  1. Just to tell you on the fan hitting the crank pulley, I had the same issue and you can remove the front crank pulley. 6 bolts and its out of the way, unless you need to use it for AC or something else.
  2. Also, did you have any trouble welding the stainless or welding to the stock downpipe cast flange? Did you just use MIG?
  3. Ok, that makes sense. I wondered if that was the case, but I didn't want to remove and block everything before finding out. Thanks
  4. When I pull the vacuum on my AAC my idle raises, this is at normal operating temp. So if I remove it I will have a high idle? I have 83 engine so there is no adjustment on the throttle body for idle that I see. Am I missing something?
  5. I know its summer time and everyone is cruising their cars, but is this on the list somewhere
  6. On zcar I had seen a post that said someone dyno'd their car before and after Stock downpipe to madrel bent downpipe with 3 inch exhaust and showed 25hp gain. Don't ask me, thats just what the post said. And I re-read the post today so I know that was the number they claimed for the swap. I need to get a t3 flange also so I can make my new downpipe. BTW, whats the downfalls of using mild steel for the downpipe and NOT having it ceramic coated? Since I saw that it should be coated in the new sticky turbo conversion post. I realize corrosion is probably the biggy.
  7. Just got back from driving the car. Got it dialed right on 10psi. Dynobutt 2000 says it accelerates faster. I'm definitely addicted to turbo. I would say it spools faster now, and definitely pulls harder. Ok, where is my intercooler, bigger injectors, fuel pump, regulator, hybrid turbo, Megasquirt, etc, etc????? I may make it to the track in the next couple weeks which will be interesting since I am still running the 4spd and R180. I am really curious to get a baseline ET before I switch to the 5spd. Did anyone else run their turbo conversion in the quarter with the original 4spd and R180? Right now I am waiting for my neighbor to get back from the persian gulf so I can head to the track with him. He has a nova he races all the time and I think he'll get a kick out of the z car. I have never ran at the track before so I wanted to go with him and see how it all works.
  8. The website belongs to member "z-ya", we need to get him on this thread to address the state of his engine for that dyno. I noticed he has another dyno shot that shows full rpm range and shows 183hp, 211lbs. But I am sure he was continually modding between dyno pulls. z-ya, you out there watching this thread........
  9. Well, worst case if your not is a big hurry you could mail me the 90 degree fitting and I'll drill it for you to .024. If somehow you ended up with a big hole in your vacuum hose you would lose all of your signal and not open the wastegate at all, which in my case since I removed the safety popoff could be bad
  10. I drilled mine .024 , thats the closest drill bit I had here at work. We'll see what happens.
  11. Can't wait to give 10psi a try tonight. I went ahead and assembled the Grainger type controller. Callibrated it at work today. Should be fun....
  12. When I bought my BW 5spd for my turbo car the guy pointed to the tail of the tranny and made some reference to a cooling ring that I would need. What was he talking about? I only know that the yoke of the driveshaft fits in the tail of the tranny. The BW has a metal band around the tail that I haven't seen on other transmissions.
  13. Go here [/url]http://www.sweetspotproductions.com/psanders/images/1st-dyno-chart.jpghttp:// and check out this dyno chart. I forgot who's site this is, but it is a dyno of stock 7psi engine as far as I can tell. Look at how it makes nearly 200lbs torque at 2800rpm. And also how flat the torque curve is afterwards. Like others have said, area under the curve and gearing to match that torque are the most important things for the quarter mile. Have fun..
  14. I doublechecked my R200 that is suppose to be 3.54 gears and low and behold it turns out to be 3.70. So I guess I'll be stuck with that gearing and the BW 5spd in my turbo car. Unless I can dig up another diff that is close.
  15. I bought the 3 inch collector flange. I am pretty sure I can make it fit by slotting the holes. The stock turbo downpipe is just a little larger bolt pattern than the 3inch flange. I can make it work. Should be building my 3 inch exhaust system this weekend. Went ahead and ordered the pipe and mandrel bends from summit. I got the Dynomax bullet muffler.
  16. Oh well, I won't say anymore and just let you find out the fun way, with your own car. But the torque curve of the turbo engine is much different than a n/a engine. There is more area under the curve. I am curious to see what my 240z runs right now with the stock turbo engine and 4spd tranny with R180 diff. It will go a little over 100mph in 3rd gear. It stays on the turbo in all three gears if I run it to 6k before shifting.
  17. will the standard 3inch 3 bolt flange fit?
  18. Anybody chime in here, but I remember reading that a stock turbo in a 240z should run at worst a 14 flat quarter.
  19. The stock turbo engine will make more torque than the 170 of your n/a engine from 3K to 5K rpm. I believe the stock turbo makes around 195lbs torque at the wheels. Life of the engine will depend on your habits. Do you allow the turbo to cool before shutting down, change oil every 2500miles, etc.
  20. Here I set at work again wanting to order parts and not having the car in front of me to measure stuff. Does anyone know what collector size bolts to the turbo downpipe? Thanks, maybe I can get this order out today.
  21. You just wait until you drive it, then your going to ask how can it be faster when my n/a engine was making more hp. turbo=torque
  22. excellent, I just wanted to make sure. It will be interesting to see what happens if you change back to the turbo cam. Holy torque curves batman
  23. I thought I saw in other posts that you are running an aftermarket turbo cam and had some head work done. Not trying to pry, but just checking in case those mods help to get into this torque range.
  24. Alright, thanks guys. I'll get one put together now that the car is running good and we'll see what happens. Boost gauge is on its way.
