let me ask you this...what times are you running now? how much wheel spin are you seeing? What gear do you finish the 1/4 mile in? I'm only in the low 13's right now...13.44 @105 to be exact, but I'm well into 4th gear at the end of the 1/4 and I'm running the stock 3.54 gears with the BW t-5. I can't imagine that if you were running 3.90 gears even with the regular 5-spd tranny that you wouldn't be switching into 5th on a run with the ET's that you desire...and most guys will consider that a bad thing...maybe some others will have more to comment...cause like I said...I'm not to the 12's or 11's yet..not till I get slicks atleast.

well, if you can confirm that the one you need is the same as the one on an 83 280zx then I've got one that I'd sell you. Maybe theres a part number stamped into it? E-mail me at spork@tri.net if you're interested as I don't always have enough time to get back to this message board. James

Well, last saturday night I was out cruising with my buddies and there turbo cars (mk3 supra,2nd gen eclipse, spirit R/T, and a 94 integra[with turbo kit]) and we'd just finished throwing a new motor in tranny in the integra as he'd blown them both up earlier this summer. Anyways since my buddies integra is pretty fast and I'd never won against him in a race and I'd done some more mods since then and I happened to be running my drag strip setup (around 95 octane with 18-19psi of boost). Well, I never got around to racing him since we discovered a loose timing belt but instead while we're watching a bunch of guys racing outside of town a blue 2000 vette shows up. One of my buddies invited him as he's a neighbor...anyways, before long my buddies get me into a race with him. We lined up, the hands drop and he got the jump on me as my tires went up at smoke. I hit my rev-limiter before I made it even 10ft off the line due to tire spin so I shoved it in second...spun like made, but caught up about even to the vette. From there things were over for him as I pulled on him in both 3rd and 4th and had about a car on him by the time the 1/4 was up. It feels so good to beat up on a $50,000 car...lol. James

not sure whats been done to your cars, but if the integra really had a turbo kit on then I really respect your car. A buddy of mine has a 94 integra with a turbo kit, header, exhaust, and hes running 8 pounds of boost when at the track and he pulls high 13's with street tires and pulled 13.3's on slicks. These cars have wicked 3rd gears...anyways, congrats on the kill. James

RacerX: Any finished pics of the wire frame Z?
spork replied to dat240zg's topic in Body Kits & Paint
got a link to the pics? I'd love to see what your guys are talking about -
you'll probably laugh at me for saying this, but they work as a good drag car too! Pull A turbo 3 motor out of something like a spirit R/T and drop it in the omni and with basically no modifactions other than a boost bleed for a few extra pounds of boost and you've got instant 11's...and one hell of a sleeper too! yup, ATF does the trick...except when I changed my oil last time, I drained all the old oil, filled the care car up with ATF and ran it for about 20 min at idle. The ATF has a lot of detergents in it and it really does a good job cleaning up the inside of your motor, and your lifters. I haven't had any problems with my lifters since. When I was done of course I drained the atf (it now looked almost black) and filled it back up with mobile 1 synthetic. James

well, I just wanted to thank you guys for responding, It sounds to me like this is the way I'm going in the future. I've still gotta come up with the pieces and I like to shop around so I'm sure it'll be awhile before I even come up with a tranny. Once again thanks guys, and I'm sure I'll be talking to you guys again when I get closer to doing it. James

I've got an 83 280zxt with the usual mods (intercooler, rasied boost to 15psi, cold air intake, 370cc injectors, 3 inch mandrel bent downpipe and exhaust, ACT street modified clutch, and of course a lot of little stuff to make sure the rest of the motor is properly tuned for max performance.) Anyways, I've been think about swapping in a 4sp auto like is discribed in the articles section of zcar.com (http://www.zcar.com/articles/twheel/4spdauto/)and I was wondering who has done it, what tranny they origianlly had and how happy they were with the swap. Plus, hows it holding up? and how many ponies are you putting to the tranny? I currently have the BW 5spd in mine and I was thinking an auto tranny would be a lot more ideal for consistant racing and possibly a better overall ET at the track. I want to hear all sides of this, pluses and minus. Thanks guys. plus, is there anything I should know about that this article doesn't include? James

