yeah i think the reason why i'm not really having problems with the rb's might be because they don't seem to go as deep towards the middle of the car as the rb-r's seem to.. i'm thinking that if you are trying to go with rb-r's then a zero offset would def be choice, plus the lip would set the whole car off... i always get complients on my z now that i have the rb's on and i only wish that i'd bought some with closer to zero offset with the wider ones being in the back... i always thought z's looked sexy with clean wheel offsets
-
hey wassup man, i'm telling you now that the more negative the offset you can get, the better but these wheels will fit with the 1/4 spacer.. they are +20 offset and the tires i'm using are 215/45/17.. so basically these tires are exactly the width of the rim just a little bit bigger i guess..
-
yep wassup man... umm yeah i have rota rb's also and i ordered them for like 650 shiped... they are 17 by 7.5 with like a 20 or 16 offset.. i'm not sure i'll have to go back and check.. BUT if you are seriously looking to get these wheels you need to consider that if you go with a positive offset like i did then you'll need to get 1/4 spacers for the front along with longer studs in the front also, which is no big deal b/c they are easy to change but make sure to trim them down so they don't stick out too far and get the right lug nuts plus spares... anyways check out my cardomain page to see what they look like with the rb's that i ended up getting.. i have the whole tockico shock/spring setup you have also and i don't have any rubbing issues unless i jack the front up and don't seat the springs properly.. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3004376

okay i'm starting this thread to possibly save someone else the hassle of having to go through all of the trial and error of dropping transmissions, swaping out throuwout bearings and ordering unnecessary parts... the clutch not disengaging after either a trans/flywheel upgrade is fairly common BUT i'm going to talk about at least the fidanza flywheel and 280zx trans since thats what i have.. as of right now i'm running a 1976 280zt with an '81 turbo motor that used to be an auto (yes i took the spacers off the back of the block) ANYWAYS THIS IS THE INFORMATION THAT HELPED ME DURING MY SWAP.... the fidanza lightweight flywheel is physically shorter than the stock flywheel by about roughly 1/4 of an inch.. i didn't realize this until i reinstalled the turbo clutch/pressure plate i purchased... so pretty much you could bleed, adjust and swap out throwout bearings all you want and the clutch still wont disengage. to fix this problem all i did was INSTALL A LONGER SLAVE CYLINDER PIN.. i ended up using a bolt i had laying around the garage but it did end up taking a little bit pf trial and error to get the length just right, and it does require you pulling the clutch for back with either a pry bar or something similar. anyways i hope this helps someone out there doing the same thing i've done i'v been messing with this problem off and on for about a month but thats okay now b/c i can drive my car now and it feels much better
-
alrighty then.... okay guys i think i might have solved my problem... somewhat.. after going through what seemed like gallons of brake fluid AAAAANNDDDDD droping my transmission and putting it back up i don't know how many times amog other things, i've decided to use an old transmission mount bolt, with the head cut off for a slave cylinder rod. it did fix my problem but now my clutch is slipping pretty bad so tomorrow i'm i'm going to start shaving down the bolt until i get the perfect length..

