Thanks I'll put that to Cams and see what they say. As you say the numbers of them around leave no question that there were enough sold but I suppose the guys from cams need the paperwork to add up just like any other big department. Thanks Col (Looks like I'm getting pretty close)

I have read the cam posts and now I am more confused than before. A lot has been said about the duration and the need to have figures at 50" lift to even get an idea on the specific cam. Problem is my cam spec is at 75 ". My cam is a crow 58640 in 40-76 ex 77-41 dur in 296 , ex 298 .75 dur in 214, ex 216 LC in 108, ex 108 lift in 485 ex 495 power range 2200 to 6200 rpm mild cam stock or near stock engine. I have just bought this car ,he has recipts for an engine rebuild and SU rebuild and calibration. The thing is , Driven gently it drives ok smooth etc. But if you put the car in second early say 1500 rpm and floor the car it will smoothly pull but not much power all the way to between 4500 and 5000 rpm after which it pulls really hard to 7000 and that is where I stop reving it. My question is do you think the cam is timed wrong as It should pull much earlier and run out at 6200 rpm? Thanks Col

I have been reading a heap of threads that referred to porting SU's, but have not been able to find any posts on how its done. Is it able to be done by hand , or are they referring to increasing the actual bore and adding bigger buterflys? Thanks Col

Hi xenonxiii. Yes I did look through your site and It's great with a heap of info. The download for the manual should be fine but I just wanted to check out the other manual just in case they had any different info. I should have thanked people personally rather than just "Thanks Guys", but please believe I do appreciate all your help. I am still unable to find sales numbers for the 280zxt. I know there were a heap sold and even if only one percent of the 280zx sold were turbo there would have been enough sold. Still Cams wants info on the sales of the 280zxt specifically , so if anyone can help it would be great. Thanks Col

There is a manual supposedly available on caffiche.com but it's listed as temporary unavailable,But i'll keep checking. Thanks Col

Hi again Gollum,I have a problem with the info on the site you sent. Although the info was great it did not single out sales of thr 280zxt as they did for the zxr. Cams wants me to prove how many 280zxt were produced and I have been told I need something exactly as you sent me , but with specific to the 280zxt. It would be great if you have any specific info, or do the 280zxt just get thrown in with the NA versions, if so I still have a problem proving the number of zxt sold. Thanks Col

Thanks Guys I'll try and get the info from the web as long as it lets me download the lot. I will also check with cams as they may accept just giving them the site. You have all been very helpful and I hope this will be enough for them, or (I"LL BE BACK) asking for more help. Arnie joke.ha ha Thanks Col

Hi I'm from Australia, Im trying to get the 280zxt homologated over here in Aus for PRC Rally. I need info on how many 280zxt were sold, and over what years. I also need info on the full specifications of the car, something like a link to a site that has the nissan factory manual would be great, as they (cams Australia) asked that I supply a factory manual for the 280zxt and I don't have one. Any info is appreciated. Thanks Col

Im not saying MS1 or MS2 is better .I'm saying, I'm no computer person so I dont know how much difference the extra speed of MS2 makes in a real life situation. I was under the impression, the 3 times faster thinking speed would help smoothing and reacting faster to input. But if the people that use MS most ,and comunicate with each other ,say in real life this makes little or no diference .I have to believe them, unless I am willing to test back to back myself.
-
Thanks for the info. So you concider even for things like knock sensing retard, the MS1 is just as Quick.I'm not a computer person so I dont understand how.Not that I say your wrong, I just dont understand how. Could you please try yo explain so as a computer dummy can understand.

When you are talking about building a car, $100.00 odd on managment is more of an investment isnt it. Do you concider that the quicker speed memory gives advantages in smoothness etc. Or say for example ,you run knock sensing retard .Would doing the math 3 times faster not be a great advantage, reading and responding to the input quicker. I just think that if MS2 gets the kind of support MS1 gets it could be hugely better than MS1, with that processing speed.
-
Thanks guys I have been reading a lot of MS threads and it seems to me that most people would rather the MS1 not the MS2.I was wondering why when the MS2 has 3 times the processing speed, surely if it gets the backing of more experienced users it has the potential to be a better ecu than MS1.

I'm trying to decide between ms1v3 and ms2v3. As I understand it I need the ms2v3 to have coil per plug ,and then I only need 1 crank sensor. Or can you only do this with eMS pro spectre version, this kit only comes built for $795.00. Thanks

By your own definition in the attached thread, detonation always occures after ignition.Peak pressure then rising too fast, peaking before TDC,ping.Thinking of the crank as a clock most leverage is at 3 o clock which would give the best mechanical advantage but its not quite so simple as the cylinder volume is also increasing as piston goes down, mechanicly reducing pressure. So the so called best bet, places PCP at 14deg after TDC.Again i recomend water injection because {as your thread says}fuel load should combust completly ,in a controled burn .Not an explosion. The link has some very interesting info on fast burn chambers that i had not herd of. Thanks Col
-
Maby I have the rong end of the stick, but my understanding of ping or detonation had to do with the timing.as such the fuel does not self combust, just burns quicker after detonation from spark, the ping noise is the cylinder reaching peak pressure before top dead center.Hence the use of water injection to slow this combustion.

Hi just a sugestion for those of us that think fumes are coming from the hatch. To make 100% sure it was or was not a hatch leak I ran tape all round the hatch gap and go for a run. I did and the fumes are gone.looks like new seal and adjustment for me.Just a question for the airflow experts,How big would a spoiler have to be up on the roof in front of the hatch to detach the air from the lid minimising lift and reducing the fume problem?

Hi Im a zxer as well from Australia .Ive also thought of removing the back windows [we have the long pointed ones not like i see in the US with narrower cut off backs ] If i smooth the window area check out the look and maby do a small triangular scoop or gills like mustangs have.So I would apreciate any pictures you have .Thanks Col

Hi Im from QLD im also concidering the same options for my everyday driver and possibly a project car with manual 4L lexus v8 maby we could get together sometime col

prOxalmus you have got me thinking and im not sure if i fully understand your pulse diagrams if i understand corectly, I dont understand why any engine is odd fire. Ive heard v8's with crosovers(or what you call 180 deg headers) in my opinion these pipes give a higher reving more exotic sound.I would imagine an engine with an even fire engine with flat crank or 180 deg headers could then be compared to a 4 cyl doing twice the revs.this would explian the more exotic sound please correct me if im wrong. col (what benifit does an odd fire have)

Thanks for info on flat 4 col

In QLD there are engineers who have certification to approve changes to registered vehicals. If you change a car at all even seats you need a complience plate attached to your car.Their are engine capacity limits that a certified mechanic can approve and then above that a certified engineer has to do it.A mechanic is not automaticly able to do the first stage of inspection he has to be sit a test to be able to aprove even these minor modifications. col

the angle of seperation between the cylinders seem to make a huge diference to sound as well.A flat 4 like suburu has a much deeper note than a straight 4 . I understand that timing of the pulse is diferent but why the deeper note?
-
Can anyone give a straight up comparison of exhaust note with diferent systems eg;balance pipes, pipe diameter, muffler types/baffeled/h-dog/glass filled, front or rear muffler.anything but without any other changes to engine. In Australia the cheapest(under $1000.00)option for that sound your looking for is the lexus 4L v8 not a huge capacity but a great engine. Im thinking of using one, the main drawback is converting to manual box is expensive. col

Awesome drawings, how much time did it take to draw.Ive thought of using cad drawing to think out loud.seeing on paper is better than seeing in your head.could you draw it and the intake together? col