I sure wish I could find race fuel at those prices. Th local track only sells leaded fuel and the only place I found that sells unleaded race gas is only 100 octane and costs $5.75 a gallon...this sucks

are the merkur/svo injectors 35 or 36 pound injectors and what are the cc's? I've heard all sorts of different things and I need to replace one that went out on my car and I want to make sure I get the right one. I've got ones that came on 85.5 or 86 svo. I've heard 365cc, 370cc, and 378cc. I know thats not much difference but I'd sure hate to lean that cylinder out in high boost. To top it all off everyone calls them browntops. are all the injectors the same with people just not knowing the correct #'s? I need to know quick as I bought a set of 4 that haven't shipped yet and I want to know they're right. He said they're 35 pound brown tops, but they're not bosch so I can't check part #s. thanks James

I've got an 83 280zxt currently running 15-16 pounds of boost off the stock turbo, and I was just curious about who out there has done the turbo and nos on thier car? Whats a good way to figure out how much nos to throw at your motor without blowing it up? If any one has any experience on this I'd love to hear about it. I don't plan on doing it real quick, but I've been throwing around the idea for awhile now and want to know whats possible. Do I need to think about tearing apart my motor and dropping in forged pistons and so on? Or can the stock motor handle lets say a 50-75 shot of nos while running 15 pounds of boost. Thanks in advance for the help guys. James

I've got an 83 280zxt and I'm building a 3" exhaust using premade mandrel bends and I want to exit it on the drivers side in front of the wheel so I don't have to have all the turns in my exhuast by going over the rear axle. Has anyone done this? how was ground clearance? did you run it in the transmission tunnel and then out behind the frame rail? Or did you run it infront of the frame rail (right off the downpipe) and along the floor pan and then out? If so, how did it look? and did you run a muffler like this? I've done a bunch of thinking on all of this and I want to use a muffler so I figure I really need to run the exhuast through the tranny tunnel, but I can't figure out a way to get it past the frame rail and emergency brake cable and so on without bringing the exhuast real low to the ground? How much clearance does everyone have between the exhaust and the ground? do you scrape often? I'm thinking that if I'm real careful the best clearance I could get is 4-4 1/4 inches from the pipe to the ground. Any help is greatly appreciated

jamie thanks for the reply. I took a look at the device but the only thing is I was hoping to use my exsisting knock sensor (sinceI already have one on my 280zxt). Does a knock sensor create a certain voltage when it senses knock? like if you hooked up an air/fuel ratio gauge to a knock sensor would you see a result? or is the voltage of the knock sensor too small for that kind of gauge to read it? or is it more than that. Since I don't like to go around and make my engine knock, I really don't know what kind of signal the knock sensor puts out. does anyone know for sure?

you got any more details about the leds? or is that just something you happened to see one time. If so, do you remember where you saw it?
-
I was wondering if anyone has ever made any kind of light(or buzzer) that would come on when a detonation sensor senses knock (or thinks it senses knock). what kind of signal comes off the sensor that shows knock? I thought having something like this would be a nice safety tool to know you need to back off the boost in a situation that the knock isn't really audible. thanks for any suggestions guys.

can't help you out much, but I do know that that little light on the 280zx's isn't controlled by the ecu. there is a little switch hooked up to the odometer that is triggered by one of the teeth of the gears. once it hits a certain mileage, it just flips that switch and the switch locks into place. only 2 ways to turn it off, unplug it underthe dash (thats what nissan says to do) or after you've put a bunch of miles on the car you can pull the guages and knock the switch back into place...only to have it come on again later...sorry I couldn't help you with your actually question tho

sorry, I can't help you on fitting that intercooler in place, but I don't suppose you could tell me the deminsions of it with the inlet and outlet sizes, could ya? I've been in search of a good intercooler for sometime now, but haven't been able to come up with deminsions of the one you have. thanks

egt gauges are only slow if you can't afford a good probe...with a good probe (atleast $100 or more) you should see almost instant reactions on your gauge...much better than the slow reacting "street" probes.
