I'm surprised you know about that. Hardly anyone does. How did you find out? To be honest with you, to my knowledge the car was never a Police car, it was simply in the impound for so long that ownership was transfered to the police department and then it was sold at auction. Though I like the fact that my title has APD as the original owner.

OMFG, that was seriously awesome. Always glad to see a scammer get taken down! (I'm actually reading through all 84 pages)
-
I had the locking louvers too, but the mounts and locks were very broken and the louver was actually inside the car. The mounts were broken beyond repair. Threw the louvers away.

The ebay thing is a scam from what I've heard. The guys who have subbed 7-11 have not finished 12 yet.

How easy is it to drop the fuel tank w/o assistance?
Austin240Z replied to PanzerAce's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Does yours have the drain plug? My 72 did, made it reeeeal easy once the tank was empty. Put a jack under it, undo all the lines you see. Drop it a little ways, and then get the lines on top of the tank. Then let her down. Should be as easy as that. -
Are you sure you dont mean 11? 11 was just finished a few days ago, 12 is still in the works

A friend of mine has similar ones on his 510, said he got them on Ebay. He also told me that some old dude came up to him at some point recently and mentioned something about them being old triumph mirrors.

I'll promise you it is. I have valve shaped impact marks on 4 of 6 pistons to prove it. Luckily, the valves dont come down into the cylinder too far, so it doesnt pose a huge problem unless your cam stops moving and your crank doesnt (That's what happened to me). What your mechanic said is somewhat true, valve float will de-power an engine so it wont rev off into infinity, but it will cause a hell of a lot of un-needed stress on your engine. It's really not something you want to happen. Not to mention that unless you've had your crank balanced, it's gonna probably want to go off in about a dozen different directions once you get up to a high enough RPM, causing a lot of stress on your bottom end as well. Back to the valve float and it being a BAD thing. You should look at it this way. When you have valve float, the valve stays open, but your cam and rocker arm are still moving. Why is it bad? because excessive space is being created between either the valve and rocker arm, the rocker arm and cam, or both. This is going to put a lot of undue wear and stress on these parts shortening their lifespan and possibly causing failure. The best way to think of it is picturing a hammer... If you take a hammer and try to drive a nail into a board, if you try to swing it less than an inch from the nail it is not going to get you much force on the nail, so instead you swing the hammer a few feet to get more force on that nail. When it comes to the spacing between the cam, rocker arm, and valve, there is only a certain amount of space that you want to have. Any less will cause too much friction, and too much spacing will cause too much wear from impact force. The best way I can put it is, when you rev it up that high and create valve float, it's like taking a hammer to the your valve train for no reason. *Edit* Not my best explanation ever, but I havent slept in over 48 hours, so that's the best you're gonna get for now *Edit*

I second that, valve float is BAAAAD, if you've ever bent a valve (I'm at 7) it's not something that makes you happy.

I put an MSD 6AL on my Z and had the redline at 7K. My Z had a stock cam and SU's, power died off before it hit 7, so there's no point in revving it up any higher.

72 240z shut off on me while driving
Austin240Z replied to vqpwrd240's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
no, does not have fuseable links. I was thinking alternator at first, but since it is cranking and not firing it shouldnt be an alt problem. If that were the case it probably wouldnt crank at all or you would hear the classic tired starter sound. SInce you said their was a fuel smell and it is cranking but not firing, I'd lean toward a fuel problem. -
man.... why's you have to post that.... Looking at that picture makes me feel like someone shot my dog.

71 240z I'm Considering...
Austin240Z replied to JustinOlson's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
hmmm... I wonder what head is on there... all the L28 heads I have, the mech fuel pump hole... isnt actually a hole.... and considering the mech pump is attached, I have a feeling the head isnt from an L28... Make sure it says L28 on the block. otherwise it looks pretty decent, I'd pay 850 for it -
It is

where'd you get that photo? Cant tell if it's photoshopped, but it kinda looks like it is

I think you meant 432. For those of you who dont know what 432 stands for, it stands for 4 Valves 3 carbs and 2 cams. I love my Nissan books btw, I just picked up an E31 head

I also have the same ones, plus a similar set of deep dish 14's that you cant find tires for (currently running 235/60/14) both from western wheel I got the first set with the car, and the second set I basically got for free. I traded them even for a set of worn out zx six spoke's which I had gotten for free. both my sets are nice... the ones that closest resemble the ones he's selling are the ones I got with the car, and I consider those my trashy backup set. His look about like mine do... good shape... but not worth $375 for a set, much less the $375 PER WHEEL that guy is asking. $100-125 tops
