts it would change and drop some but mostly stayed there. How can i lean it more with the stock system?I've adjusted the afm some i'm not sure if i can adjust it anymore.Anyone got any suggestions?
  25. Change of plans the track opens for testing at 2:00pm and i'm going to go to baycity then come back and race then goto the track.Let me know what's up
