I think i'll get a motorcycle carb and a fuel pump.I was thinking about it today while i was working and figured it wouldn't be that expensive to do it that way.It will be fun as soon as the snow hits but til then it's a great time to work out the bugs.

Hey phil we need bumpers but i think i want to run it without them it looks better. We do need a dash cuz no one has one they are all for the 68's and higher none for the 67.5'sEverything else is there the engien runs and has alot of power i was very impressed.I took it out and tried to do a burnout and i reved it up and dumped the clutch and it was just sitting there reving up i was thinking man it needs a new clutch! But then i pushed in the clutch and the car rolled forward and i looked back and saw two skinny black marks it was just baking the little tires I was very impressed can't wait to drive it down the road.Hey how did you mate up a 5sp on the GN motor? Was it expensive?

Thanks for the ideas i checked for some sites on turbo sleds but seem to find none i'll have to try the bike sites. The carb is not like a su it's just a plain carb nothing special but i think i will go with a mikuni carb and fuel pump. This is going to get expensive quick i can see it now i just hope the results are worth it.
-
Thanks blk but the carb is a tilloston and it has an internal pump in the carb and it requires the pulsation of the engine when it sucks and blows on the engine's normal cycle.I'm just wondering if it's just getting blow instead of both?I'm checking some sites and hope to find an answer soon.I even thought of a fuel injection system.

well bad news there isn't any snow But i did take it for a ride and the tilliston carb can't pump gas when it's under boost.Anyone have an idea on what i can do?I was thinking about a new carb(used)and maybe a fuel pump what do you think?

Mine cost 600 bucks and i'm at an estimated 300 at the wheels.Give or take alittle hp.I did all the work myself and am glad i went the turbo route
-
Hey mat it is a pre 87 engine what's the difference?
-
the test will be tonight when it goes for it's first ride around the yard.Hopefully i don't tear up the grass my g-friend's mom will kill me if i mess it up

Sweet car we are restoring one right now same year and everything(minus the motor)I was thinking of doing a buick swap i know of a motor and trans and harness for 500 bucks and it runs! But i have to talk my g-friend into it.It's her car that we are restoring do you have any extra parts you are looking to get rid of?We have some parts too if you need any let me know and i'll see what i can do.

I had mine to 10 psi w/o an ic but i wouldn't do it again.Chances are the engine retarded it's self to reduce the detonation.I haven't touched my timing at all on my l28et.Either the ic is that efficent or the computer does a good job adjusting the timing. It depends on alot of things the gas, air temp, ect.
-
Hey sleeper it doesn't have one cuz it only boosts 5 psi right now if it gets higher then i'll hook it up.I'm hoping for at least hitting 60 again since i changed motors it will only go 50 maybe 55 with the wind behind me and going down hill.I think i have clutch problems
-
Thanks lone that was quick!I didn't get a chance to drive it last night i wasn't feeling good so i just snapped some pics and sent them to you.Guys don't mind the flex tube to the carb it's getting changed soon i just wanted to see if it would work before i spent the money on a custom pipe. When i had it running it seemed to have alot more power. But i'll see soon enough when i take it for a ride around the yard on the grass.Oh ya it needs to be cleaned so don't mind the crap on it i just got it out from storage about a week ago. When it's all done i'll see if lone will post some better ones. This is a total sleeper no one would expect a turbo on a sled especially one this old.
-
Thanks lone i'm going to get some tonight.I plan to drive it too i had it running last night but it was too late to drive it.It seems to have alot more power but i'll see.I'll get some out to you after i drive it tonight

Another update i'm getting the 2" pipe for the intake plumbing today and i'll soon see if it will work.It would be so neat if i where riding next to my friend and have my old 73 Harley davidson blow by him on his new polaris.
-
Well i got it all installed well the mounting part. It's not hooked up to the carb yet but it does produce boost.About 4-5 psi sitting there holding the break and giving it gas and it sounds sweet when i let off a nice pshhhhhh sound.I'll take pics but who can i email them to to put them on here?I don't know how yet.I can't wait til i can finish it.Oh ya does anyone think a fuel pump would work for an oil pump?I have racing oil that we use for our go-karts and i think it's 5 weight or less the pump should be able to move it i think.

