  1. Craig I just came in from the garage with the ear drums a ringing and three ruined air chisel blades That sucker basically laughed at my little air chisel, I tried three different blades on it and it seemed to do little good. I accidently went into the little thin strip of metal that you are talking about and have come to the conclusion that this is going to be the only way to get it off. Um I have to go and buy some new chisel blades before I can continue. And maybe some ear plugs,....eh what's that you said?
  2. Well I am glad you brought this topic up (ford starter solenoid). I posted a question on the ford board and I don't think anybody wanted to touch it. Well one guy tried but I do not think he ever knew what in the H3$$ I was talking about so the thread just died. My 71 Ford pickup has this problem. It has the Ford solenoid (duh) so I do not see how this would help on a hard starting Chevy. My truck fires right up when cold or cool but when you drive it for a while it is hard to start. Keep in mind the truck isn't running hot, that's what the other guy thought I was talking about. It is a 302ci with 2bbl carb.
  3. This is a good question, I have been wanting to go the with the glass hood myself with the two vents and the cowl induction. I have never heard of the temps being higher under the glass hood so if anybody has any suggestions on this topic please chime in. Oh by the way, I can't see how they would be higher just looking at it from a common sense point of view. I mean if I change out my 75 hood (no vents) with a hood that is lighter with three places to vent hot air, it should be a lot better than stock in my opinion.
  4. Thanks, I thought of just stuffing the old engine in the Z without having it rebuilt but I, like most on this site can't do just that. Nooooo while it's out, I should take it and have it rebuilt, yeah that's the ticket! I think that the stock heads will give me more than enough power for the little Z. Besides, I can always upgrade to the nice "pricy" aluminum heads while the engine is in the bay, and when I recoupe some cash. Heck I could use that extra grand that would have been spent on heads elsewhere. Remember, I still need to refurbish the stock brakes, find a radiator, tires, wheels, interior parts, drive shaft and lets not forget the most important thing, a tranny. Unless I want to try and use the old Muncie Uhhhhhhh No!
  5. Pete yours is one of the best looking ones I've seen, and unlike some of the other guys here I would love to have a good looking one like that instead of the black ones that MSA sells. Oh well the strut bar for me is a little down the road anyhow, I'm not even close to being that far along yet. However, I have all kinds of parts flooding my spare bedroom, storage buildings, and garage area right now just waiting for when the time comes to put them all back on the car To make matters worse, I have began to disassemble the old Camaro and plan on selling its parts on ebay so now I have two cars that wont run sitting around and double the parts!
  6. Hey guys here is an update on the fender progress. I have massaged and rubbed the fender and have beat and banged and cut on the fender and cussed Wick Humble's name at the top of my lungs for the last couple of days! Here is the problem I see so far. The thing either is going to be fitting extra tight or not at all. I mean all of the bolts line up except the two bottom 12mm bolts. I had to do a little cutting on a piece that was keeping the fender from sitting all the way down like it should and that gave me a couple of more inches to work with. I now have the fender within about 1/2 inch or less from being able to bolt in the bottom holes. God willing I will get it on there if I have to make my own holes!
  7. I have been trying to "decode" numbers on my new project 350 engine since I bought it. Today I went looking for the head numbers and here is what I found. 333882= 74-78 350/400 76cc chambers F28 74= June 28 1974 The engine is a 1974 block with the following numbers. Casting# 3970014 Suffix code# T0705CMA (Tonawanda, 7-5-1974) I plan on getting an edelbrock aluminum intake and carb, and keep the stock heads unless anyone sees a big problem with the ones I have. I would love to get Edelbrock aluminum heads to match the intake but money is kinda scarce. What cam would you all reccomend with this set up? What carb and intake? The car will be classified as a daily driver mostly going to shows but I do want some punch out of the engine. Thanks. Also I have contacted a local engine builder who says that he will charge about $975.00 to rebuild the 350. Does this price sound good?
  8. LOL thanks T Zee and Mike C, the next time I roll it down into the drive I will do the jack test and see what happens. If it is a posi I have a buyer alreaady lined up so cross your fingers on that one
  9. Larry, The Camaro has the short bars that go from the radiator support to the fender well. I looked at buying a 70's model Malibu that had the long bars that you speak of, only it had the 305 instead I have been looking at using the short camaro bars under the hood of the Z in some fashion but I have not got too serious with it yet. I also may sell the ZX mirrors that I bought from Z Car Atlanta and go with the steel (metal) Camaro mirrors instead. Ah decissions decissions decissions
  10. Hey does anybody have any links that would help me identify the rear axle in a 76 Chevy Camaro? I would also like to know what axle ratio my 75 Z has. Any help would be appreciated. Ok afer a brief search I think I found my answer kind of, the axle code I have is "PU G61 391" Now the PU stands for "locking 2.73:1" the G stands for "Detroit Gear and Axel" but I am stumped on what the other numbers mean. Is this a posi traction rear end or not?