Does anyone know where i can get this kit?
DrEaM replied to drwharton85's topic in Body Kits & Paint
well i'm pretty sure its hard to search for pictures you don't know names of on the internet BUT this guy is on cardomain and i think he is one of the top rated z's on that site -
okay guys its been about a month and i still haven't had the chance to drive my car... it sucks b/c i deploy in a few weeks and i wont be able to drive my craptastic car.. i actually think i might have found something in this thread http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=83857&page=2 but i guess noone on this site has this problem with 280zs so i'll keep you guys updated and when i figure this crap out hopefully there will be a sticky about it b/c after hours of searching and reading there doesn't seem to be any specific answer to this problem BUT there are ALOT of people that seem to have it
-
actually now that i've seen what it looks like with the window turned upside down and with it photoshoped or whatever, i don't even think that its the roofline thats the problem. it would probaly look better if just the rear quarter windows were redesigned, and it would prol be alot easier to do. just my .02 cents
-
so okay guys its been about 4 weeks since i decided to change out my flywheel here is the setup 280z pressure plate 280z clutch fidanza flywheel and 280zx throwout bearing.. i'm really frustrated right now b/c i tried everything with all 280zx turbo parts and it didn't work, i've blead the clutch numerous times and i'm still having this problem. I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY PERSON HERE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM.. i'm just wondering with all of the turbo setups on this site does anyone know what i'm doing wrong? and the clutch master-new clutch fork-new slave cylinder-new and the clutch line is steel braided-new looking for some positive advice here if you have any info i would greatly appreciate it
-
yeah man but everything is BRAND NEW so i don't know how this problem could have all of the sudden came out of nowhere.. i mean i drove the car up to the shop where its being worked on, so i guess i'm going to have to wait until i get my parts from msa.. they said that they'll be here on sat but they aren't going to be here til tues
-
This is the EXACT same problem that i'm having with my recent turbo clutch install and i've posted a thread about it but noone seemed to have the same problem until i saw your post.. right now i'm waiting on parts but if the parts i ordered fix my problem then i'll make sure and leave another reply here
-
holy crap!!! that seems like something that WOULD happen to me considering my luck with my z.. so why did it explode
-
yeah i installed everything right.. i bled the clutch with my friends and i did everything right i'm just thinking that i might not have the right hardware.. i know i'm not the only one with this problem, i'm just wondering what actual setups everyone with turbo swaps in their 280z's are running.. i guess i have to wait for my parts to come in and see if the new collar and throughout bearing is going to help any
-
as far as i know.. yeah, everything was and is adjusted to where it needs to be its just not working like its supposed to.. i've done alot of searching but still haven't found anything
-
okay guys i've spent about an hour trying to figure out what the hell is my problem... i have a fidanza flywheel stock 280zxturbo pressure plate and clutch the clutch will not disengage at all.. i can't put it into any gear. and the pedal feels kinda soft. i thought that i needed to bleed the slave cylinder but that didn't fix anything and i dropped the transmission thinking i might have installed the clutch backwards but i didn't.. everything seemed alright but i still couldn't disengage the clutch.. so what i'm thinking is that i might need to get a 280zx throwout bearing, clutchfork, slave cylinder and clutch master cylinder.. since all of mine are for a 280z and my clutch master is bad if you guys have any advice that would be awsome!! please respond with any good or bad advice
-
ok guys lets be serious here about your l28et swaps!! how many of you guys seriously have a/c hooked up with your swap? im wondering b/c i'm thinking with intercooling pipes and an intake pipe running around the same location, there might be a problem with retaining factory a/c so if you guys have a/c i'm just wondering how you did it.. i've heard it can be done but i haven't seen any pictures with it actually hooked up.. there just seems to not be enough room in the stock location for both
-
^ditto sti's are front wheel biased and i think evo's might be also but i do know that they are a bit more balanced then the sti's the nissan awd system acts as a rwd car most of the time until it detects enough slippage to send power to the front wheels.. this setup would be pretty choice BUT the cost wouldn't be cheap.. i have seen an rb26 twin turbo 240z z on the site b4 but it was from japan and basically gutted.. either way if you can build it and or if you have a halfway decent mechanic it doesn't really matter what you have they should be able to work on it regardless..
-
umm it can be done and its not immpossible it would just cost alot of money and it probably can't be done on a budget (you have to realize many of us modify our cars on a budget) so if you have enough money and enough skill, you can do anything.. i would think that if you did it you would have to position everything in a way that your front halfshafts would line up with your front wheels and then prol either modify your existing rear end to accept it or frabricate something custom
-
yea i'm thinking about picking one up since i have a small exhaust leak comming from my downepipe anyways hopefully i can break my bolts loose without messing anything up..
-
so have any of you guys seen the new downpipe that MSA is selling? supposedly it used to sell for almost $300 but now they are selling it for just $99 anyways check it out and let me know what you guys think!! http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/PEC20/15-6037

DrEaM replied to TurkishSquirrel's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
there is a plug on the bottom of the transmission that looks like you could get a wrench in it, on the side of the transmission, there is a square shaped bolt that you could easily get to using an adjustable wrench but you might have to use some lube.. and DONT USE ROYAL PURPLE make sure you use oil that won't trash your trans.. -
kinda glad someone else on here has seen what kind of potential the good ol' l-series motors have.. the japanese are pretty good at squeezing horsepower out of anything
