I saw something like this on another forum for ls1s and stuff, but if figure since i am going to be working on a vg30et and not an ls1 this could be helpful to me plus anyone else who reads it. So basically, what mistakes have you made? it can be anything from a performance part that didn't live up to its name, or anything else that you just really wish you hadn't done. Also, what mistakes have you come close to making but the hybridz community helped you avoid?

because i really don't like the way the 84 is cooled, but i might not have to worry about that, i just got off the phone with a guy in N.C. who has an 85 z with only around 60,000 on it and he has done ALOT of work on it including going t3/t4 with a turbo from a Grand National, and he is asking a really good price for it. the interior is shot, but that's no biggy since i want to put some nice racing seats in it and get the interior custom done anyway. If i get it it will be around the middle of Feb, which isn't that long off. As soon as i get my taxes i would have it and then be able to begin on the good stuff.

well, if you want to sell the engine I would put it in my z31, nd I promise i'd put it to good use. lol

well, things might be a little easier than I thought since I am now only getting the motor/tranny/ecu and not the entire car. lol. less work for me. just wondering, since these have the same transmission I should be able to just use the one that I get from him already bolted up, and all that fun stuff. that way we can just put it in and wire it up and go vroom vroom, right? hopefully after that I will be able to start actually workin on performance stuff. I have been waiting to do this for months now, and it is almost here. just another month plus shipping time and then it will all begin.

sounds like a fun swap. You would have the reliablity of the z31 with the looks of a z32...very nice. Just wondering, what all have you done to your vg30et?

yeah, they had stuff for the 8.5-1 compression ratio. so all should be pretty good. just wondering, how long do you think it would take to yank this motor and put it in the other car? I have never done this before, so I am trying to prepare the best I can.

with the cooling part, will that be a problem when I go t3/t4 hybrid? or will it really matter after I get an intercooler? also, I went to google and typed in 300zx rebuild kit and actually found some. don't know how reliable it all is, but the prices seem to add up to what I found when I priced individually, and it said it was for the vg30e motors so maybe they are worth a look.

okay, it is official, taxes will be here in no time flat, so I have to put my planing into overtime. I finally found another 300zx that has a running motor. basically I just need to make sure beyond a shadow of a doubt (that's why I am making a post along with doing searches) that the 84 turbo and the 86 turbo had THE EXACT SAME MOTOR/TURBO/TRANNY/ECU etc. what I am planning on doing is just yanking the motor out of that car and putting it in my 86. also, what all should I do to make sure everything goes well with this transplant? anything that needs to replaced? Finally, does anyone make a rebuild kit for the vg30et? I couldn't find one. if not, does anyone have the parts I need to rebuild it that they would like to sell? thanks for all help and input -typhoone

was is the difference between vg30det and vg30et? i really need a vg30et but if the det is the same i might get that. also, you are asking 1900 au, what does that translate to in US?

I went to the junkyards here in sumter, and the closest thing I found was a 1992 and I thought ''okay, maybe i'll do a hybrid and just use the tt motor'' then I found out that THE ONLY PARTS THAT HAD BEEN SOLD OFF THAT DANG CAR WAS THE MOTO/TRANNY! I swear, someone doesn't want me to do this car....lol. any other comments? anybody wanting to sell their car/motor? I honestly don't care about the body's condition, as long as the motor is good.

I have been looking for one and contacting people through emails and everything, and I think that out of the 20 emails I have sent I have got MAYBE 5 emails back. i was about to say, aluminum at 600 hp, there is no way that it won't warp. cookson - the only problem with that is that i have a z31. is there anyone who can make those?

there is a nice idea. never really thought too much about suspension. this should be fun. around how much do u think a new setup like that would cost? also, with all the power I want to make I really don't want to break the drive shaft. does anyone know where I could get a carbon fiber ds made and around how much $$$ it would cost??? thank you for all your input

very valid point, because if you can't catch you can't go. But the thing is, if I invest enough money into my car to where i am capable of spinning out an entire 1/4 mile, you had BETTER BELIEVE that i will find SOME way to make it catch. i don't car if i have to buy the top of the top of the line tires, a custom LSD, or any thing else. If i make that much hp, i WILL get it to the ground....somehow.....lol

if I had a viper and could only do 15 sec.....I would either shoot myself or sell it and buy a honda since that would be moving the same speed. lol.

i wouldn't feel too bad if it was just one or two cars, but it was just about EVERYONE. There is only one person on the members list that has broken into the 11 second territory.....WTF. I am deffinately going to be getting up to around 500-600 hp....then putting a 200 shot on it....otherwise i will cry.....alot. lol
