I used rattle can Truck Bed Liner on my '77 2+2, and it actually came out halfway decent. It's definitely not perfect, but I like it. Came out like a rougher than normal Flat Black that's also durable. That Integra looks terrible. It all depends on what kind you use and how thick it is. I like how it came out on my car at the very least. I suppose you guys can judge for yourselves:

That's very true... My first 240 didnt come with keys. A carb'd 240 can easily be stolen without keys and without damaging anything a few different ways, from inside the car, and from under the hood. A fuel injected 280 is a little harder to steal from under the hood without keys, but just as easily from inside the car. Infact, the easiest way, once you're actually inside the car, only requires a philips head screw driver and about a minute. Any car can be stolen if somebody wants it bad enough. Cut off switches, alarms, and parking in a high traffic area definitely will deter or slow down most people. To be honest, the easiest way, is to roll up in a tow truck, and just drag it up the ramp. Not to mention, most people wouldnt think twice about an alarm or anything like that if a vehicle looks like it is being legitimately towed.

240z Rear Bumper Differences
Austin240Z replied to ~KnuckleDuster~'s topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Looks to me like one of those is for the front bumper and one is for the rear. The pointier one on the left should be for the front as I remember. -

Repair estimate - Auto Transporter nightmare
Austin240Z replied to mchong75's topic in Body Kits & Paint
I feel your pain man. Sorry to hear about the damage. I have a second job with a guy who buys and exports classic cars, and we have a lot of cars shipped to us and then shipped down to Houston, and I know how much of a nightmare that can be when something goes wrong. I do have a spare Hatch/Glass from a 72 240 in my garage here in Austin if you need it. It's just collecting dust and I have no use for it. It would need to be repainted but your more than welcome to it. Coincidentally, sometime between the 5th and 15th of November (dont remember the exact date.) I happen to remember seeing a Silver 240Z, on one of the large transportation trucks roll through a Walmart off of I35 here in Austin. The car was definately a 240Z though, and a nice one at that, but I thought it was a very interesting coincidence that I happened to see it around the same time yours was being transported, and not to far away from where you live. Once again man, sorry to hear about the damage. Good Luck to you. -
Nissan's 1998 240z restoration program
Austin240Z replied to xShodaimex's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
It had a remanufactured engine. An engine remanufaturing company, such as Spartan Engines for instace, usually will tag their motors with a "Reman" sticker and an ID number. It's doubtful you'd see one of the Nissan Restored 240's in a junkyard unless it had been in a serious wreck. Also, a Nissan Restored 240 would not have a "Remanufactured" sticker on the block. The only tags I remember seeing on them was a Gold Plate on the Center console below the Radio that read's something to the effect of "197X 240Z, Restored by Nissan, 1998" and then a few other things. I dont remember the exact wording but it was something along those lines. If memory serves, the new owner was also given a signed certificate of Restoration with the Vehicles VIN, Similar to what owners of Nismo 350Z and 370Z's receive with their cars. *EDIT* PLEASE also be aware that there is a difference between the 1998 Nissan Restoration Project, and the 1998-2000 Dealer restorations. Because of the Nissan restoration project, there were some dealers who did some independent restorations on 240Z's to try to cash in since the number of official cars was to be limited. They were NOT official Nissan Restored cars, and are NOT worth the amount that the official cars are. They usually do not have any documentation, and with out documentation, they do not hold ANY extra value over a regular 240Z. I Recently saw one for sale in Dallas that was a 1998 Dealer restoration, but not an official Nissan Restoration, so be careful as they do pop up on Craigslist and eBay from time to time. -
I dont imagine you did a wet compression test in addition to the dry compression test by any chance? Having too much gap between the rocker arm and the cam would not cause low compression, just valve chatter. If there it is adjusted too tightly, the cam pushing down mildly on the rocker arm all the time, it could cause a compression leak due to the valve being slightly open all the time.... but that is unlikely. I would have to imagine your rings are worn out, or what was mentioned before, a possible head gasket leak. Do a wet compression test (squirt one or two drops of oil in the cylinder) and see what numbers you get.

Where abouts in Texas, there are a few good ones, but having a general area or city would narrow it down quite a bit. Texas is a big place.

