  1. MrWOT: The EGR is removed and blocked physically on the intake. THe PCM has been reprogrammed (by me with TunerCat) to only activate EGR at 6750 RPM (it cannot be 'switch disabled' by TunerCat, so this is the next best thing. The original MAP sensor was faulty, so I switched it with one from a 4.3 LT1, and tested with Voltmeter and got good readings. (I assume that they are the same unit) Yes, it only seems to occur in 'stop and go' type driving. Cruising on the freeway appears good. No modifications were made to any of the fuel/spark/MAP tables. Tim
  2. Well, depending on the schedule for getting the car to the hospital (aka bodyshop), I will test the following as recommended by the FSM: TPS (although I doubt it as it would likely cause the problem all the time, even when cold) The Temp sensor....this one has always been in the back of my mind, but when running with FreeScan hooked up, the PCM is showing a temp reading very close to the gauge (seperate senders), so I'm thinking that one is OK. Jamie, I did not remove the IAC, but I pretty much soaked the whole unit. It's easy enough to remove again, so I may do that. I'm still 'convinced' that a couple of the injectors may be bad, considering the history (97k+ miles on them, plus I had to 'tap' them free on initial startup). I might pull off the fuel rail/injectors, and swap it out with the Z28 and see if I get the same problems with the Camaro.... Tim
  3. Tell ya what, Terry....if YOU come out, I will bring the car, regardless of condition......
  4. You could always run larger ID brake lines to the rear...... Tim
  5. Rough estimate so far is ~$2800.00 So far the insurance co. has not given me any problems, except not calling back in a reasonable amount of time..... Tim
  6. It's off to the bodyshop. My neighbor, who has helped with bodywork advise all through the project, is an estimator (and accomplished body guy) at a very reputable bodyshop, so its going there. If I did not have that contact, then I would do it myself, but I trust him and his crew. They'll probably do a better job than I did anyways, or at least definitely quicker than I could. He is going to have them work Saturdays to try get it done in time, but I am not holding my breath...... Tim
  7. Yup, I remember the TV stations having an epilogue at 12am, then it was test pattern until 7 am. I remember when BetaMax was the dope! I remember when we got our first Atari video game console. That was Dope too!! I remember milk deliveries, and putting little plastic coupon 'coins' in the bottle....green ones for milk and red ones for cream. I remember fighting to be the first one to get the milk in the morning to be the one to get cream which has risen and settled to the top. I remember fearing the wrath of an angry parent, and respecting their discipline. I remember having to go the Principal's office and getting 'six of the best' with his 'custom butt swatter' I remember riding my bike to the mall at eight years old, 10 miles away just to play pac-man, and asteroids...cause those games were just dope!!, and the thought of being abducted, raped, killed etc was never even in our psyche.. I remember intermission in teh middle of a movie in the theatre...5 minutes for potty break and more popcorn (which you didn't have to take out a low interest loan to buy). I remember cartoons &/or 3 Stooges 'shorts' before the main feature... I remember using solvent or gasoline to clean out a wound when working in the garage, then using an old rag as a bandage, then kept on working....how are we all still alive. I remember using pure benzene to clean parts, no gloves or 'fresh air' breathing equipment.... Ahhh the good old days....
  8. I just had the intake off and the TB off the intake. I cleaned it extensively with TB cleaner (aerosol), so I don't think that's it. It was pretty dirty though, but more just dirt than carbon. I also double and tripple checked all the possible areas for vacuum leaks. I think the injectors are just old and are 'breaking' down when the coils get warm...... Tim
  9. Jamie, I'm running MSD 8.5mm wires and new plugs (Champion). I have TunerCat, so PCM access is not an issue. Tim
  10. Well, while I agree with you on the increases injector size,...if I'm going to buy new injectors, I might as well go slightly larger to keep up with future upgrades. The fact that it starts when the injectors are warm, I'm thinking that one or more of them are increase the resistance in their coils, since they are old and have sat for so long. What does make me curious is that it clears up AS SOON as the gearbox is popped into neutral. As soon as it goes back into first (or second) it stumbles again...just like it's dropped a couple of cylinders. I checked the resistance through all the injectors with an ohm meter and get mainly 12.2, but 12.0 and 12.1 on others. This seems ok, butr then again it's with the injectors cold and unplugged with no current flowing through them..... I'm at a loss..... I check the current of the TPS and compare to the FSM and check the resistance on the engine temp sender. Tim
  11. Pete, I am using the Stock 240 booster with the 15/16th ZX master with Wilwoods up front and ZX calipers in the rear and the pedal feel is perfect. Tim
  12. Thanks for all the support guys, but after all the effort I put into this car, there is NO WAY I'm gonna show it at an event like MSA WCNs in its current condition....it would just hurt my heart too much.....after all that tail panel is the 'centerpiece' for the bodymods.... Oh, and Pete, I wouldn't spend $$ on one of those dolls....cheaper just to tell my 4 year old he can't go and buy his favorite Rescue Hero Character.....he'll stand there and sulk for the afternoon Tim
  13. Pete, Have you tried adjusting the pushrod at the pedal (make it longer)?
  14. I have tested my pressure (34lbs at idle), and have also tested the pressure on the Z28 and have the same pressure. Pulling the vacuum line off the regulator, it jumps up to 45lbs, so I think the pressure is ok. The more I think aboput it, the more I think that some of the injectors are bad.... Tim
  15. Here's the thing. I have replaced just about every component of the ignition system on the LT1 in the Z, so I can only now summize that the problem is with the injectors (off idle stumbling when warm). So here is the question: What is the likelyhood that one or more of the injectors are mechanically damaged/worn out as opposed to being maybe just 'dirty'? When I first fired the engine after the conversion, a few (maybe 3) of the injectors weren't firing, but a couple of taps on teh injectors with a wrench freed them up. Do I take the injectors in to get tested/cleaned etc, or should I rather put that $$ towards a set of brand new injectors. What I concerned about is that if/when I get the injectors tested, I will need to replace some of them (in which case I would replace all of them). Or is it more likely that the injectors are just gummed up, not worn out, in which case the less expensive alternative would be to just clean them. And.....if I do replace the injectors, which ones are recommended? How about the Accell injectors, 30lb/hr: Tim
  16. Thanks for all the sympathy Guys!! You guys are the greatest!! Just like one big happy family! BTW...I'm on my 5th Captains and coke, so I'm really not worried about much right about now
  17. 10% chance before MSA....as long as my insurance Co. doesn't mess me around....God Almight help them if they do!!!!
  18. Although I'm absolutely furious, and fit to be tied (boy I hope a telemarketer calls tonight ), it is only a car (although I've put my lifeblood in it), and it can be fixed, and I did get absolutely full insurance on it, and I have already talked to my neighbor (who is an estimator at a bodyshop) about getting it fixed, I am disappointed that it won't be done for the Show. Could have been wayyyy worse!!! If I had decided to use the Z28 instead of the ZX-7, it would have run all the way down the driveway into the electric pole, or into the neighbour's living room) and then it would have likely been too far gone to fix. Oh well....these 'bumps' in life are supposed to build character, right?.... man I'm pissed...I'm gonna have a Captain's and coke, or as we say in the 'Old Country'...Spook and Diesel... Tim
  19. Nope...I've taken off all the EGR stuff and the air pump. Plus there are no evap. controls on the fuel cell. Tim
  20. I'l have some in a minute. I'm glad I got full comprehensive insurance on this damn thing!!!!!!!
