Well I just came in from work and got what I figured I would. Thanks guys for waking me back up! I am sure that I will find that rusty old camaro, monte carlo, nova, or chevelle somewhere I tried to get to the back of the block to get some numbers yesterday but couldn't. What I was really hoping happened over the years someone may have stuck a 350 in there. All I could find was the firing order. My guess is that it will be the same on the 305 as the 350, right? The firing order was 18436572 if I looked at it right. Thanks guys for the quick responses.

I was out yesterday just riding around looking for my doner car when I struck gold. Well at least I thought I did. I found a mid 70's model Malibu Classic sitting in a parking lot for sale. You know the BIG Malibu model. So I took a look. The hood and trunk were almost rusted completly through and better yet the price on the window said $700! I know I could have offered the guy $400 and he would have broke my arm to get it! Now for the important question, what was under the hood? Could it be my coveted 350? Or will it be a big inline 6 like my father's old Malibu he had back in the 70's? Maybe a 305 even. I opened the hood to see a V-8 resting between the frame and got giddy! But when I looked at the sticker on the radiator support, you guessed it 305ci Here is my questions: Is a 305 worth getting or should I hold out for the 350? How much horsepower can I get from one of those, I had an IROC Z once with a 305 and it scooted along just fine. How can you tell the difference between the 305 and the 350 just looking at them in the engine bay? Oh by the way, as I have said before, I will not be interested in racing my Z-8 once it is done so I do not need or want un godly horsepower, just maybe 300 or 350 horses is all. I want to be able to smoke the ricers though heheh

Hi, I must have mislead you when I said "hot" The truck never runs hot. I meant to say that when you drive it say for at least 20-30 minutes and shut it off to go into a store or something it doesn't start up as easy and you have to crank the engine over several times. The engine was rebuilt over a year ago and I haven't noticed any change in performance over this time. It actually runs the same as it did before the rebuild when it had over 100,000 miles on the engine. It cranks fine when you start it for the first time in the day or after it has sat a while. Again it never runs hot.

Transmission crossmember question
Georgia Flash replied to georgiaz's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Hey Georgia Z, when you go back take a look at the burgundy ZX missing the mirrors They will be on my Z soon! I have already done a trial fit on the driver's door and it looks great! Now all I have to do is scuff up that beautiful burgundy, prime and paint when the time comes. On another note it is sad to see so many Zs that once prowled the streets just sitting there rusting away There is a complete 240Z (silver) I'm talking with the emblems and all with no body damage, well not much anyway, just waiting for someone to come be its savior. Ok I'm getting all teary eyed and sad I must go -
Transmission crossmember question
Georgia Flash replied to georgiaz's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Woooohooooo! I went scavaging at the Z car Atlanta Z Car grave yard the other day and picked up the automatic shifter and trim plate from an old 240, two beautiful side mirrors from a 280ZX, an end vent for my dash (you know the little round guys that MSA dont have anymore), two side piller emblems that look brand new and some various other parts. The auto shifter and trim plate will make my Z look almost stock on the inside! -

Good morning Georgia Z, I too have the 75 280 and I know what you are talking about. I haven't tried to get at mine yet but when I do I will probably try and separate it where the mount is welded to the thin brace type thing that goes around the tunnel. Like T Zee said leaving a little probably will not hurt and should add a little strength to the tunnel as well. And I hear ya on the JTR book and its partialness to the 240! Still a great book though, I just wish it was more clear on the 280 about some things -
Congrats Georgia Z! Now I am jealous because I haven't got mine yet. But I am working on it Tomahawk Z you listening? Good luck, I haven't ripped into my tranny mounts yet but will soon, and I think that I will go with the air chisel

LOL, what a dumb a$$!! There are certain cars that are best left alone, you leave them as they came! The Corvette is an American classic that looks good straight from the factory! It would be like buying one of the new 350Z's and ricing it out!

Man I like the stainless hood vent from the boat! I have been trying to figure out what vents to use on my hood to make it a little different. I even thought that I could get me a pair of those 70's model Trans Am or Camaro side vents for my fenders! sweeeeet I'm kinda afraid of making a crooked cut though and thus ruining my hood. I to can not wait to see what you are gonna do up front in that big ole square hole.

Hello guys, I know this is probably not the place to ask a question like this but it the only place I know that will give you quick reliable answers to questions so here goes. Besides my Z-8 project I have a 1971 Ford F-100 with a 302 and a automatic C-4 tranny. Now I have had the engine rebuilt (totally stock) and it just doesn't seem to get up and go like I thought it would. I have dual exhaust with 2 chamber flow masters. It also doesn't want to crank that easy after you have drove it for a while and shut it off. The engine has to be turned over several times before it will crank. What mods could I do to make it get up and go and also be more reliable when cranking while hot? Any help will be appreciated. Oh and also, I have considered putting a 302 in my Z but know that right now no one sells a kit for it so I will go with the SBC instead, thanks guys in advance

Thanks for the directions, Forsyth is about a 30 minute drive from Macon on I-75 going north. Takes about 2 hours to get there from here in the early morning hours but coming home is about a 4 hour drive -

Thanks bowtie, I will definately call Keith and Holly tomorrow when I get a spare moment and talk to them about possibly shipping me some paint My everyday driving vehicle right now is my old 1971 Ford F-100, with 2by60 air conditioning and drum brakes all around! Gets real scary on the interstate especially when i have to hit the brakes hard, all four wheels seem to want to go in thier own direction. Lol I go down to Forsyth every now and then for training at the GPSTC, isn't Conyers somewhere between Atlanta and Forsyth? -

