  1. Make sure to check the fusible link wires in the engine bay too. EDIT: ehh, probably doesn't have anything to do with your issue but still a good idea to double check them.
  2. Wouldn't be the same Racer_X that used to frequent the paint & bodywork section a number of years ago? In any case, this site might help. http://www.300zx.cl/ga/300zx/images/serial%20number%20Datsun%20Z%20Car.htm If there were an equal number produced each month, it looks like your serial number would be between 4/77 and 5/77.
  3. The prices for Z's seems to have increased sharply in the last 5 or so years. That is a very good price imho if it is even moderately rust-free. Super clean too.
  4. I was browsing yahoo auctions today and came across this.http://https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/s507341856 Images rehosted here for when the listing is removed eventually. http://imgur.com/a/mWX8L
  5. For what it's worth, I regularly browse craigslist around the country under certain keywords. I bought my camera off craigslist in another state. Contacted, seller was willing to ship. Paypal sent and was shipped the next day. I wouldn't read too much into the fact someone not local is looking at your ad. But do be careful, the money order is probably a good option.
  6. Awesome little app that many here might enjoy. Can recognize race tracks, but also has the ability to map out your own favorite road. Some friends and I have been playing with it around some of the mountain roads here. I think the free version saves 3 'tracks'. Can record video or just stand alone live timing and G force data. I'd say it has a fairly good approximation of braking zones, not sure the rest of the G data is sensitive enough to tune anything specific. Still fun to look at. It also looks like you can integrate data such as external GPS receivers and OBD-II info. Track Addict for iOS & Android
  7. Maybe some bigger rear wheels too? Probably won't do a whole lot, but would add to the drivetrain loss I think?
  8. Start at 1:24 Mount the adapter to the engine while it's hanging on a hoist. Then slip the adapter into the stand, and secure the pin so the whole stand is hanging as well. Then just lower it all down and you're set.
  9. Try on his website, I'm assuming its available if listed. http://hokeperformance.squarespace.com/store/l-series-crank-angle-sensor-kit
  10. I don't have the cash, although I would be all over this if i did. But I am in Grand Forks, ND and would be happy to go check it out for someone if it's in the area.
  11. Is that hood latch something you modeled up yourself or purchased? I really like it! PM'd.
  12. Nice find! That z fits the style of the video perfectly.
  13. Would venting air at the firewall into the cabin have any effect? I'm just shooting from the hip here. I'm guessing there isn't enough of a pressure differential to evacuate any air effectively.
  14. A member on an aviation forum proposed that perhaps in the future, when this technology is further developed it might be used as an anti-ice coating on aircraft. Interesting idea anyway.
  15. I'm currently majoring in aviation at the University of North Dakota. They have a great training environment and program all together, but if I were to do it over, I would have gone the engineering route. So I am extremely excited to have secured a driving spot on this year's Formula SAE team. The car seems to be coming together pretty well. Built around a Honda CBR-600 engine/trans. Cirrus aircraft in town are working on custom molding a carbon fiber body. Some things yet to be sorted out, but it should be a great experience working with these guys. We will be at the Lincoln, NE competition in June. I know that several of the members here have worked extensively on these projects. Lets hear about some of your experiences and your cars!
  16. Another reason I miss the NorthWest
  17. I miss the Northwest. Not exactly a lot of car culture out here in North Dakota :/
  18. Thanks, I wish I could take credit for the fabrication. It was done by a shop called "classic collision" near my hometown. The coilover work was done by Northwest Rally Sports.
  19. Took this when I first had the car on the road, almost 5 years ago. Now its a stripped down shell again. Pretty boring video, but shows one of my favorite roads back home.
  20. Thanks! Yeah the project kind of tumbled down the rabbit's hole, but it should work out for the better in the end. The springs are part of the Megan coilover kit for the 240sx that I had adapted to the car. They are the 'street' series. Here is some info on the springs that come with the coilovers. SPRING RATES: F: 62mm ID; 180mm length; 8 kg/mm R: 62mm ID; 220mm length; 6 kg/mm I may swap the springs for a set made by Swift, as I'm told the ride is much more comfortable. But I'll have to wait until I drive on these first. The car certainly will no longer be a daily driver. Just a weekend toy, mostly set up for track day events or 'spiritied' mountain drives.
  21. Where I left the car in May was pretty much the extent of the work I was able to get done, before I moved to North Dakota to finish my studies at UND. Over the fall, the car went to a body shop to have some rust in the rear quarter panels fixed. The project took a bit of a turn when the shop engaged 'search-and-destroy' mode and completely stripped down the body. I delivered the car to them with a sandblasted front end and engine bay. They took it a step further by finding and fixing every ounce of rust possible, and sprayed something that looks like POR-15 (I need to clarify exactly what product was used) on the entire undercarriage and engine bay. I plan to paint the engine bay body color eventually. Hand made a replacement for the rear quarter panel area. At a friend's shop to have S13 coilover adapters installed.
  22. I thought this thread was lost! Awesome! Got together with some friends over the holidays and ended up under a parking garage. A little photo shoot then took place. My car is unfortunately absent as it is a stripped shell right now. DSC_0211 by canadianflyboy, on Flickr DSC_0162 by canadianflyboy, on Flickr gtr hdr 3 by canadianflyboy, on Flickr
  23. Those pictures are really encouraging, thank you! Awesome build on that car.
