  1. Standard production 4 bbl, 4-bolt 350, as used in mid-70's Chevrolet pickups.
  2. Corvette- based- kit is Bigger than a real Ferrari Daytona too. The 280ZX-based Daytona kits (Velo Rossa used to sell - maybe John does again?) are closer to the actual wheelbase and width of the originals.
  3. Back to the original post - Are you really planning to do a 2-story building with cars on both levels? Set into a hillside...retaining walls....earth-sheltered? awesome. I envision some Serious engineering, maybe precast concrete panels for the upper floor. Tricky job to pour a slab 12 feet in the air. Unless one has a kind uncle in the parking deck or high rise condo construction business.
  4. I had once heard about these adaptors in the Ford HiPo parts book, finally found a photo. I'd really like to put a 3 deuce 289 intake on a 351W block and heads here's how: They also cast the "CLEVOR" intakes for putting 351C and Boss 302 heads on a 351W block. http://www.pricemotorsport.com/index.html
  5. Yes please do. Need to be inspired once in a while
  6. I can only think of one full-frame production vehicle more modern than a Z (is that the goal?), and that is the Corvette. Maybe a pickup truck (pick your brand). Saw a Cobra kit car body once built on a shortened '70's Ford Courier frame. No, it wasn't a monster truck, it was lowered like a sports car.
  7. I converted the 43 .GIFs (on twinturbo) to one .pdf file. This version is only 1 Meg, anyone have a ftp site that can serve it? HybridZ have a download area? I only have dial-up so I can't offer to mail it to everyone.
  8. The model on the body tag has "KHLZ31XUGY"
  9. Just read this. "Tom Nalle designed and built a conversion kit to transform Datsun 240Z sports cars into a quasi-replica of the Cobra Daytona Coupe. The kit consisted of a set of fiberglass panels that were attached to the Datsun body. Datsun running gear could be used, or an engine swap was available to fit a Ford 302 under the hood. Nalle was located in Richmond, Virginia." Harold W. Pace- The Big Guide to Kit and Specialty Cars, page 151 Chapter 4 - The Eighties - Send in the Clones Other than Jamie's brother's contact, this was the first I had heard of this kit. I've seen one parked in front of the Weyerhauser paperboard box plant in Richmond, VA (about 10 yrs ago) that may have been a Nalle car.
  10. It gets worse.... I did some more searching at Z31.com. a FAQ about swapping in Maxima parts says the cool thing about a Maxima 3.0L is the getting valve covers in red. Guess what color my valve covers are? Red! This engine overheats but only when it is pulling a load. It will run normal temps idling in the driveway, but take it out on the road, with the turbo pumping (you! clap!) up, it bubbles and boils up thru the overflow bottle. And now out the dash vents. I knew this when i bought it, but was hoping a new thermostat, hoses, belts, and radiator flush would fix it. I am going to pull the spark plugs to get an idea of what's going on in the combustion chambers. Leaky heater core? Head gaskets maybe? I bought a gasket set, but won't invest much more than a top-end freshening in this engine. Priced a rebuilt VG 3L turbo a few day$ ago. $2,700. yikes. She is starting to look more like a Hybrid 5.0 V8 swap candidate now. Uncharted ( or frozen ) waters - full steam ahead! Those 5-bolt wheels still baffle me. Since this wasn't a turbo car originally, shouldn't an '84 have 4-bolt wheels? It has the small turbo scoop on the hood, but the hole in the hood sheet metal was obviously cut post-factory. Well I still like it, Trevor '84 300ZX, loaded (w/potential)
  11. Bumper sticker seen on Mrs. Clinton's Presidential Limo: "Air Bag Equipped"
  12. I'd like to see pics. Do you have MS photo editor? It can re-size jpg files.
  13. http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Street/5770/aron.html This is more of a rambling narrative, than a tech article. I'm researching potential swaps for my '84 (her engine is bad). Any new updates from the Chevy (305 and a T5) swappers project?
  14. Iz that a Honduh tailpipe in photo #2?
  15. Lads, This sounds like the BMW-from-Florida story. I bought a '84 300ZX, thinking it was a 50thAE, but.... it doesn't have the right interior (blue velour, not black leather) it doesn't have 16" wheels, it has 15" 5-bolt it wasn't the right color originally (blue, not silver) So I think, "that's OK, " just a nice looking ZXT (with 50th AE badges) It does have the turbo engine, 5-bolt wheels, flares, adjustable suspension... all stock factory? Maybe not!! 'Cause then I look on the Z31 board's VIN decoder chart and it says: the NA engine has "H" in the VIN, the Turbo has "C" ....my VIN is JN1H.... Guess I got a HybridZ! and didn't know. I'm starting to suspect those t-tops now - better see if they really come out or are just glued-on facsimiles
  16. Just driving it as-is for now.
  17. Not HybridZ material - but still a Z(X) I bought my (no jokes now) brother-in-law's '84 300ZXT - 50th anni, he only had it a week and decided it wasn't right for him when it cost him a few$$ to pass the state inspection, so I did him a favor and bought it The talking lady still works, the built-in security system works, most of the digital dash works except the but the gas gage doesn't light up. 4 new Michelins. Adjustable suspension - there is a knob on the console and hoses going into the tops of each strut!?!. Pretty good shape actually for a 20-year-old car. The glasspack muffler has got to go, though. Too loud when the T-Tops are open. It is metallic blue - recently re-painted, all stock 2-tone blue velour interior. The radio is new/replaced with a Clarion CD.
  18. I haven't done the swap, but I was at the junkyard yesterday and took a visual survey so here is my WAG... '84 - '89 Turbo '86 - '89 NA 300ZX
  19. Yep know what ya mean about them GTOs. Ferrari could only sell 39, so he gave up building them. It must have been marketing failure. And then who would drive one? Some poor guy like Tony Wang or a drum player from some unknown band.... what was that name....hmmmm? Floyd Pink? or something like that
  20. Terry / BlueOvalZ has used Supra calipers on a shallow rotor. Your solution would work for a 1-piston caliper with the bulk of material inboard from the rotor centerline. However, it seems that the calipers which offer a performance upgrade (Toyota 4Runner, Wilwood...) are the 4-piston type with material on both sides of the rotor. Moving one of these calipers "out" would probably interfere with the back side of the wheel.
  21. Also.... interesting that there is only 1.... on the driver's side fender.
  22. At the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, VA there is a showing of 12 Ferrari automobiles called "la bella machina - The Art of Ferrari" . The exhibit closes this weekend (7/20) so I drove down today. Here is a 250 GTO - Schwing! The also have pure race cars - a '32 Alfa, '52 Indy, '91 F1 cars, and Road cars - 275GTB NART Spyder looking very much like it inspired the Z-car. All the owner's data was listed as "Private Collection" and most of the registrations were for New York. I don't know if this is a one-time show or a travelling exhibit or - so watch for news at your local art museum.
  23. Balancing is another machine Let me see .... HF does sell a dynamic one for about $900. I paid $30-$35 for the changer about 5 yrs ago.
