Now here’s a question for the cognoscenti: why do so many drag Z’s on racingjunk have Dana 60’s? I would have thought that a 9†or 12-bolt would be the more natural choice.
A dana 60 is tough but heavy, It will cost more to do a good 9" over a Dana
If you can keep the heads on it you can put more boost to it and make more power.I know what you mean about spending money and not going faster. You can always find a deal here and there. My 414 sbc was old sprint car stuff as far as the short block went. I got an aluminum block 3.8 stroke crank and a set of Carrillo's for less than a after market iron block. Going from a N/A sbc on gas to a blown BBC on alky, a little of a learning curve there but it should be fun. Should get it sorted out in the altered and then may put it in the Z for a pass or two for some fun.
On my old back halfed car I ran a 14X32X15 goodyear with a stock wheel well, but to get them on and off I had to let the air out of them then air them back up when they were on the car

Got the chassis back together seeing about a funny car cage so I can cert it below 8.50, they changed the rules on us. I used to be good to 7.50 with out a funny car cage now it is only good to 8.50 without a funny car cage. Changed a couple of things on the engine and it should go a little faster now. Got a funnycar chassis that is certed to 6.00 and will cert below that if I want a yearly tag instead of a 3 year tag. Putting a blown alky bbc in that with a 32 bantan body over the funny car chassis. It should go in the high 6's but I have to wear a /20 suit, gloves, boots ect with the Bantam. That thick suit is going to suck when it is 110 in the shade at Famoso
The wife just got me a new puter I will see if she can do some pictures. I am not a puter person but I can hold my own with engines and a chassis. There were some pictures of it going over at gasser maddness when I was running the b/gas nostalgia stuff I will see if I can find that.
Dr Hunt forget the turbos, forget the nitrous, forget the alcohol, Forget the fuel injection, Blowers, multable carbs. Don't see em in the 8's yet. Old tech sbc from 1955, single carb, on gas with a glide. 8.46. LOL...
Got another project going also at this time. Picked up a 32 Bantam, funny car chassis, floater rear, beadlocks ect. Have some old friends that have their old blower motor from 1975 that we are going to put in it. Last run at the winter nationals in 1975, 496" flat tappet cam with a 6- 71 blower on alky. Ran a 7 flat @ 200 back then. Going to update it and put it in the altered. Looking for a 6 second pass at over 200 with it. Going to make the old Z seem slow. Still love the Z, never going to give up on it.
There have to be other people that need to update their times. I miss the chat section also, maybe we will get the time slips and the chat up and running again.