Thanks Georgia Z, yep the lady at our local PPG seemed pretty knowledgeable but somehow I get the feeling she wasn't on the up and up. Especially when I came back on here and told the Hybrid Zers what she had reccomended and just about everyone agreed that the product she tried to push at me was old stuff that isn't even legal to sell anymore! Yeah I would like to get with someone close by that I could compare notes with and talk about things that I have done or they have done to thier Z that shouldn't be repeated. I think Pete refers to them as "dumb moves" or something like that on his web site. I have tried to convince some of my friends to start a hybrid Z project with little success so that's why I'm here almost every day checking for new info. Who knows, maybe someday some of us "Georgia Boys" can hook up like some of those "Cali hybrids" do Thanks. By the way here's my email address: flatfoot47@hotmail.com -

Hello Racer X, I have a siphon fed gun I Believe it is a cambell hausfeld but i would have to go and check. Yep the old lady said that she reccomended the Delstar. Discontinued huh...old stock...hmmmm I may have to go back to the Dupont store. I kinda liked that guy a little better anyway. RX can you recommend a dupont product or are you partial to PPG? Also what colors are traditionally the cheapest and which ones will be the easiest to apply by a beginner? I just do not want to spend $600.00(according to the old lady) for my first at home paint job if you know what I mean. I would like to get my feet wet by trying a somewhat cheaper product but one that gives good results -
Thanks for the response 72Zcar, I guess I will have to go with the JTR kit because I like the look of the full chrome air cleaner as opposed to the little triangle shaped one. One of the things that the JTR book talks about is that thier position allows you to run a full size air filter for "more horsepower" I will study this subject a bit further before I commit to either kit.

Hi Owen, Yep I will be using a grey high build primer before the red goes on. I have a few imperfections in my body so I will be busy for a while with those. Yeah the money thing is the big problem for me and yes I will be attempting this job at home so I will probably go with the single stage paint. Thanks -
Thanks Jon

Yep Pete the brown had to go. It was in really bad shape anyway and red is my fav color. I just came back from the PPG store where I asked a bunch of questions. The lady there said she would go with a product called "DelStar" single stage acryilic enamel. Racer X have you heard of this and is this a good choice? I inquired about the color "Torch Red" and for the gallon of the DelStar + reducer + hardner would run me about $266.38. For a two stage Torch Red paint job it would be as much as $600+!!!! ouch!!!! She said that there was a cheaper paint called "Omni" that they carried but she wouldn't reccomend it. What do yall think? -

Ok I am about to blow my cover here but no one has ever bothered to ask me what I do for a living but I can't resist this one. I have been a police officer for about 12 years now and I can just say from my experience behind the shield that I do not look for certain color cars or people for that matter. I know that there are a lot of misconceptions about police and just how we do our jobs. We do get a lot of bad press and people tend to dwell on that instead of the good deeds we do every day. Now having said that, believe me there are bad cops out there just like there are bad mechanics, bad doctors, bad paint and body men etc...Cops are people just like everyone else and come from all types of backgrounds. If a cop stops you because your car is red then he doesn't need to be in the profession, however, if you happen to be doing 75mph in a 40mph zone and you just happen to be driving a red car, don't blame the cop -
That was too funny, but I have to wonder, some of those pics were taken from within the "red-necks" compound. If this guy has called the cops several times I do not think ole JD8 would allow him on the property just to get pics. So is the neighbor committing an act of criminal trespass when ole JD is not at home? I have to wonder. It is a very funny site though, it reminds me of some of my cousins lol.

Hey Jon, do you know what the paint code is on your car? That red is very nice!

The dark one is better I think

Georgia Flash replied to Georgia Flash's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Thanks Racer X, my car was an ugly brown originally so I had to go with something else. I had it narrowed down to a few colors, red, black, silver or Pete Paraska blue ((I just love that dark blue)). Racer X what would you reccomend for a novice painter? In novice I mean I had never touched a paint gun until just the other day when I began to use primer on my car. Now I have to say that I am very impressed with the way the primer has layed down so far. I do not have any runs or drips in the etching primer or the DP90 that I applied to my Z. Would you think that bc/cc is the way for me to go? I do have extensive experience with the old rattle can, and consider myself a WalMart spray can painter extraordinare, lol Oh Tomahawk I almost forgot, yep she does like her new black dress, and the lady loves to lounge around all day in my garage even with half of her parts strewn about here and there. lol But we both know that the little black dress is just a temporary thing. Have you checked out my home page? You can still catch some of the vintage weed shots there. -
I saw some pics of a car with the MSA kit installed and I too have to agree that the motor looks to be as close as the JTR kit to the firewall. MSA also sells a hood latch conversion kit because of the engine being so close to the firewall after the conversion. So I believe in all fairness that the MSA kit engine placement is no where near where the SCARB kit was and is in fact closer to the JTR kit. Hold on I will call them and ask, I need to order some parts anyway..... ok Jeff at MSA was no help at all, he said that he had never heard of the JTR kit so he suggested that I talk to Sal who will not be back until the morning. I called them because I had finally talked myself and my wallet into buying the front air dam #50-1409 rear skirt #50-1473 3 piece spoiler and side skirts. Jeff told me that they were all out of these and every fiberglass part! Said to call back in about a month YOu would think that this could not happen. Oh well.....hmmm I wonder what Victoria British has

Hello guys, Well I have pretty much made up my mind to go with red as the color for my Z. Does anyone know the paint code for the new GMC full size Sierra pick ups? Would this paint be a bc/cc type of paint? I think that will be the direction I go in also. I want to pick a color that will be easy to get (and not be too expensive) in case I have an accident or something and need to repaint. I really like the shade of red on the new GMC's. I will be paying a visit to the paint shop tomorrow to get another quart of DP90LF and want to ask about the red paint so any comments on this matter will be appreciated. I want to look like I know what I'm talking about even though I probably will not.
