  1. what pressures are you using as your testing basis? Just curious....
  2. I just use pam cooking spray...lol. Back in highscool shop class thats what we used...it was cheaper than the stuff designed for your welder but works just as good! Plus if you run out...head into the kitchen for some more. James
  3. could you guys do me a favor and measure what the inside diameter of your runners are? I'm looking at building one and am somewhat curious what size pipe is being commonly used. Thanks, James
  4. weld els= steel pipe used for hydraulic/water lines that can be welded together. To get an idea, try this site http://www.sdsefi.com/techheader.htm Anyways, I was hoping someone had made one for an l28 so I could have an idea of how many bends I needed. Anyone???
  5. Actually, HKS makes a multilayer steel gasket for the car...I'm running one on mine. The only thing I'd comment on you list is going to be 2 things...the starion/conquest intercooler (you'll learn to regret it soon after install) and thenusing an FMU to increse fuel. Yes it's a cheap way of doing it, but trying to get your mixture right is pretty tough. Otherwise, the list looks decent.
  6. Anyone made a turbo header from weld els for the l28et? If so, how many of what bends did you use? Do you have any pictures? I'm going to have to order the fittings, so I want to make sure I get enough the first time to minimize shipping costs. Also, what size of pipe was used? Thanks for any info, James
  7. yes, the standard 220-240volt setup will work. As far as the actual electrical outlet, you need to know how many amps are going to be drawn by your compressor(should say on a tag on the compressor motor) and then compare your receptical to see if its rated for the same or higher. If you're unsure of the amp. limitations of your receptical, goto the hardware store and compare. I used a 30amp setup on mine, but I also use it for other items as well (like my powdercoating oven), so I was in need of a high amp handling outlet. FWIW, my 6.5hp compressor has a rating of 15amps. So depending on the size of your's, I'd go with a 20amp outlet and 20 amp breaker
  8. I've got six used dished turbo pistons if you're interested. No clue what the mileage is on them. Email me at datsun280zxt@sbcglobal.net as I'd let them go pretty darn cheap. James
  9. Maybe its time for some forged pistons? I know its an investment...but a damn good one with as hard as you push your car. Just stay away from venolia pistons...if you want to know why, email, but buy anything other than venolia. James Roraback
  10. I don't have any pictures, but a little while ago, there was a 454 280zx that was on ebay...maybe someone knows where that car went if it ever sold.
  11. um...the first one seems pretty darn long...will it fit in your car with pipes on the end? James
  12. Good video! Now, just to remind you about one thing...the 12 sec honda runs a 12 at the track...it would pull a mid 13 on the street tho. Regardless, he still got his ass whooped! James
  13. forrest, I remember reading that post...lol
  14. If all you truely typed was "Dave???" How is he supposed to get anything useful out of that? Just call him up on the phone and talk to him. If he doesn't want to ship it, go elsewhere, simple as that.
  15. looks awesome...any clue how much the guy paid for it? Just curious....
  16. The reason they crack is easily fixed. They have steel casting plugs down the center that in most cases were sunk too far into the head on assembly at the factory. So to prevent this your pull the plugs out and replace them with aluminum plugs and don't sink them past the proper level. Like you said tho, they are a little hard to find, but far from impossible. The guy I mentioned that we're building the omni drag car happens to have 3 of them...lol. That last link is one I'm going to have to do further study of. The idea has lots of possibilities. As far as then neon head, you're right, a dime a dozen and you have the plus of a little more aftermarket support. I'd just hate for someone to rule out the idea of just using the Turbo 3 head if they could find one because the design it just flat out awesome. James
  17. Those motors can be awesome, but why not just use the existing Turbo 3 motor? I know they're a little harder to find and aren't super cheap, but no fabricating needed. Now one plus is there is more support for the neon head but the 16v lotus head that came on the turbo 3 cars is no slouch. I guess the biggest drawback of either setup is fwd. Or is that what that last link was about...converting to RWD??? If so, sound pretty interesting. I've been helping my buddy build an omni drag car using a heavier worked over motor than what was in his spirit(12.04 in the 1/4 mile and looking for an eleven this year) Goinfg for mid 9's in the omni. RWD would definetely make our goal much easier, and possibly allow us to run low 9's. James
  18. Id take the turbo off your hands also. Let me know what I need to do on my end if you decided to sell it James Roraback
  19. I'd try to unlock that wheel first. Rolling weight versus actually draggin a car are completely different. If the brakes are locked up, find a way to unlock them first. It works a lot better to get it up and onto the ramps of the trailer anyways. James
  20. well, I pull 22 inches of vaccum at idle....so I don't think thats any problem there...
  21. I think the big question will be is, when you have 300hp for a few years...how much more will you want? Theres no question that either platform can be brought well past 300hp, but in the long run, the v8 will most likely be cheaper if you wants gobs more power. Me owning a turbo car I'll tell you that I love the rush of hitting 25psi and peeling the tires off in fourth gear. Building the l28et past the 400hp mark starts to get pretty pricey and there aren't near the number of people that have built engines past that point when compared to the small block chevy guys. I suppose you could have the best of both worlds and turbo your v8 when you get tired of only 300hp. Either way you go, we'll do what we can to help you along the way.
  22. definetly stay away from the leaf springs and shackle setup...they're horrible. Not too bad when loaded, but unloaded...you can flip a shackle and the trailer can easily start swaying at highway speeds and causing you to lose control of your truck. James
  23. It reads air with a map sensor connected to a port off the manifold...so there shouldn't be any false air problems, but thats why I was asking to make sure... James
  24. A buddy of mine has one. It's definetely slow but we pulled a suburban up on a trailer with it...I think it'll do a z car and be much happier too. James
  25. I don't have any open spots on my intake as I made an entirely new intake tube...maybe I wasn't clear enough on that. I have un-interupted piping from the intake filter up front all the way to the fresh air inlet of the turbo. The hose from the check valve on the underside of the intake to the block/crankcase vent is still in place. James
