  1. Yea, it would need to be in the next week or so. Thanks though! -Bob
  2. Tried the helper list, noone in miami. tampa was the closest that i could tell... -bob
  3. RatedZ and I are buying an intercooler from a guy in Miami. We are looking for someone we can send our money to and get them to pick up the intercoolers and then ship them to us. Basicly an intermediate to ensure we aren't getting ripped off. -Bob PS-post here or e-mail me please.
  4. I like Tim's idea alot. Anyone in Miami? But on a second note, COD only. If he wavers, tell him fat chance. I'm not sending money to a guy with nearly no feedback,(not to mention the questionable bidding issues). I may not have helped asking him to do COD, so we'll see. One thought is to take your postal money order back and get your money,(cancel it). Go to your bank and get a personal check,(a bank check, i.e. certified), and send that to him. Now you have recourse, i.e. tracking of where it was deposited, if for whatever reason it is not recieved. So send it through the mail,(mail fraud recourse), and send a bank check,(know what account it was deposited to recourse). Of course the Z guy in Miami is the best route. -Bob
  5. Z-ya said: Take note that Dan said if cost was an object, triple carbs, if not,(meaning cost is no object), go with triple throttle bodies. My personal take would be to fab a custom manifold, but I'm certifiable,(nuts that is). But bang for the buck the 280zx manifold is hard to beat. Check out the EFI and Turbo forums to see what guys have done to the stock manifold to support higher power levels. And for the cam specs, if you go with Sunbelt, they will spec a cam for your intended usage, which sounds like it would be very similar to Dan's. Last, why the GT-R pump? That flows I believe 195L/Hr, and most of the aftermarket pumps flow 250+. I only know because I am putting the stock GT-R pump on my car and need to watch it as I bump up the hp. And a heads up that the MSA 6-1 header has some mismatch issues and will likely need to be ported out. Check the exhaust forum for more info on that,(ask John C if you can't find anything). The NISMO header, while ~$300,(read expensive), is a fairly proven item. But the 6-1 is still very good even if it needs some work. -Bob
  6. Pics and more info would be great! -Bob
  7. Ratedz, Ask him to do COD. I just sent him the info for how to set it up for COD, so he should know now. Do a Bank certified check. If the item is not as he said, cancel the check before he gets it. you don't have that option with a money order. I wouldn't get too worried about it. COD is a bit safer and if not what you ordred, and you act fast, you can cancel payment. I think you'll be fine so don't fret. -Bob
  8. 90% race? And only a 270/280 .470 lift cam? Why? Why not go for something like .500 lift, 300 duration? If you are serious about power, I highly suggest calling Sunbelt. They built John C's motor, and put a cam in Dan Baldwin's motor, both strokers, and produced very good results. I think Dan paid on the order of 1000-1500 for his head work,(he had them do some minor port work, setup the cam, etc.. money very well spent in my book). But this?: Twin downdrafts? Why? The intake charge has to make a 90 degree turn, then a 45 and another 45 before it even hits the regular intake manifold? Not only that, you have the myriad of jets to deal with. If you are going to deal with jetting a carb setup, stick with the sidedrafts is my suggestion. Dan Baldwin can give you a rough ballpark for his cam/head and sidedrafts. I can provide you with a guideline for 40mm's and the cam you are using. My suggestion? Full EFI with a standalone controler. You have far more control over the motor and its fuel with FI and something like SDS vice carbs. Better idle, likely better response, etc.. And the E-31 being the best for carbs? That is like saying is a Chevy best for towing? It really really depends on how it is set up. The E-31 in "stock" form has smaller valves and a somewhat restrictive design. It is a closed chamber design, but a fair amount of work must be done to realize the horsepower available. The N-42 on the other hand is fairly good right out of the box. It depends on your experience with Datsun heads. By your questions, I would say not very much, so I would suggest leaving that to someone else. Rebello is an option and they most certainly know what they are doing, but I personally prefer Sunbelt. They have their new cam profile and it appears to be working very well. If I wasn't switching to the RB motor, I would have a Sunbelt prepped head on my Z right now. Take a look at Dan B's dyno charts,(posts here as Dan Baldwin). Pretty impressive for a stroker. With all the above in mind, here is my suggestion. First, you already have the bottom end taken care of. Cylinder head, get one from Sunbelt. I suggest a N-42 prepped by them to yield the CR you want and the powerband you want. Expect ~$1500 for that cost, but money very well spent in the end. Next, I would suggest FI with either the stock 280Z/ZX manifold or some custom setup. There are lots of guys here who have monkeyed with the stock FI to get more power, mostly the turbo types so ask on the turbo forum,(or the EFI forum). You can bore out the throttle body to get a bit more aiflow, plus fit larger injectors. That coupled with a speed density or MAF,(a bit more expensive), system will work wonders. I think you could find 250+ hp with that setup, likely near 300 if done properly. -Bob
