and no i don't think "just because it looks cool, put it on my car" thats dumb to me.. thats where the term RICE comes from
-
yeah i think this whole mindset "its impossible or impractical" on a z thing is holding us back.. thats probably why noone has designed a decent front airdam that doesn't look like it was designed in the 80's.. think about it as popular as our old z's are has there been any really nice new parts to come out for our cars in the past ten years? yeah this year the engine damper did come back out and yes there are companies like technotoytuning paving the way for us classic car guys but it doesn't really seem like anyone it taking any of the new tech today and applying it to any of the old aero and body parts that have been out for YEARS.. maybe if we get away from the thought that something can't be done we can start figuring out what can be done with our cars.. and besides the exhaust and framerails i think that we could smooth the bottom of our cars out fairly well and for a decent price.. a big enough front splitter and a decent rear defuser i think would go a little ways in improving aero, especially coupled with a nice wing and some vortex generators..
-
i'm a fan of this car and i like it alot.. i think there where two of them but i'm not sure.. anyways what i'm wondering is why msa/xenon or whoever hasn't come up with a front bumper/spoiler that looks something like that for the s30/s130z's the spoilers they have are nice but to me they would have looked AWSOME in the late 80's early 90's... why can't someone design a CLEAN looking front bumper/spoiler for our cars.. i mean i'm pretty sure it would help with aero if designed properly

yeah i've seen the bottom of the lotus and i have to say that yes it is pretty much completely flat under there its amazing the way they did it b/c it looks like one big sheet of metal..BUT infiniti does have ZERO lift kits that they put on their cars,g35/37 m35/45 and i'm sure that neither of those cars are PERFECT on the underside either so i'm thinking with the right soilers and wings or whatever the old s30 could get pretty close to zero lift or at least minimize some of the lift i'm not too sure but i do know from pics and personal experiences with other zcar guys that it seems all we ever do is install the front spoilers just for looks and forget that it is designed for a purpose to guide the air/ or create downforce.. i'm not sure about the american manfactures but many japanese tuners actually windtunnel test their products b4 installing them.. i'm pretty sure with a front spoiler a splitter and a decent diffuser in the back it would make at least a little difference in how the car drives at speed

yeah i've been really unsure about the whole steering rack issue.. the main thing that i do see getting in the way of things is the a/c compressor. i know i could probly just frabricate a new compressor mount or go the whole vintage air route..
-
my bad if i couldn't find it but i did use the search function to try and find the steering issue but i guess i didn't use specific enough wording i guess i'll try and look again.................
-
are you using the 83zxt metal shifter section? i know for a fact that with the 70's z shifter it will fit BUT the angle of the 83 shifter wont work b/c it would just hit the console every time...
-
ok so as far as steering goes does anyone have any pics of what the specific issue is and since i also want a/c would it be pretty much impossible to keep it
-
so after you did a better search and talked to vintage air did you find anything new about a/c with the rb25/26? i really want to have a daily drivable reliable rb conversion but i'm not sure about the whole a/c situation
-
thats just complete awsomeness i think i'm going to stick with the 7.5 all around though instead
-
rotate it to the right and you'll see where he's going with it.... i
-
yea i meant with stock brakes and stock/a little lowered z.. i'm pretty sure with all those other variables you listed it would be a hastle trying to figure out what would fit on the s30... i'm just saying if i could find and post a basic list of known wheels and sizes that fit on an s30 that has little or no modification done to the suspension, that would give alot of people something to able to gauge off of.. it may not be perfect but it'll be close to what should be expected
-
yeah i think i'll be checking out how to add a better oil system.. that seems to be the only real argument against the toyota motor, besides the steering rod issue but so many people have done the swap b4, i don't see how thats as big of an issue as its made out to be
-
yeah my bad on the whole double post thing, i really wasn't trying to start any problems but i did search the forums about wheel sizes and offsets but i can never seem to find a clear answer on what will and wont fit under our stock fenders and what wheels actually work on our cars.. i think in the near future i'll be spending a few HOURS/DAYS searching this site for all the good info and trying to put it all in one thread... it seems like i get on this site sometimes and i'm just searching for 30-40 minutes b4 i ever find what i'm looking for.. its kinda frustrating but i understand that i need to search the forum more so i will my bad..

i know i'm going to have to modify alot to drop an rb in or whatever but i've had my mind set on an rb25 for the past year.. and now when there are engine and trans mount kits out it seems like the 2jz is starting to seem more and more like it would be the way to go but i'm still not sure price wise i'll prol be spending the same amount of money but performance wise i'm lookong for reliability and around 400whp MAX but who knows you can never have too much power, whether or not i'll be able to use it is another story
-
i've just now started wondering...... especially after seeing that supra powered z going against that ferrari 430 on autoblog.com a month ago and now on this site which engine swap is cheaper/easier to do? they sell the engine swap kits for the rb.. and suposedly it (supra motor) just drops in with little modification in the 240-280z so i'm wondering which is the better swap? i'm going to be posting this in both forums so i can hopefully get an unbiased opionion.. i'm looking for something i can drive daily and thats also cost effective
-
cool, all i have done suspension wise is tokico illumina shocks and springs so i guess you could say everything else is stock... i don't think i would need spacers i think if anything they would stick out even more with the spacers on.
-
the door seals will be like that for a month or two until they settle.. you gottah thing that your old ones were all worn out and smashed so these new ones need time and heat for them to be molded into shape or whatever
-
oh yeah a guy that i work with happens to have this EXACT engine swap and is making about 430whp with hit new motor but without any of the extra reinforcements i think.. but he ended up selling his old supercharged motor and spent $6000 on the whole swap.. he never gets traction though and when i asked him about the chasis reinforcements he told me it was reinforced from the factory because it is a convertible and thats why they are so heavy... "sure" they are reinforced, for safety but not for 2jz power on a car that has little torque to begin with from the factory.. anyways i don't think it'll last long
-
so would you say that this swap is easier done than an rb25 swap?

so i went to 18racing.com one of the only sites that i found really usefull for z specific wheel sizes in the wheel thread or whatever and i was wondering will these fit under the wheel well although they have a +04 offset.. i'm under the impression that the wider you go the more negative of an offset i would need with my bolt pattern but i'm not sure about if a +04 offset would prevent these wheels from fitting.. as of right now my car is sitting b/c my mag rims are all wobbled out and i don't feel safe driving them the way they are so anyways i'm jus wondering the wheels are 17x7.5 and they also have a set that are 17x8.5 with a +04 offset

ok that is awsome!! i was looking on ebay at some stick on vortex generators and i think i'll just stick with the individual stickys, but anyways about the evo mr vortex generators being the way they are.. they are designed with a little bit of angle in them, it might not look like it in pics but one of my friends has one and you can tell the diff.. the explaination that i got from him and from wintunnel pics i've seen on his style evo show that the airflow is actually "spoiled" just enough so that it actually hits the wing better therefore creating greater downforce
-
so correct me if i'm wrong BUT since the problem is around the hatch area wouldn't adding a vortex generator to "spoil" the airflow and then adding a wing around the back of the car solve most of this problem? i've seen this on someone's car here on hybridz but i can't seem to find the pic anywhere
-
i'm feelin this, i mean i've never really been a fan of the 2+2 but i think this would look really nice on a reg 2 seater and with a little bigger front spoiler on the front end
