  1. We actually had the same idea yesterday. It would definitely simplify piping. As long as the manifolds work with the bolt patterns reversed and they clear the steering rack, it should be fine. That is something I'll need to play around with in CAD to confirm.
  2. Glad to see the interest in it. I was a little bit skeptical at first about the idea, but now I've decided it can happen. Frank, we work on it almost every weekend. Whether its pulling an engine, mocking up parts, or machining, you're welcome to join in anytime Here are the existing exhaust manifolds. I plan on bringing them together in a Y pipe that will collect into the turbo flange. I've started modeling the engine bay and block to get an idea of how much room I have to play with. The initial fit is good, although turbo placement is a little tricky.
  3. I don't think I've ever seen this done before, so here goes.... I work at an amazing engineering company with a bunch of car guys who are particularly found of Porsche. We have had three Porsche 928 cars and lots of engines. Recently I was given one from a 1982 928. Its an all aluminum 4.5l V8. The block is massively stout, and the thing is generally built quite well. They used another 928 block for their 1100hp project car... The plan is to turbocharge it with a Turbonetics T04b. The transmission will be a little bit of a challenge. Porsche originally used a torque tube type setup. I'll be adapting a Z32 transmission with a custom bellhousing plate and modified flywheel. Custom rear sump oilpan, motor mounts, and other little pieces will be needed as well. The first step was removing it from the donor car.
  4. Has any progress been made? I've been creating some body models of my own in Solidworks for mock up purposes. Maybe we could combine efforts.
  5. No pics of it installed yet. Still need to finish up the wiring. Blinkers (left and right), headlights, main power, fuel pump, ac, blower, wipers, aux. I'm also installing a magnetically operated hidden kill switch that will arm a push button starter.
  6. You absolutely need the thermotime sensor hooked up, or the L28 computer freaks out and won't run. It might start for a second, but it will act like it is starved for fuel. This problem drove me crazy until I figured it out. The connector could just be loose.
  7. Hey Eric, I'm about to join the exotic V8 club with you! Porsche 4.5L turbo for me. I would definitely like to keep up with your progress.
  8. I would be most grateful if you could email that to me. Andrewmccalip@gmail.com I was going to experiment with UV leds and fluorescent paper for mine...
  9. http://www.gixen.com Your new best friend.
  10. PM'd Young Z, he has firsts. Offer is 25 bucks for one in good condition?
  11. WTB 280z dampener. With the AC pulley would be preferable. andrewmccalip@gmail.com
  12. Thanks for the compliments! Here are the ones I used. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/12X-ROUND-12V-RED-DOT-LED-ROCKER-SWITCH-TOGGLE-CAR-SPST_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a2096Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a0Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem3a4e3c80d9QQitemZ250420691161QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
  13. Outstanding. The shine went down and now its a nice matte finish. The only problem came from me taking out the dash by myself multiple times. It cracked a little bit from the stress, but that was totally my fault for not supporting it properly. The UV will fade this over time, but it still looks great and will never crack on its own.

  15. Since I can't edit my old post (maybe it has been too long?), here are all the old pictures. I know how annoying it can be to have the content of a post disappear when the links get broken.
  16. Yep. I made a big post about it a few years ago. I'll update the pics and post a link.
  17. Thanks! Yep. I used some 18 gauge sheet metal cut to shape, then bolted it down at 6 locations. Then I used regular bondo applied liberally to blend all the transitions together. Came out even better then I expected. I used the exact same process to restore the dash in the above picture, except in the end I had it professionally sprayed with bedliner.
  18. My dash needed a switch array, as well as some other stuff cleaned up. I bolted in the sheet metal and am working on blending all the curves together. The switches will control all the functions in the car. Headlights, turn signals, wipers, main power, fuel pump, ac, wastegate control. I used rustoleum hammered paint as texture. It came out great!!
  19. 2blue240, where in Sugarland do you live? I've seen a few 240z's running around and have always wondered if they were on the forums.
  20. I'm finally back from college and have time to work on the Z again. I've started to work on a complete rewire of every system from the lights to the engine. My clear begun to flake badly, so I did a quick repaint with SPI black epoxy. My daily driver now. 1994 Acura Integra. Not bad for a grand! It has the smoothest manual tranny I've ever driven. I drew up the basic diagram while bored in class. It incorporates every electrical component of the car. I'm switching all my light switches to the dash to clean up the steering column. Working on the layout. The shape is because I'm fitting it in the spare tire well under my hatch.
  21. That is the most glorious thing I've ever seen. I've been a fan of the Shelby Daytona Coupe for a long time!
  22. I made a real $1050 in stocks on wednesday. Flipping FRE and DSL. Fun stuff!
  23. At the end of Death Race, there is what looks like a rusted out 280z in the junkyard.
  24. Hmmmmm, sounds like a possibility. I haven't seen any documentation about a feature like that built into EDIS though. I still need to try changing the c31 and c32 capacitors to a lower value though.
