    vette bumper

The normal indents for the rear bumper on the side of the car were filled in with bondo on this car. You have several options, but the corvette bumpers do not go to the end of the indents as the stock bumper does. Just something to consider.

    Custom RB mounts

Custom RB mounts - notice how close the drain tube for the turbos are to the mount?

    Corvette bumper on Z

Rear shot of Corvette split bumper on a 260Z. Notice how well it matches the car?

    RB mock-up

Original mock-up of RB in a Z. Notice how much room is in front of engine? This will not be as front heavy as some have suggested.

    drivers seat/gagues

The wheel is removable and the gauges are all autometer.

Side shot of vette bumpers adapted to a Z

    Pass cage

Note the lower cross bar. The intent was to provide at least some protection while still allowing access to the seat. In a true race car this would be higher for safety. The drivers side is the same height.

Shows the custom exhaust and rear tires. They are 335's

    4bbl carb

Turbo Tom setup with a 4bbl Holley carb. Just a bit bigger than original....

    T-66 Turbo

Turbo Specialties T-66 turbo with modified Turbo tom manifold. Big, but matched well - see dyno plot
  12. Bob_H

    Old dyno plot

This was a turbo-tom setup boosting about 25-28 psi on race gas and a 125 shot of nitrous. Was high 300's without nitrous. Notice the flat torque curve. Yes, it was a blast to drive.

    Rear suspension

Center pipe was for wastegate, ala Ferrari F-40 style. Is no longer there on new motor
  14. Bob_H

    Right Front '72

Holes in hood are for the turbo-tom setup. First hole is "cooling" and second is for the air filter on the carb.

My new Z before its paint job
  16. Joel, So I'm looking at your pictures here of the mount: And I see it is crooked. Does it interfere with the drain line? I assume you ground down the mount to make it work? I had a similar, different problem with my mounts,(they are not Rick Wongs mounts) -Bob
  17. James, If any of those guys who you sold pans to are looking for a pickup, let me know. It is easy to get him to fab several at once while he has the block and my pan. -Bob
  18. Jamie, As soon as I get off my butt and disassemble my RB26, I can take it to the local fabricator for him to fab a pickup tube. If your interested and have about 4 weeks, I can have him make 2. Since there are a few pans out there of this design, I might ask him to make several - depends on how much they cost. And Stony - They were used for gasket availability/etc.. As it was explained to me, the inside bolt patter is the same as the other RB motors, making it easier to source a replacement. We are all working from Brad D's original file. -Bob
  19. Gents, I've been busy with the Navy, or rather the Navy has been busy with me. Work-ups, Deployment, more work-ups, etc... I am only now finding some free time and a new house re-model is taking up that time... I can measure the backspacing when I get back, but you can find similar setups here. They are designed for coil-overs with minimum of clearance. I think Mike, (On3go) has the same backspacing. I want to say 4.5 inches, but that is purely memory. But it has been posted in threads on this site. Joe - you mean you bought a RB? Is it running? For anyone that wants to see the car, I live in Norfolk, VA, right next to Virginia Beach,(about 80 miles east of Richmond). Just shoot me an e-mail and we can work out a time. The car is worth the look - I'm still amazed every time I take a look at it. -Bob
  20. Ken, I own it now. It is now Copper vice purple. The motor was a draw through older highly modified turbo-tom setup. It had a bigger 4 barrel carb and a much bigger turbo. It put 520 rwhp with only 20 some psi compression on #1 piston,(which I finished out). Sans nitrious it was high 300's. What a hoot to drive. I think at SEZ it ran a 11.6 at 132, with about a 2.3 60 foot time,(memory only) Some of the original pics are here: http://www.geocities.com/row4navy/rb26swap/72Datsun.html Interesting, I haven't been on this site for at least a few months and just stumbled on this thread. It is a very well built car to say the least - from brakes to suspension and of course the body work. In the pic you posted, those are 18x11 and 18x12 rims with slicks and the tires on the ground are 17x10's and 17x12's. Just a reference... I am currently taking a 4 week class out here in Point Magu California,(about an hour north of LA). I will be back home to VA in June and the car will be there mid June. It is sans motor right now and I keep going back and forth between the RB26 I have and a well built NA L6. I have no plans to put the old turbo motor back in. Sure it had phenomenal power over a very wide powerband, but I already had the RB and I love the sound of a NA L6. If you have any specific questions, fire away. -Bob Hanvey
  21. Aux, I posted in your for-sale ad. This is the exact same one I have. I guess you can line it up to work with the stock Z holes as Mike has made it work. Mike - what's the status of the Green Z? -Bob (still in project hell).
  22. Yes, I too have seen complete 240Z/etc.. that were turbo'd for less. However you are leaving out some very important facts - they used the stock turbo setup/FI, etc.. Which reaches its limitations well before the power levels this can put out. Shoot - for that matter, if someone brings their car up here, I'll help install it for them as it really isn't that hard. There is one thing they will need to "fabricate" and that is the oil return line to the oil pan. What is also not pictured is the lines for the nitrous from the back of the car to the front. So while it is a "pile of parts", it is similar to a complete kit - no parts missing. Price is always relative. -Bob
  23. Hey Mike, I needed a break from hybridz and my deployment helped that. Man - that picture highlights that I need to clean that oil off the turbo downpipe! Thanks for the feedback on the price. We'll see if it is right. -Bob
  24. Gents,(and ladies), I have put up the Turbo-Tom setup that was pulled from the Purple Z that was at SEZ 3 and ran 131 mph... I put it for sale here: http://hybridz.org/nuke/modules.php?op=modload&name=zClassifieds&file=detail&cat=72&de=779 Here is picture of the entire setup for sale: I am asking $3500 as I have no idea of its true value. The Turbo Tom setup by itself with a bone stock turbo and carb is likely worth about $1500. However the T-66 turbo and all the other "stuff" should bring the value up. It will be a bolt-on deal for someone to produce more than 400 rwhp and likely over 500 with some tuning,(and maybe several transmissions!). The torque curve was amazing on this car and as Cleve told me - while it is an antiquated system,(draw through carb), it clearly works very well and has a great power delivery. Should I be asking more, less or is that about right? I'm not gonna move much from the price as I factored its sale price into my purchase of the car as a whole, (it is getting the RB26dett I bought). But I wanted some feedback on the price as a whole. My personal opinion is it is an incredible deal for a complete package, (minus the shortblock). It even has a virtually brand new turbo. The previous owner ran bone stock turbo short blocks under this car,(I say blocks as in plural because he did roast one or two while tuning the car/etc... it was road raced extensively). Sorry, here is my geocities page with some more pics: http://www.geocities.com/row4navy/rb26swap/72Datsun.html -Bob
  25. That is what I understood. But I still don't think your going to gain much in overall bore dia, making it a very expensive option for minimal gain. Why do you want that much bore? You never said your original goals, i.e. NA, turbo, power levels, what you are doing with it, i.e. daily driver, autox, road racing, etc.. I have seen a 3.1L with 250+ rwhp and 270+ rwhp. Granted the second one is John Coffey's Old Rusty Datsun which has a straight cut gearbox so it sees less losses. But the 250+ rwhp is Dan Baldwins and he does drive his on a somewhat regular basis but does a lot at the track. I have driven his on the track and on the road, and it has great power with really good delivery even at low RPM's. Anyways, my 2 cents is it is not worth it. -Bob
