it shows dyno sheets and all, and all of the mods were listed. the turbo zx weighs in at about 3g even, and none od the cars I looked at even broke into the elevens. I know they are heavy and all but DAMNIT MAN!! I guess I will be investing in a nice juice setup after all. feel free to look at the site and go to the members rides section and look at it. tell me if there is any way I can fix this quick fast and in a hurry. thanks for any and all advice/responses.

I was looking on http://www.vg30et.com/ at the members rides. there is one guy on there who has 440 rwhp and 490 rwtq and he is only doin LOW TWELVES....WTF?!?! there has gotta be a way to get better times than that. I was thinking that with 500 hp I would AT LEAST be hitting low elevens. I am still going to start working on my Z and try to get up in the 500-600 hp ranges, and hopefully i'll be able to hit my mark...... :'-(

they have made many great things, but have done some STUPID stuff as well.
-
why would a company do that? why make a car with a less powerful motor off the lot have a stronger transmission than the more powerful car??????
-
z-gad - i would just like to say that the video in your sig is very very nice
-
any car can be fast, I have seen a dodge van beat a camaro in the 1/4 mile, its just how much $$$$ it will cost. lol. I know this won't be cheap, but hopefully it won't oh-my-god expensive

7 sec in a vg30et.....THAT SOUNDS LIKE FUN1!!!! I would like to hit around 650, that should be enough for a little while......till I get some N2O. lol
-
i like to stick to the idea of "anything is possible" i can lighten up the car a good bit w/a lot of carbon fibre, and other stuff. but i was planning on some pretty high numbers anyway, so what's 200 more hp? lol.....yep....i'm gonna wind up blowing the damn thing.....thank god for insurance....lol. >

i always liked mr. hyde myself. i see your 9.2 in the 1/4. very very nice. that is something i am hoping to do, get in to the single digits.
-
ohhh, whopsie. lol. i am probably just going to stick with the vg, simply because it is a great power plant from the start. one of the main reasons that i wanted the LS1 is the WOW factor and they just look PERFECT under the hood of a Z. but the vg can make some great numbers, and i don't have to do an ungodly amount of fabrication just to put a motor in. lol.

charlie - i drive a white eclipse, and i have been to rockhill b4. it was fun cause i stomped this guy in a ram 1500.....weird guy if i do say so myself. wheelman - the sponsor is one of my buddies that i have known for 2 yrs now. he runs a computer business and a house buisness where they buy one cheap, build it up, then get a nice profit out of it. I am working on the engine first, but then i am going to get the body/interior/paint job done right so i can take it to shows, that is where he is going to get his money from because he is going to get a nice piece of all the winnings from races/shows/bets etc. DET - nissan v8, like the rbs.....don't make me orgasm. i would LOVE to but the thing is those are expensive not only to buy, but i live in a little town of sumter in a small boring ass state of S.C. i know cars pretty well, but i am by no means a mechanic. so as soon as something goes wrong internally on that motor....i am screwed.
-
fast enough to kill myself.....that just doesn't sound fast enough for me. fast enough to crush myself when starting off the line.....now that sounds like fun. i have a little eclipse, and i got talent, so i can kill myself in that. lol. mainly my dad keeps whining and bitchin that the V8 would cost so much more to put in, and it would take just as much work, and if i ever sell it that i wouldn't be able to get anywhere near my money back....blah blah blah. i'll have to totally redo the suspension and all this stuff that i won't HAVE to do but will wind up doing anyway. but whatever. either way i will find a way to be king of the hill around here, and i don't really care how much $$$$ i have to throw into it. i am a very stubborn person, and once i have a goal i will reach it, no matter what path i am forced to take.
-
i know it ain't the easiest to find, but they say what you work harder for you appreciate more.....so i guess this will make me appreciate it....i don't know. There are a good bit of ricers and a couple of stangs around here.....and i am tired of them being the ones to beat. i want to be able to compete with them....actually i want them to have to fight to keep up with me. this car is sorta light, and the vg30et is a REALLY good motor to build, but it won't be quite as easy. i am hoping that with some hard work, A LOT OF INPUT FROM HYBRIDZ, and some time i will be able to be the top dog of Sumter S.C.

that's what i am trying to tell him, but you don't know my father. if it ain't the way he thinks it ain't right. lol. Just wondering, does anyone know where i can find a vg30et in good condition for sale? i have looked on car-parts.com and emailed some people, but so far no responses. if anyone wants to sell their motor PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

lol, very true.

