  1. There was a build-up article in Kit Car magazine (might have been Kit Car Illustrated magazine) on the Origin Z Car convertible Kit. The article describes using the lower layer of steel as a guide for cutting the top layer. From underneath the roof (with the headliner removed), use a punch or pick to dimple through the outer skin along the edge of the lower layer. Of course this was cut to fit a pre-fabbed fiberglass header cover, if you are planning to finish the header in steel, like Scott Bruning's Z Therapy design, then you might stick with an external measurement, uniform from the edge of the glass. You could use a 2,3, or 4 rows of 1" masking tape, for example to create a nice stright line to follow as you cut. Good luck

  3. eBAY! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33601&item=2437365263 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2436214579&category=33601&rd=1 The "real" stuff is airplane hose with braided stainless covering bonded to the hose and aluminum AN fittings. Earl's and Aeroquip make it, Jegs and Summit are re-sellers. Mr. Gasket and Spectre make (or should I say re-package) the "cover only" which is probably not stainless steel. I think it it tinned copper wire because it does turn grey and loses its shine after a few miles under the hood. I think this stuff is actually electrical wiring sheild as is found in Coaxial cables (cable TV). It could also be the stuff they make ground straps (from the car frame to the engine block) out of. You can find it at most auto parts chains in the Fast-Furious-Chrome-simulated-Carbon- Fiber-Pedals-cover section. It does dress up the hoses, but don't know about putting it on the spark plug wires. I always thought that a 25KV conductor should be on the INSIDE of the insulation. Then again, if you want to put on a light show .....
  4. I didn't see Datsun 240Z on this list: http://www.geocities.com/Augusta/9275/index.htm but here's an outfit that has drawings for a lot of other interesting classics.
  5. looking at the pan from the under side, the C6 has a dogleg on one side: the C4 is basically square:
  6. Some GM front-wheel-drives are 5 on 115mm, which is close enough to be confused with 4.5".
  7. She already has a $$$ hobby. Wedding plan$. Next it will be furniture, re-decorating, $hoe$, clothe$....... No need to hide your Z expenses. It's justified as "Therapy". Married Twice, Burned Once
  8. Check with Austin Powers. Time travel back to 1976. Yea baby.
  9. If that is an original '69 or '70 BOSS 302, that parts car is worth a lot intact. But I believe all Boss 302s came with 4-speeds, so the C-4 would have belonged elsewhere originally.
  10. Looks like something from the jet aircraft industry.
  11. How ambitious are ye? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2560495128&category=11774 http://www.blindchickenracing.com/Tools/Tube%20Bender/Tubingbender.htm
  12. The best fit (or least interference) with other suspension and steering components. I used to think it was the caliper itself which dictates position - until I found so many cars you have to take the caliper off and turn the bleeder "up" in order to bleed them.
  13. My thinking also. That's one reason I found a "relatively late" manifold with 4-bolt Rochester carbs, rather than the 3-bolt Stromberg carbs. Figured I could employ three old VW/Porsche -type 2-barrel Webers for an exotic look. The carbs look like a matched set. Only the center has the idle cicuit and choke. The end two never had chokes - obviously a different casting. Thanks!
  14. I just picked up a 40-year-old 3x2 Edelbrock manifold with 3 Rochester carbs for my SBC. Never tuned one before anyone else played with a multi - carb - downdraft on a non-computerized American V8? Um, Gee Officer, What EGR? Among the rumors I have heard: They're hard to tune, one cyl runs rich, the rest run lean, etc.... Throttle linkage is not linear, the outer 2 butterflies open later so she won't flood at lower RPM and a faster rate so all 3 reach WOT at the same time. For looks only- You can block off the 2 outer carbs and get decent gas mileage driving around on the center carb only, until "race day" then uncork the 2 outside carbs.
  15. I was watching the movie "A Clockwork Orange" last night, hadn't seen it in 20 years. Noticed when Alex (Malcolm McDowell) and his buddies are driving along in a futuristic car, it's got a really low, sharp hood. Alex refers to it as the "Durango-95". Sugar scoop headlights (maybe pop-ups) that flow into the raised fenders, and a bubble windshield. I think the scene was just filmed in a studio with a matte or moving screen behind, unfortuantely no profile shots of the car. Anyway, at first it appears to be a McLaren or Lola replica, which would be funny because there are 4 people in a 2-seat car. A quick Google search found the name of the designers / builders - Adams Brothers and the car name is M-505 Probe-16. 3 real ones were built in the late 60's Early 70's, although Corgi made many more toy sized.
  16. Last year there were 2 locals with SBC V8s. Rob Green's awesome BRG 240Z with a SBC 350, T-5, 4 wheel disk brakes. And a 280ZX with a SBC 350, 2x4-barrel crossflow intake.

  18. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2434198633&category=33598 Anybody know what this $10 resistor does? Maybe alter the temp sensor signal so the computer thinks it's cold and runs rich?
  19. Hey let's trade careers. I've been working computers for 20+ years and you know what - I HATE computers. Nawwww, now I'm too old to be crawling around under cars. You have to have the right nature /mentality for technical support and help line questions. Nothing aggravates me more than the 65+ year-olds (yes we have them working here alongside the 20 year-olds ....fun industry) asking me to explain how to do their jobs. I went to school for 7 years, got 3 Engineering degrees, just to form a foundation of "learning how to learn". They want to download all that in 15 minutes!!. "Dr. Freud, please tell me how to be a Psychiatrist like you, I'd like to start my practice this afternoon." "Mr. Shakespeare I'm going to write a great sonnet, please tell me how to do it." Geez! Will Farrel mode: OFF
  20. I've even heard of '78 260s in the UK ..... some markets stayed with carbs and the 2.6L after the North American market went to EFI.
  21. I didn't know that Stucco lath came in high Performance Grades http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2434066332&category=33645
  22. Guess where I am - 70 miles west of Hampton Rds!. The eye went right over Richmond, but by that time the tail of the storm had broken off and that far over land it had lost enough energy to be downgraded to a tropical storm. Still 70 mph winds is like sticking your head out the car window at 70 mph. We have about 10 trees down in the yard and 10 more in the woods behind the house all is a stright path, suspiciously like a tornado scar. The good news : the cars are fine, the house is fine. Worst loss: Our swimming pool was crushed by a tree. We have had no electricity since Thursday, Have to drive 20 minutes for gas to keep the generator going for essentials like well water, refrigerator, lights and TV. No computer, but the phones never went out! Roughing it for now,
  23. Somebody please! Send Jkube a R200 bar before he torches and bends his 240 chassis to match the R180 bar
  24. Great writeup. Thanks John. Are the 8610s for both front and back or front or back only? Scott Bruning has addressed cutting strut tubes squarely - in the "Convertible Z Fabrication" video, he shows a fixture he made for the chop saw. It clamps to both ends of the strut to hold it square to the saw platform and the strut tube rigid on both sides of the blade. Made of 2"x2" angle iron IIRC. He also shows how to use an old strut cartridge for the alignment tool, inserted in the tube, while welding. The old cartridge was drilled out and drained of course.
  25. Standard production 4 bbl, 4-bolt 350, as used in mid-70's Chevrolet pickups.