  9. Very true. I suggest the F54 for the 3mm overbore solely based on the fairly large amount of material that is being removed. My thought has always been that the siamesed block will have some extra material, at least between the cylinders. The hope is that translates to more material all the way around. To an extent it is wishful thinking. However, I would be surprised if the rigidity of the block is not impacted and the siamesed block helps minimize that impact. Again, only refering to the large 3mm overbore to get the "3.1L"-Bob
  10. Hmmm, looks like my motor minus my P-90A! (well, I sold it so I don't have it anymore) First, where are you located? Second, what are his overall goals for the motor? Last, you realize the KA24 pistons are not always flat-top and will mostly likely require some milling....been there and done that. First, the E-31 isn't really suited for the 3.1, esp. not with a 40cc combustion chamber. You realize that is a VERY HIGH compression ratio? Is this race only? What is his budget? Those all factor in on a very large scale to what the end result will be. To do it for the cheapest route, I suggest the N-42 head with a good size cam and decent fuel supply,(carbs or FI). I'll reserve suggestions till we know more about what this guy wants. -Bob
  11. Hey man, did you pay turbofan17 with Paypal for the intercooler? Just checking as he wants me to send a money order and claims he doesn't have paypal. It was starting to sound too fishy to me. -Bob
  12. Scottie, Thanks for the input. I have pretty much come to the same conclusion, but will still buy the NPR. Follow me on this one. I am putting the RB in my current Z while I do a suspension swap to a shell I will pick up in the next week or so,(the GRM budget car refered to in the buy/sell). I will use the opportunity with the RB in my Z to work out all the electrical and running bugs. I won't push much over stock boost, maybe up to 12 psi or so. I will only have stock injectors,(440cc/min's), so 400 flywheel hp is about the limit. The "donor" should be ready for the RB in about 3 months. By that time, I can get a proper intercooler and sell the NPR for what I have in it, maybe more,(I am getting it for $275 shipped). In otherwords, it is a good temporary fix while only pushing 300-350 rwhp max. When I outgrow it, up for sale it goes and in goes a proper one, a quick and easy fix. BTW, the guy I am buying from say's it is 2.5 inches thick with 3 inch inlet and outlets, vice the 2.25 thick and 2.75 inlets/outlets you measured. I'll guess that remains to be seen. I'll bet it is a 2.25 inch core. -Bob
  13. Food for thought, on the first itteration with the RB, I won't have a muffler at all, just a straight pipe back,(or a dump out the side). Since I will only be on track, it shouldn't matter,(well unless the track has a noise limit). Even then, a twinturbo setup shouldn't nearly as loud as a unmuffled L6,(but the L6 sounds awesome unmuffled). -Bob
  14. So all this good info and noone has done any testing on pressure drop with it? Oh well. I would not be at all surprised to know that those were stolen... Think about it, 20x ~250-300 each....$5000+ for just polishing the end tanks, oh, and jumping fences. -Bob
  15. Quick break from the game. He appears legit, as he has sold a few others. I just questioned the bid shilling,(bidding on his own items). I can't really prove it, but assuming you get yours, and he offered me one outside of auction, I'll still report it as I think it is shady. I'm looking forward to seeing how it fits. He just told me it was from an Isuzu truck, nothing more. I think they want to protect their "investment" and not reveal the exact model. I'm gonna do some searching on Monday to see what is available around here at the local JY's. Ok, back to the game, Tampa is about to score. -Bob
  16. Here is a picture of the Saab 9000 intercooler. One of the pics shows it next to the volvo intercooler, so it is rather large. Only drawback,(besides unknown psi-drop), is it is 1.5 inches thick... Saab 9000 intercooler -Bob
  17. PS- here is the previous auction from the same seller: E-bay $227 intercooler (and if you look at the bid history, turbo_0 was the first bidder). -Bob And here is the trail I have followed: Turbo_0's intercooler auction #1 And if you look at the bid history of that one, turbofan17 is in the bidding.....again, same background in the picture... More to come... Right now I can't get into the E-bay rules and such place. When I get to where it lets you chose a topic, it won't go past the first main topic to the subtopic. all other area I can select them....odd. Another turbofan17 completed sale...again turbo_0 in the bid history...both in miami: Turbofan17's sale and another turbo_0 auction, but turbofan is not involved, but same picture: turbo_0's auction