Post a picture of your car and paint code
Austin240Z replied to 280z4me2's topic in Body Kits & Paint
My car origianlly The Factory #411 ZZZap special edition paint code, but some fool repainted it a duller yellow:bonk: I'm normally not a big fan of yellow, but The 411 Sunburst yellow is a wonderful bright color. Here's How the 411 Sunburst Yellow is supposed to look(Not my car): And then here's the Slightly duller yellow the Previous owner painted it: ^It's a little bit more pale and dull than the original 411. I'm having it painted back to the factory color, stripes and all in the next few months. -
Time to confess. How many s30's do you own?
Austin240Z replied to jasper's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
I currently own three Z's two are S30's '72 240Z '77 ZZZap SAP 280Z The ZZZap was repainted once unfortunately, so it's a slightly different yellow and is missing the stripes. I didnt even know it was a ZZZap until a week after I got it, I managed to stumble across the #411 Paint code in the mantinance book. Having it repainted to Factory original 411 Sunburst yellow, and the stripes will also be painted on at that time. My 3rd Z is my DD, a '93 300ZX Convertible. -
yeah, now they shut the entire city down any time there's a decent freeze. People cant drive in this town...

I have the same pictures, also picked them up in may. I'm uploading them right now

good to hear it's running man

Got some sleet/snow mix in Austin last night. Cut my quality time with the 'ol wiring harness short. Supposed to freeze/sleet/snow again tonight. For you non Texan's... We dont see ice much. Usually when we get a decent freeze they have to shut the whole blasted city down because none of the people in Austin know how to drive on ice. Or at all.

Biggest question is this... Did you sync the carbs yet? That could very well be your problem. Btw speaking from experience... when you put the new valves in, did they move up and down easily by hand? And when you lapped them, how did they look, everything look lined up correctly? The reason I ask is this.... I snapped a cam a few motors back, bent 7 of the valves, one of those valves actually damaged one of the valve guides, I noticed before putting the engine all together, it was off center and had a tendency to stick... That could cause all sorts of problems. I'm hoping you checked them all before you put her all back together.

Here's an old Arcade Cabinet: Also, there was a car that was extremely similar to a 280Z in the Scarface Video Game

Where did you get them?

Nissan 240z Extreme Dimensions Front Bumper Kit
Austin240Z replied to Challenger's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Says 240sx on the ad now -
OH... flat tops... ouch. Most people throw those away, or if they keep them.. they're used as door stops or paper weights. Could be that the float is stuck at the TOP now and is not allowing much gas into the bowls. Getting stuck at the bottom would have caused your earlier gas going everywhere problem. If it got stuck once, it could have easily happened again. Unless you're trying to keep it all original and 100% stock, I wouldn't bother. The flat tops are in a word, terrible. You will get much better performance out of the 240Z round top SU's. If I didn't need some of the parts off my spare set still, I would have offered you mine.
-
True, it's easy to take off. I had a stuck float on the rear carb when I first got my 240, a quick light tap on the top of the bowl fixed that. I didnt even have to take the top of the bowl off.

Ouch, according to that they're going to market it as the new version of the Scion TC? That hurts.... I pray that's not the case. I always considered the Scions as Toyota's attempt to build a Honda, to drag in more of the Big Wing and Fart Pipe Civic crowd. (No offense at those who have actually BUILT a Honda, rather than just put stickers on it) I used to own a few Toyota's, including an 86, but shortly after Scion came about and I could no longer see any real powerful RWD cars in their future, I said "I'm out" and shifted my focus to Nissan. I used to own ONLY Toyotas, now all I own are Z's. If it does come out as a Scion, I'm gonna have a hard time taking it seriously. But if Subaru is teaming up then I suppose we'll see... Dont get me wrong, I hope it turns out to be a badass car, but putting "SCION" emblems on it is probably going to leave a bad taste in my mouth. And to make it clear, I'm not saying that Scions are bad cars, they are decent, but I didnt like the way that Toyota went about marketing them. They always seemed like they were trying to make people feel like, if they bought the FACTORY "AFTERMARKET" parts they were going to be original, when the guy down the street who also bought a Scion, probably got the same "aftermarket" parts Scion offered. Ok rant is done. Sorry about that, but the whole Toyota/Scion thing always rubbed me wrong.

Which head are you using?

I know it's been a while, but I finally got a camera and took some pictures. It's pretty dirty by my standards, and I havent run it yet.
