  1. I think Centerforce clutches are horrible. Also, when you guys say "stage" this and "stage" that, what are you basing the stages off? What company are you reffering to when you mention "stage"? Ive run several models of centerforce clutches on the street and on the track, and ive always ended up getting rid of it and reinstalling this one old Nissan OEM clutch ive had for 5+ years. Even old as hell, the Nissan OEM clutch never let me down. Its been run on the track and street ever since it was new. Centerforce and their weight technology isnt worth anything to me. Money spent on a Centerforce setup, is better spent at a local friction material shop on a custom clutch, or save yourself $100's and just go to your Nissan dealer. IMO, the original poster has no reason whatsoever to run a Centerforce clutch. He just "bought a 280zx 1980" and wants a "race clutch"? Anyone needing a race clutch, would have enough experience to figure that out on their own, and wouldnt be posting asking about "race clutch" on a car he just bought. Just like Tony D, i digress.....
  2. You could have, and should have posted this in the non tech forum. Thats all im going to say.
  3. Nobody says "implicated in any accidents", "signed and notarized" in a craigslist ad. Scammers need to learn typical American lingo.
  4. From someone who has done this several times, please please make sure the cam tower bolts line up and thread properly before wrench/torque them down. The valve springs are going to be pushing up on sections of the cam, so make sure you line it all up correctly and apply even torque by tightening in steps. I completely toasted a couple of threads on the very first head i did a cam on. I thought i learned by my mistakes, but ended up stripping a hole on the second try. That was years ago, but it does happen. EDIT: also make sure you mark and replace the cam towers where you got them from on the head. Make sure you put the bolts back in the same holes you took them out of. Basically keep everything where you got it. Ive put a head together from a bag of parts i got from a friend. I ended up having to take it to a machinist to have him determine where the cam towers went.
  5. Gollum has some great points... BUT I would recommend swapping your auto for a 5 speed manual before you do anything else to the car. A manual trans will really wake up that L28 and make you say WOW. A manual would really change all aspects of the car. Braking, turning, just driving in general will become very stimulating.
  6. Oh wow im glad you reminded me there. Ive never encountered a junkyard that makes you buy the whole rear crossmember when all you need is the control arms. Every single junkyard ive walked into over the last 10 years, ive taken anything ive wanted and nothing more. As for letting the heavy heavy diff hang from the rear mount while the crossmember is out, thats not advisable. You do know theres rubber in there, right? Linchpin, if you need later rear control arms, let me know. Ill walk into any of the billions of junkyards here in socal and remove them from a 280zx and ship them for you. On your dime of course
  7. No its not. If hes just swapping the control arms, thats all he has to do. He can replace the bushings while hes in there as well. Swapping the entire rear suspension crossmember requires removing the diff, suspension, sway bar, etc etc etc big pain in the butt just to change the control arms.
  8. I WANT TO like it, but shes so stupid it just kills the buzz.
  9. Is it just me? No matter how friggin sexy this chick Vida Guerra is, she just kills it with her ditzy stupid personality? Sometimes this show is good, like when they talk about paint and pinstriping, but i think overall this show is a huge waste of air time.
  10. Tomorrow morning in shipping a 280zx fiberglass body kit from MSA and a spoiler for $80 to IL from CA using Greyhound.
  11. You guys got your pic on your passes? HAHAHA thats sweet! Im so happy you guys had a great time! Did you guys happen to see Danica Patrick?
  12. Sorry you cant make it. Thanks for being honest. Have a good time Trevor!
  13. I was doing some night canyon driving here in SoCal after a Z meet. I slammed the brakes on and the box holding my brake fluid and all kinds of crap flew all over the car. The brake fluid bottle went down under my brake pedal and gas pedal. That wasnt very fun, going about 60mph and trying to find a way to get the bottle out so i could drive the car. Ever since then, i dont drive with anything unsecured, even in my truck behind the 3rd row seat.
  14. Sent you a PM, waiting on Calgary to respond to offer
  15. Calgary and Luk, do you guys want my full access passes with Pacific Coast Motorsports for this weekend's IRL race? I was supposed to fly in, but i twisted my ankle really bad at Cal Speedway last weekend. PCM is the team that Mario Dominguez and Frankie Muniz race for.
  16. Just wondering....ill make it worth your time.
  17. I was doing the ford 5.0 swap into my 280zx, but my neighbors friend offered me an awful lot for the motor/trans/ecu/harness, so i sold it on the spot. Its a great setup, small...light, have fun!
  18. Dan, A friend of mine is running around in a 280zx with a hood spring from a mid 80's Buick welded to the under part of his hatch. He had the car painted afterward and i swear is looks stock. When he pulls the stock hatch release by the drivers seat, the hatch pops up nice and quick.
  19. The VG30ET idea has been beat to death on the Pathfinder forums, all of them. Its reported, not my personal experience, the turbo will never fit. I need that instant torque to the axles. The turbo idea just sounds like a recipe of shredded tires and busted axles when the boost kicks in.
  20. Yeah im rock crawling up in Big Bear mostly. Its just seriously low on power. Im looking for a parts late model Chevy S-10 with the 4.3 V6 and driver side drop transfer case. If its all the same as completing the swap in a car, ill just follow the guidelines like so.
  21. I fully understand the CAR smog hoops we need to jump through in order to be a hobbyist in CA. My question is about truck engine swaps. This is what i know. In a passenger car engine swap, the motor needs to come from another passenger car, not truck. But does CA say anything about truck to truck engine swaps? Im asking because i have a '90 Pathfinder with the VG30E. I went on a 4wheeling run with Jeep guys and a Unimog today. This is the last run im going on with the friggin VG30. I cannot stand the lack of power, and in order to run 33" tires to gain clearance, im going to need a more powerful motor. On http://4x4parts.com , they sell enthusiast insipired swap mounts for a SBC V8 or 4.3 V6. They also have mounts for a Buick V6. Is the '90 Pathfinder considered a truck, or a passenger car? Im not familiar with the classifications California gives cars. If i chose to swap in a mid 90's TBI 350 out of a Suburban or other Chevy truck, will i be able to pass inspection as a legal swap? Thanks in advance. I know the smog thing is a beaten to death subject here, im just opening another chapter asking about truck to truck swaps.
  22. You can always tell me where its at so i can go pick it up and part it out. I always have the time and space. Save you some stress....