  18. I said especially if I can find one for less than $225. In my searching around on the two posters,(the one doing the auction you are bidding on), and checking the guy who pumped up the price in that auction,(turbo0 or similar), I found another finished auction for $227.50. So I figure the range is 225- less than 300. I think this guy buys NPR's,(again, noone has really verified it, and he/she didn't answer in their e-mail back to me),polishes the end tanks, and puts them up for sale. I did something sneaky in my reply to them. I had asked if the measurements were absolute end to end, or just the core. Their response was from tank to tank. Which still leaves me wondering exactly what it was and they hadn't responded to what vehicle it came from. So I wrote back asking if it was end of outlet pipe to end of outlet pipe or start of tank to start of tank. I also said that I had bid on their other auction,(which is the other name). We'll see what they respond. Bottom line, they are bid shilling,(pumping their own bid). I got suspicious when I saw on your auctions bid history that the same person had bid numerous times with noone else bidding.... I think there may be the same thing going on with the other auctions,(a new unregistered user with no named location). Speaking of which, how do I find where someone is registered from,(what city), if they have no auctions? I tried the member search and it just said United States. So noone has any figures on psi drop or exactly which one this is? The pictures I got from scottie's site show the "large" NPR as being a slightly different inlet and outlet,(he had the "large"). -Bob
  19. Dude, what are you doing for a search? I gave you what will reveal tons of info about that search. The only difference is it is in a 240z. What applies to a 240 will apply to a zx, as the engine mounts and space are the same. Let me show you. Just putting 7M-GTE in the search box reveals: Link #1 with link to tony's page Another one with mock-up pics and how he made the mounts: Another 7m-gte Tony post And: More 7M-GTE info and pics This isn't funny. And then, with the info I gave you, that his memeber number is 1614, plugging that into the search engine for this forum alone,(ignoring turbocharging forum) produces all the same links with less fluff. And that is only this forum. Sorry bud, Tony is the only guy to have tried this, and that is why I pointed you to that. -Bob search class is now over
  20. Ok, did the search, and turned up vauge answers on this forum. Did the Google search and turned up nothing. I have heard 1.5psi,(but not at what input psi). I know scottie you lost nearly 7psi to get 20 at the throttle body,(however it wasn't clear in those posts if you found another source of a leak, as I find 7 psi to be a bit excessive...) So for 350-400 rwhp, are we talking ok? The following item is one I am considering, esp. if I can get one like it,(the guy has a few for sale), for less than $225: Ebay NPR? intercooler Ratedz,(from here), has the top bid on that one. The other he is selling,(two e-bay names, and appears to be bidding up his own auctions)...is the same one on the same background. I am assuming since it is close to a 3 inch outlet, that it is the "large" NPR. Or do you think it is from some other truck? I wrote and asked him what it was from, so I'll let others know. I like that both inlet and outlets angle up and out the same amount. -Bob
  21. So is that for sure the "large" NPR intercooler? I did write the seller asking about it. BTW, he has sold one or two others, and it appears he is bumping up his bid prices by having two accounts. If you look at the bid history, turbo0 or something like that bid on it like 6 times. Ok, go to that name and look at what auctions they have won.....hmm, same type intercooler, same background,(hung on garage door). Smells fishy to me. I'm sure he sells the product fine, but he is clearly bumping his own price by the way I see it,(both are in Miami, FL). I bid on the other one he has for sale,(3 days left). I'm gonna watch closely to see if the seller of the one you are buying bids on this one.... -Bob
  22. Simple. Do a search. I don't mean to be mean...but it not only has been covered, but there is a recent topic about it. Tony Fruzza has built one up for his car. Search for his name. Actually, his member number is 1614. I just gave you all the info you need. Good luck. -Bob what can I say, I feel nice today, it is Sunday!
  23. Here is what I am talking about: Hump hoses Is there some advantage to not having a straight transition from one pipe to the next for intercoolers? I am assuming same size for each pipe. What about necking down? Just curious here... -Bob
