  1. Yep I was thinking about the Edelbrock performer manifolds. I went out and pulled the manual choke lever and it fired up on the turn of the key It seems that the engine is pretty solid in spite of how gunked up the engine bay is. Looks like the old intake has a small crack in it where the oil filler tube connects and thus oil creeps out all over the engine, very very slowly but it makes for quit an ugly engine bay. The oil cap on the driver's side valve cover seems to be stripped and oil also creeps from here as well. All of this doesn't matter because probably all of these items will be replaced. It does sound good with the one chamber flow masters ((well at least that's what the guy said it had)) dont you just love to buy something and not know what you have until you get to poking around with it. Ok I'm rambling now, Mike I will go back out and see if I can find those numbers on the Holley.
  2. ok went out and looked at the Edlebrock manifold, the only numbers I found were arranged in this order: S.P.2-P. I looked at the Holley carb but couldn't find any numbers on it. Is this the old manifold that you guys have been talking about? I'm heading back out to look some more. Be back in a few. Oh almost forgot, thanks nightrider for the info!
  3. Cool T-Zee, the car runs pretty good it was raining yesterday when I drove it home though so I couldn't stand on it for fear of flying off the road into a ditch. The guy told me that it had a Munci Rock Crusher tranny and a Lokar rear end. However he also said that the engine was a special order vette engine that came with the car and had never been molested. LOL, just looking at those valve covers will tell you the story on that note. I was wondering, is there any way to get rid of the long filler tube by means of a block off plate and just use the valve cover filler location, ((when I buy my new covers))?? Also where can I go to find the info about my engine that I found on the suffix code? I have seen posts on here before where guys post thier engine numbers and someone deciphers it for them. Oh what fun I will have on my off day!
  4. Ok called the autoparts on line folks and cancelled my order. Ordered from Victoria Brit who said that my fender will be here in 10-14 days. Motorsport Auto would have gotten my business but their phones were screwed up. Oh well let the waiting begin again.
  5. Ah ha... I thought that filler tube looked ancient to me. Now I wonder what this engine came from and what year of car? How do I go about finding out those things? Here is the link to see more pics: http://communities.msn.com/WowIcouldvehadaZ8Datsun/_whatsnew.msnw
  6. Ok here is pic of engine, note the long oil filler tube, they also have two valve covers with the oil caps on them too. So really it has three places to put oil in it
  7. Lone, it has the long oil filler tube in the front of the engine, you know the type I am talking about? I had a 76 Camaro with a 350 and it didn't have this long filler neck thing that this engine has. when did Chevrolet stop using this method of oil filler location and move to the valve cover filler holes?
  8. Ok went to that site and found out that the engine is a 350 and could be in a 70-76 camaro 2 or 4 bolt main. Another site said that it could be a 70-73 which is correct? Also what does the code on the front of the block say about my car? Can not find that on the site you gave, maybe I missed it. I will keep looking.
  9. Well guys I finally went and bought a raggedy ole 75 Camaro. Now here's the fun part, lets see what the sucker really has under the hood! I was told by the young seller that the car still had the original engine and that it was a 350. Here are the numbers I found so far: On the drivers side back of block: 3970014 On the passenger side front behind the alternator:T0705CMA On the passenger side rear of block: T5CONV2 Ok fellas what do I have? Me and the misses have to run to Kmart so I will check when I get back. Thanks in advance guys, I know you will come through! Pics soon! By the way I doubt very seriously that the car has its original engine. It has Edlebrock aluminum intake and Holly 4 barrel, and full length headers, Vrooooom
  10. Oh so you were the dirty rotten son#$$$% LOL just kidding Bang, yep these guys are something else. Thier prices are good but I have to say that the service pretty much sucks. I wonder who they get the fenders from? If we could find out we could just eleminate the middle man and get them straight from thier supplier. Yeah that's the ticket. Again no hard feelings Bang, you only tried to help me out and I appreciate that very much
  11. Thanks 660, I may be heading in the 400ci direction. Say those "400" fender badges off of that Impala would look real nice on the side of my Z
  12. LMAO@T-Zee and his story.. So the thing was named after a "Dung Bettle" lord help us.
  13. Datsun 660, When you say that the 400 will fit fine in the JTR position are you using the 400 external damper or are you using the 350 set up that Grumpy suggested? The reason I ask is this, I may have a chance to buy a 71 Impala with the 400ci in the next couple of days and was wondering how much more work is invlolved in putting it in the Z rather than the 350. By the way I have a 280Z.