  11. Personally I like the one that Pete Paraska has on the blue Z. Pete if you are a listening where did you get that one? Is it custom as in you had it made, or did you buy it somewhere?
  12. And guys...lets not forget the 6 day shipping to my front door! Wooooooohooooooo I'm with Mike VB all the way! Just a side note to this, I also tried to call MS that day and order one of their fenders instead but as luck would have it their phone system was all screwy so if you snooze you loose!
  13. LMAO I suspected as much
  14. Hello and welcome to our little world, there was a recent post about the 283 that had a lot of responses. If you look at the last few posts in the chevy 350 board I'm sure you will find it. Again welcome to Hybrid. Hey I looked it up for you, go back to page three and look at the post called "why a 283" hope this helps.
  15. Hello guys, Well the Victoria British fender I ordered on 5/9/02 arrived today. That only took about 6 days! The other guys at autoparts on line never got my fender and it was going on one month! Now as far as the quality it is primo It is primed in black on both sides and came packed in a very good container, lots of packing material inside. I had to cut off the box to get it out because it was packed so good. The fender came from a company called Long Motors even though I ordered it through VB. The fender doesn't just bolt right on however and will take a little bit of lining up before it fits just right but this is not a slam on VB. I have the "How to Restore Your Datsun Z Car" by Wick Humble book and on page 39 he talks about new body parts and their condition. "...no experienced bodyman expects-or usually finds-a new body panel to be perfect as delivered." "...it may need considerable trimming, drilling, straightening, and massaging into shape before it qualifies as a replacement for the original panel." I hope this helps out on the great debate of Victoria British sucking when it comes to fenders, I have one and I for one am perfectly happy with it and remember folks it only took about 6 days to get to me!

  17. Hi guys I have spent the whole day pulling the old Camaro engine and tranny. There was a lot more to do it seems like than when I pulled my Z's engine a few weeks ago. Anyway here is my question, the guy that I got the Camaro from said that it had a Muncie rock crusher tranny and a lockar rear end. The numbers on the tranny are: GM3857584 and 3885010 I did a search on the web for Muncie and found a site that listed Muncie codes. The "3885010" code came back to a 66-67 1" bore patent. Is this a rock crusher tranny? The rear end has the numbers PU G61391 is this a posi rear end? Thanks guys. Oh yeah the tranny mount was deffinantely not chevrolet, or should I say not factory, so the tranny and engine were transplanted into the camaro by someone sometime ago.
  18. Yep if the price is right I am very interested Say you wouldn't want my ole 4 speed that I'm fixin to take out of the Camaro would ya? I am guessing that you are probably going for a 5 or 6 speed though.
  19. yep T-Zee I already have a buyer for the rear end and the transmission if they are what the kid claimed they were. Then there is always Ebay for the other things such as the 3 piece rear spoiler, taillights, interior parts and so on. I will have to find a local swap meet to attend soon and see what I can do. My goal is to get at least 4 to 5 hundred dollars back by selling the parts, more would be better. I had planned on driving the car when I bought it but I think that I will pull the engine soon and do a gasket overhaul on it, buy a new intake and leave it alone for awhile while I save enough money to have it rebuilt. Now I have to start searching for my 700R4
  20. Hmm according to that link this car is really a 1976 Camaro that came with a 250ci engine. The Vin on the car is: 1Q87D6N6@@@@@ so that denotes that it is a 76 Camaro correct? The engine in the car is a 350, so I guess that someone over the years swapped it out.
  21. Terry, I too have heard bad things about Vic Brit fenders but never Motorsports fenders. I have ordered a fender from Vic Bit and they tell me 10-14 days. The total cost on the fender including shipping is $229.00. The cost on the autoparts fender was going to be around $172.00 without the shipping cost known! So add about $80 to that and you get $252.00! Now all of the sudden they dont seem so "rock bottom" on thier prices. Especially when you have to wait a month or more to get one. I will let everyone know how well the Vic Brit fender fits when it arrives.
  22. The cute girl is the best option that a car can have, lol She loves to work on the cars too which is great because if she didn't my life would be a lot more hectic. Thanks Grump
  23. He was asking $1600! I got him down to $1100 on the phone. Paid him $900 I really didn't want to go to 900 on the car but I figured that I could get some of my money back by parting out the rest of the car. I sure as hell wasn't going to go $1600. Mike the numbers on the Holley are as follows: List-1850-2 0449 We will figure this thing out yet!
