  1. Ok, I've posted this twice, but it probably got lost after the site was upgraded. The shafts themselves, not including any stubs outer or inner are the same between R180 and R200. Both sides are also the same. I have a set from R180 and a set from R200 and confirmed on junkyard computer(FWIW) they all call the same part number. Their ability to telescope makes up for any length difference required to fit in the car. Now the stubs themselves that go into the diff we know are different lengths. Now for the caveats, the R180 came out of a 4spd manual car if that matters. http://www.geocities.com/moby_the_van/images/S_halshafts.jpeg
  2. That was pretty much my plan, head to the junkyard and try to get two t3 turbos like the 280zx uses. I think most fords used the same A/R from what I have seen. Get a couple t3's, internal wastegate, low boost. Then when all of that is up and running you can always send in the t3's and upgrade to hybrid turbo if you crave more power. Start with bigger injectors and programmable EFI then all there is to upgrade is turbos, intercoolers, plumbing, wastegates Oh it will happen, I will drive my own V8 240zTT. Like I say, my goal is in the 450hp and then after I get the car upgraded to handle that we will see. I could spend the next three to five years just to get to that point, but the knowledge gained will be worth the countless hours welding and fabbing. I can't tell you how much I have learned in the last year and doing the L28ET swap only corrupted my mind.
  3. And however much time you think it will take, multiply by 10 if you are doing everything yourself I am doing all frame and body rust repair myself, and I like doing it, don't get me wrong. But if your just starting into it, like I was last year, there is a lot to learn. Have fun
  4. Come on, tell the truth, everyone atleast has fantasies about a 1000hp car. Its always fun to dream...
  5. Can you just run two check valves on the pump outputs so they can't fight each other.
  6. My post showed up after Greimanns, I was referring to Grumpy's second link as not budget.
  7. That turbo build sure wasn't a budget type. Looks really good though. At this point I am interested in function and budget build. I'll just use the schedule 40 lp gas pipe for my header construction. Later on when and if I have more money to waste I may be able to buy stainless pipe like that guy. I think it is possible to do a budget EFI turbo sbc in the 450hp range. I think I can put together the entire engine, EFI, turbo setup for 3K. That is budget to me, may not be to the next guy. I also have a lot of parts laying around to save me some bucks.
  8. You know there is only one way to solve this argument. Your going to have to race that supra against his bike.
  9. I have been thinking real seriously of doing twin turbo sbc for my v8 car. The thing is, I want to play with turbos. My idea was to use comp cams baseline turbo cam and then run two turbos at 7psi which would yield around 450hp/450lb/ft. Lots of area under the torque curve, plenty to bust trannies and diffs. Then I would end up with a very nice idling, very streetable, stealth power car. The low boost should give a very durable engine, not requiring high dollar components. In this case hyper pistons and stock rods until I start bumping up boost. Of course I will be fab'ing my own headers, plumbing. Just rambling thoughts......
  10. I am going to use the Megasquirt for sure. The problem is that it is that time of year when i have to do all of my wife's projects. So for the next four weeks I don't have any time to work on the z cars. I have to build an arena for her horses, a deck on the back of the house, an 8x12 tool shed, and put in some fencing so our dogs can be turned loose. After that stuff is finished then I will have the rest of the summer to work on the z cars and I will put the Megasquirt in. So give me about two months and I'll let you know how it works out. The MS will go into my 73 turbo 240. The car is running really good now so I have a baseline before switching over. Of course I will get bit by the "while I'm at it" bug and probably put in bigger injectors, intercooler, new fuel rail, etc...
  11. This one was just a general turbo article I found on the net, kind of interesting reading when your bored http://www.nitrophotos.com/240z/turbo.html
  12. For about $500 I swapped in the 83 turbo engine. Thats pretty cheap I think for the way the car runs now. I am really surprised at how quick the car is. Just my 2 cents.
  13. Well, I sold my KX500 las summer when I took an unexpected jump off a hill in the road at about 50 mph. I decided the bike was going to limit my life expectancy. Now I have a Yamaha Raptor atv. Uh oh, no helmet, hmmmm....
  14. I would like to get one piece of info into this post for future reference. A 240mm clutch from a nissan pickup will not work(at least without machining) because it only has 6 bolts for the pressure plate instead of nine.
  15. Called the DMV today and confirmed that I live far enough out in the sticks that they don't care if I have a mosquito fogger z car, I don't have to get it emissioned.
  16. Righthand picture shows copper board after I applied the toner tranfer paper and screwed up. Lefthand is the etched pcb ready to drill and populate the components.
  17. The MS FAQ says you can make your own boards, if you have a board house make a run they like to know on the group so they know what is floating around. The FAQ also says if you want to build the boards and ebay them that is up to you. OF course I am just doing it for me, so I checked it out first before stepping on anyones toes. Hey Pete, I might have to get you to program me a chip. Mail it to you with some bucks and have you mail it back programmed. If your willing of course.
  18. Like Mudge said, I'm a nerd, so I etched a MS board today. It turned out really nice. I'll take a couple pictures of it. I have never tried etching my own PCB so I thought it would be cool. Get to play with chemicals and such. My boss gave me some expensive toner tranfer paper and we already had etchant. So for $10 I will have to MS boards. Then I have to see if i can order the microprocessor and fets from bowling and grippo.
  19. Ok, thanks. I couldn't remember since it came with the torque sequence, if it might be different than a stock intake. I'll just use stock torque sequence then. I'll tell them at autozone its a marine engine and see what kind of gasket they bring out.
  20. Al Grippo said on the yahoo MS forum that MS kits would be in stock all the time, at least that was the plan. So it sounded like to could buy the kit at any time without having to wait on group buys. I don't know for sure, just passing this on. He just posted this a couple days ago.
  21. 18-20psi, I'm going to have to see your car I'll be up in Denver on Saturday May 17th, if your not too busy maybe I can come buy and check it out. Sounds like things are going good for you on the upgrade. Should be awesome.
  22. It has been about ten years since I installed this weiand 7564 x-cellerator aluminum intake and now I want to put it on my brothers engine. Does anyone have the papers or know the torque sequence and torque setting for it? Also does someone have a part number for a gasket that will work with iron heads from maybe autozone or advance auto so I can pick one up? I know this is simple stuff, but the holley/weiand site doesn't seem to have any info. I tried to email holley tech support and the address bounced. Thanks
  23. nevermind, I got logged out somehow.