  14. DO NOT ORDER FROM THESE GUYS! About a month ago I was asking on this site about getting a front fender for my Z, somebody posted thier link and suggested that I buy from them instead of Victoria British. Here's the problem, it is almost one month later since I placed my order with them for my fender and they still haven't shipped it! This is according to thier very hard to understand customer service person. They told me that they didn't even have my fender yet and that it should get to them in a couple of days, then it would be shipped to me I would go with Motorsports Auto and yes it does cost about $80.00 to ship the fenders. If I can cancel my order with these folks I may do that tomorrow and get my fender from MSA. Just a side note, one day after I oredered my fender from them I ordered a heater core and all hoses from Victoria British. I got that order in 3 days! Again avoid these guys like the plague!
  15. Yes folks I am familiar that the SCARAB was the original V-8 thing before the JTR and MSA and the others arrived. I just thought that it stood for something. I know its the name of the company but nothing I have read ((I have the JTR book too)) has said anything about what "SCARAB" means. T-Zee are you just pulling my leg or are you being serious about the whole beetle thing? Anyway, I thought it might mean something, you know like "JTR" stands for "Jags that Run"
  16. Does anyone know what "SCARAB" stands for? Is it a person's name? An ankronym (SP)? Or what. Come on I know somebody has to know this one.
  17. Quick question, will the jtr set back plates that are used for the 350 also work for the 400? Or, are there some mods that have to be done?
  18. LOL thanks T Zee, unfortunatly I never even made it that far. Just a couple of phone calls and a meeting with him at his front door. Oh well still searching.
  19. Oh well back to the drawing board. The guy now has decided that he doesn't want to sell it to me because his brother wants the car! I knew this was coming because he kept stalling with me. I tried to go and look at the car Friday night when I left work early but he said that his brother had the keys and that he had showed interest in buying the car and turning it into a drag car but never brought him the money. I called him a few minutes ago and he told me that his brother was going to bring him the money today....but if he didn't he would give me a call I will not hold my breath for this guy There are far to many Camaros and other vehicles for that matter that have the 350 in my area, I will find another one.
  20. Ok Ok Ok I have to say something here! To the one fella who said that he wasn't there in the 70's and that his boses all say that the Z wasn't respected and that the Z was merely looked at as a ricer back then. Tell your bosses they must have been driving station wagons back then! The Z car didn't become the best selling sports car of all time because it was looked at as a RICER! NO NO NO! The little Z deserves much respect. When I was a teenie bopper in the 70's I couldn't afford a Z. Most teens couldn't, so therefore you didn't have all the rediculous things done to the early Zs like you see with the Hondas, Cavaliers, Neons and so forth. As far as all the talk about louvers, I had them on a 76 Camaro and a 80 Sunbird so they were not just on the Z's either. Louvers were a car craze fad that swept through practically every brand and make of car back then. Just to finish this out, my mom had one of those early Honda Civics (70's) model, I test drove many 70's model Z's and the two dont compare, remember I was there...in the 70's, I had a chance to drive these cars when they were factory tight and fresh smelling on the inside, no rust in the floor pans! Leave the Z out of the RICER discussion for it does not deserve to be mentioned in the same breath. Thank you, and good day
  21. Well guys I will be heading off to try and get the Camaro in a few I will offer him $500 to start with and see what that gets me. I have learned in the past that when you flash 5 one hundred dollar bills in the face of someone who wants to sell something badly enough they will usually take it. Wish me luck, it has been raining here in north Georgia quite a bit lately and the thing is sitting in his flooded front yard!
  22. Well folks I rode around my town for about two hours tonight looking for that old car in the front yard sale. I had almost given up when I spied a 1978-79 rough looking Camaro sitting close to the road in someones front yard. I stopped and got the guy to the door who said that the car was for sale and that he wanted $800 for it. Better yet he said that it had a 350 and that it ran strong! He said that if I wanted to hear it run he would bring a battery home tomorrow from work and crank it up (it was around 8:40pm when I looked at it) I went out and took off the hood (yes it was held on by hood clips) and stood there looking at what appeared to be an aluminum intake and a massive looking Holly 4-barrel carb! Wooooohoooooo jackpot!!!! chromed valve covers and more! The battery in the Camaro looked like it was way too small so that would be his cranking problem. I will go back with some cash on Saturday because I will be working second shift tomorrow. If I buy it I will have to post some pics. Man I'm so happy that I want to run back down there and just give him the cash tonight!
  23. Denny the silver 240 looked good and complete on the outside but the floors were another story. However, so many guys on here have the no how to fix those sort of things that it really wouldn't matter. I do not know how much they want but you could give them a call, but then there would be that ugly towing thing we discussed earlier on one of our posts.
