  1. Updated install instructions...let me know if you see anything I missed. LSx LT header install instructions 4.12.pdf
  2. Rick did the mods to my right long tube ss LSx header a few weeks ago-post #322 here. So when do I get to see the z and where was / what group the auto-x yesterday? David
  3. Nice numbers-which shop did the dyno?
  4. Last or the middle - for the middle '2 mode' think; fast & faster!
  5. Removed the 'boss' - not real pretty but then no one will really ever see it [except all my friends on hybridz-but they won't divulge my secret...]. LS1 & LS2 starters side by side and boss before & after surgery-LS2 starter fits just fine now. Last item is to source proper connector.
  6. Update: picked up the special order LS2 starter from Autozone today [only place that had one other than dealer], cost ~$92 + core. Measured it before leaving the store-to ensure it is shorter. LS1 ~7 3/8", LS2 ~6 3/4" long-so it appears as though it will work fine. Will confirm once the header is back home again-was hoping it'd be here to day... Next: 2 steps back. needed to order a second 'long' starter bolt-dealer item, ~$5 + 1 week to get here small 'boss' on the side of the block which the LS1 starter is clearanced for but the LS2 is not-so the 'boss' needs to be removed need to convert from a ring terminal for the small starter wire [not sure what it's called] to a newer style pin terminal-still working on that one and open to ideas [did some searching and it appears to be a 'weather pack sealed electrical connection']
  7. Got decals to go with the tow hooks so IF [more like when] I'm off track next they'll know where to strap it on! Made specifically for our Z bumpers [searched all over and all were too large to fit on the 'skinny' z bumpers]. Rear Front
  8. The starter issue, from what I understand is that SUNNY Z had a non-oe starter on his 5.3 and was not aware of that. Apparently Blake did not not pick up on that fact and built the headers to fit a non-oe starter; good, bad or indifferent. It appears that we need a starter which is about 3/4" shorter than the stock LS1 model. I ordered an LS2 starter Saturday and hope once my header returns from his shop [it was returned to ensure it fit the jig correctly and fit his 'LSx' test block with stock starter as well & was told and sent images that the LS2 fits with plenty of room] that it does fit so I can continue with the install. My first track event is May 4-6th and may not make it. Still need to; install header, have exhaust from headers to aft of tranny built, align suspension & bed in new pads & rotors. I've lined up a rental track car for the weekend [more $] so it's not a total loss-plus, as an instructor, no track car is not a valid excuse for lack of attendance. Received a text about 5pm local saying my header departed on it's way home this morning!
  9. Just called Scoggin-Dicky parts-they have the LSx OE multi-layer gaskets in stock, $24.01 + shipping. Get this-using basic math [which I'm pretty good at ], 20 pair of gaskets at a discounted rate of $20/pair is $400 for the 'lot of us'...
  10. Funny thing is that it will fool most people. So do you go to a car show, park the Z, stealthily pop the hood and bolt on the stacks? Like falsies? Did you cut the hood? I think they're cool...
  11. Yes, there are 2 vendors I believe that have them available or you can find them on yahoo japan.
  12. All, this thread and process has been a long one. I've made some mistakes and learned along the way. Took much longer than I anticipated and we've had some hiccups and an item which is unresolved-gaskets. End result is beautifully crafted T304 stainless equal length long tubes that are unique to our LSx Z's. Unfortunately I do not have control over the process any more that you do and it has, at times, been frustrating. 1. Discovered the 'floor' difference between the 240z and 280z chassis which prompted me to 'adjust' my right side header [i do not hold the builder responsible for this one by any means as he is not a Z guy]. 2. We have no OE multi-layer manifold gaskets-yes, they are part of what we agreed to with the builder. I have [and others have too] asked repeatedly but without resolve. Personally I am re-using my OE gaskets with the hope the original agreement will be met. 3. My right header does not fit with my OE F-body 2001 starter installed. I have learned that SUNNY Z's engine had an aftermarket [slightly shorter] starter installed but was not aware of this nor did the builder notice. I know, by sight, the difference between a Z and ZX OE starter but not a GM. 4. I shipped my right header back to Blake to ensure it fit the original build jig [it does] and ask him for a solution. He stated that using an LS2 factory starter fits fine and sent me pics showing clearance. My header should be on it's way back to me shortly and I'll either modify the header [as JustAFantaZ did] to fit my LS1 OE starter or purchase the LS2 model [or what SUNNY Z has]-not sure which yet but am leaning toward header mod. Hindsight: have 2 Z's there-240z & 280z & ensure the 'mules' had stock LSx components and finally, understand that it always takes longer than it does...
  13. Do you have camber adjustment? I have the ZF racing lower control arms which allow me to adjust camber as well as 'push' the wheel out a bit further. At full lock I am nearly touching the frame rail but never touched the t/c rods. Perhaps this approach would work for you.
  14. Keith, the solution is simple-turn the wheels less and steer with your right foot-use the LSx force!
