  1. omg some ppl here need to take thier foil hats off and let the guy ask some questions...isnt that why the internet and THIS COUNTRY is so great...FREEDOM OF SPEECH???? not bashing anyone, just speculating...

I think that is the last thing that everyone says right before they get the boot :)

I am just a moderator of this group, I don't worry about kicking people, but these discussions never end in a good way when they involve talk of "banning", anything political or an insistence on democracy/freedom of speech.

My 2 cents: the topic was quickly deleted from msefi.com because it is a very technical site and I am guessing that any talk of EMP in the past has lead up to a wacky thread, just like this one has been at times. So this time they just deleted first and ask questions later.

I am not saying EMP is always a wacky topic, just like the mating habits of baboons is not wacky to the scientist that studies it. But in general it becomes wacky when released into forums like this.

  2. At this point it seems self-explanatory why this topic was deleted from msefi.com

With talk covering nukes, terrorists, government conspiracy, aliens, time travel, Mr. Fusion, Faraday cages, etc.......

Unless something useful concerning EMP is discussed I see this thread also being deleted, locked or moved to non-tech, but I will leave that up to the administrators.

  3. thanks for the update on Hi-Res code. I have been watching it for a couple weeks but haven't put it on my Talon. I think I will do it given your experience. I am running 850cc injectors so idle and warmup has been a bit of a problem.

  4. My car would buck until I set decel fuel cut to 100%.

The restrictor sounds like more of a band aid fix that will cause slow MAP reaction times that could affect other areas of tuning. I think I would discuss it more and see if you can just adjust the megasquirt to fix the problem. Also let us know what the reasoning was behind using the restrictor, maybe it is a valid concern in your setup.

  5. personally believe in the rule of thumb that if you want a 400hp engine to last 200k you need to build the bottom end for 800hp.

According to the equation in Corky Bell's book to go from 400hp to 800hp increases the forces on piston/rod/crank by around 18-20%(I think that was for a V8). So you saying the rule of thumb is to build the bottom end about 20% stronger than you need? just razzin you

  6. I saw a SBC race engine once that the pistons hit the electrode, but here was the deal. It was a huge domed piston and if the plugs were not indexed to keep the electrode up then the piston dome hit them and closed them down. Unless your running a dome piston like that engine I see no way of the piston contacting the plug.

  7. Please use diesel engine oil in your engine.

will do, I have heard that so figured it is easy for the break in.

The supercharger won't work, take it off and give it to me. I'll use it for a paperweight.

I was afraid of that, but it looks really good on there.

After working with turbos for the last three years I wanted to try a SC. It just seemed like the best of all worlds for a street rod/fun car. It does pain me sometimes to know how much more efficient a turbo could be, but I'll get over it. And since my friend is doing turbos on his SBC will we have a neat comparison between the two rods, one with twin turbo SBC and the other with supercharged BBC.

  8. when I tore down my BBC last year it has a copper or brass thrust bushing behind the cam gear, about .030" thick. The machine shop said it must have come with the last timing set that was installed. So I put on my new timing set today and was curious to pay attention in this area. I notice that if I spin the engine over a few times and let the cam float to where it naturally wants to be (no lifters installed) the cam gear and cam moves forward a tiny bit. I can just push it back in until it bottoms on the front of the block, you can see that this mis-aligns the timing chain a tiny bit. I would have never even looked at this if the thrust washer/bushing wasn't there when I tore it apart. Is that anything to be worried about? The machine shop measured the surface that the cam gear touches and says it is factory.

  9. It looks like I will be firing up my 454 with supercharger next weekend to break in the cam. After that I am going to switch over to the EDIS setup. In making the final setup on my engine for the crank trigger wheel and VR sensor placement I noticed an oversight. With the original plan my VR sensor will not be able to fit within .1" of the trigger wheel like it needs to.

The setup on the front of my crank was going to be like this:

harmonic damper > 2V pulley with supercharger register > 1" spacer with supercharger register > EDIS wheel(fits nicely over supercharger register) > supercharger pulley

The idea being that I would machine 1/4" off the spacer (leaving the 2" register at original length) so the EDIS wheel would stack right in, really easy, but..... That puts it directly against the supercharger pulley which is a larger diameter than the trigger wheel. That doesn't leave me any room for a VR sensor unless the overall diameter of the sensor is less than 1/4" (width of my EDIS trigger wheel)

Now it looks like I will need to run 2 half inch spacers with the EDIS wheel bweteen them (still be maching 1/4" inch out of one to allow the trigger wheel to sandwich in).

My big question since I do not have a VR sensor yet: what is the overall diameter of the sensors available? I need to make sure that the 1" space I have between the 2V pulley and the supercharger pulley is enough to fit the VR sensor in between.