Hey zpeed i don't know much about carberated cars but in my 80zx the shaft was really worn out i could jiggle it back and forth alot so it is possible to have a bad one.
-
Hey pete go with what you want do you want turbo or V8?I personally have a turbo out of an 81zxt and all the wiring.I have put 600 bucks into my 76 280z including the turbo engine and i'm at 12.9@105mph with the clutch slipping and street tires oh ya pump gas too.I'm running the stock turbo bigger injectors,An intercooler and 3" exhaust all the way to the back. The car is alot of fun to drive and launches great my best 60' time is 1.73sec.I haven't had slicks on it yet cuz the clutch is too bad but maybe next year after the snow goes away i'll try.You will get mixed info from us it's what you perfer not us.So far for me this is the cheapest way to go and i love the turbo. Let us know what you decide

The shop that i took my car to did a great job.I didn't get the exhaust mandrel bent but they did a great job no kinks and smooth all the way back. They where scared to get on my car the owner is my friend and he couldn't believe how much power my car had.He said he never beats on any customer's cars even people he knows and says to.I told him he could get on it if he wanted and he did a little and he said it was enough for him.Good saftey precaution you took with the rev limiter i wish i could do that. But they wouldn't probably beat on it anyway if they are a reputable shop.

Hey daveyz i had the same problem and it turned out to be the efi relay it wasn't letting the injectors work.Check to see if it's getting power and acually switching.I changed mine and it fixed my problem. It could also be a bad wire or an unhooked one on the efi harness. It sounds like the fuel pump is working. The reason it starts and then shuts down is cuz the cold start injector is working.Try that and see if it helps -
Hey justin,I have a turbo swap and i love mine.I spent a total of about 600 bucks including the engine(100 for engine) to get my 76zt into the high 12's.You could get the L28ET motor into the 14's easy with little mods. All i have done is put on an ic,bigger injectors, and 3"exhaust all the way back with zero backpressure muffler.I'd just keep looking for a turbo motor someone has to have another there.I'm in Michigan and i thought no one would have one but i looked on ebay like i did for a long time and found the whole car for 100 bucks. It needed some parts but was well worth it.Plus it's funny seeing the V8 muscle cars look at you like what the heck is that when you blow their doors off.
-
Hey lone it would be cool but those engines are expensive.I thought of getting a belt driven motorcycle engine but i priced a used one and just about crapped my pants. If i can get it to work i'll try to post pics
-
Thanks tim i'll do that

Hey blk i had the same prob on my 76 but it was the hazard switch it was dirty and the contacts wheren't getting good connection.Alli did was switch it back and forth a few times and it wroked. It will also test to see if your wires are good to the back.

What do you guys think? After trying to put it on my go kart(racing)i had to try again.I was thinking about my 73 harley davidson snowmobile the original engine blew before i got the sled and i had to replace it twice so far.I have a yamaha 440 on it now but it just doesn't have the power.I was thinking the turbo i modded for my 5 hp briggs could be easily converted to my sled.Well i know some if not all are saying what the @#$% is he thinking or just laughing but i want to try.Has anyone seen a turbo sled?Or heard of one? i haven't but if someone has i'd like to see it for ideas. The exhaust is alot bigger than my briggs engine and there is two cylinders instead of one and each cylinder is twice the size of the briggs i think it might work.I have alot of room and the maximum boost book i have should help alot with the rest.Plus the added expirence with my car is a bonus. The briggs under full load and full throttle could only produce about 2psi and that's what it needed to run anyless and it would have stalled or been pulling the compresser side instead of being pushed from the exhaust turbine. The briggs exhaust size was only about 1" and the yamaha engine for the sled is about 2" or so and there is two of them. I can make the exhaust header and intake tubing i think it will be scary if it works. Let me know what you guys think and if you have any info.

yea they had the tt and when they raised the boost they taked about closing the gap in the plugs.