Charlie - I am over in sumter. it is a small boring town, but i know exactly where Rock Hill is, and i love that place. actually, i just love the drive there, I-77 is a fun little strip. lol. Specialk - i know that it would be easier to get more hp out of a chevy simply because "there is no replacement for displacement" and it isn't goin to be easy or cheap, but i guess i will have to try my best. lol

well my dad is officially more of a pain in the ass than i thought. he went off on a tangent about me doing the v8 swap than i thought was reasonable, but made me think about keeping the vg30et. it does just drop right in and all that fun stuff, but just wondering, what all would have to be done to make it be able to compete w/an ls1 or 350 sbc. i have done a lot of research, but i haven't been able to find a breakdown or anything of what would have to be done to accomplish everything. I would really like to be able to hit around 500 hp and i know that it won't be the easiest thing in the world to do, but i know it is possible. i am not worried about budget, i have a sponsor for the majority of costs, so i will worry about that much later, but i am the kind of person that likes to plan how i am going to swim before i jump into the water, so if anyone would give me some of their ideas i would greatly appreciate it. ps - i have searched, but like i said i haven't been able to find a good breakdown of everything.
-
thanks alot for the quick response. i am not EXTREMELY concerned about money considering i have a financial backer who is paying 65% of all costs, and a sponsor for tires, so cost isn't a huge deal, but it can still add up over time. one of the things that i really want the car to have, for shows, is a remote start and top of the line security system. Can i have that with a carb, or do i need EFI? i heard there was a way for a carb to do it, but it was from someone who i trust about as far as i can throw.....and he is a pretty big guy. lol

okay, i have been planning on doing my swap for a couple of months now, and tax time is coming up so i will be starting in a month or two(as soon as i get back my taxes) and i need to finalize what i am going to do to my Z. at first i wanted to just do a regular vg30et setup and make everything simple....then i found hybridz.....and threw that plan out the window at record speeds. i had chosen to go with a traditional 350 sbc.....then i started doing more research and decided i wanted to go with the LS1 since it was much like the traditional 350 but comes fuel injected, is made out of aluminum, and comes with more power from the factory. Well, now that i tell people what i am planning they give me ideas as well. this is good because i love to hear new ideas because it can help me to avoid mistakes that shouldn't occur in the first place. The problem is there are some who say the LS1 is superior in all aspects but others who say that the traditional 350 is the only choice. I wanted to go with the LS1 becasue i live 20 miles from ANYWHERE and after i get the Z running it is going to be my dd and i will then work on my other car and i need good gas mileage. Well, some people have said that i can get just as good gas mileage w/the 350. Also, there is VERY little wiring in a 350 unlike in a LS1 swap. That doesn't matter an extreme amount to me because i have already talked to a speed shop and they said that they could do the wiring, but it will cost me. So please, i know all of you have had more experience with the different motors than i have so will you please point me in the right direction???? I know some of you will say search, and i have. There has been contradicting stuff in the posts that i found and i am sure that this post could be helpful to others when they are deciding on their swap. Thank you for any and all help

.....that is damn near orgasmic. that is a BEAUTIFUL paint job. But i do have to say that it is pure evil that you are only giving that to us for now. :'-( congratulations boss Also, i saw your car in the "servin it up" dvd and it is purely WICKED

electric dash + sensor = problems
typhoone replied to typhoone's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
sorry it took so long for me to respond. thank you very much for your help. i would have responded sooner, but between work, school, and attempts at sleep i have barely been able to get on the computer for anything. thank you once again. -
okay, i know that some of the sensors from my 86 zx can be used after i have installed the ls1, but there is a problem that i just realized, that i want to check before i get started. I have the special edition of the zx that came with leather seats and and electric dash. Will this be able to work for the rpms, speedometer, etc or do i need to get a new dash or new gauges and just mount them? Don't say search, i beg you. I just searched and there were only four threads...none of which helped. Thank you for your help.

it is people like you who keep me going. congratulations on your numbers, anything else you plan on doing to it? hopefully i'll be able to post my numbers in around six months. I plan on getting a 383 stroker kit for the ls1 before I get it put in though. congrats again.
-
just making sure of something, the LS1 comes fi, right. I am thinking about using that instead of the 350, because it is a little lighter, has more power stock, and is just as easy to build up, at least that's what i've gathered

I know I have been making a lot of posts and I hope I am not annoying anyone but I have a lot of questions, and when people ask me questions and give me ideas I have more questions, so as the title says LS1 vs 350. which one is the better motor to put into a z? will it be more annoying than putting in the 350? it is a good thing I am planning this all out before I build it, I would have restarted a couple of times now. lol
