  1. Never mind the 944 with the LT1, I want that garage!
  2. Awesome Flames! Is that paint, or arson. I usually don't care much for flames, but if i could paint like that my zx would be flamed!!
  3. Actually, some drag cars and a lot of circle trackers use a direct front pump drive with a valved bypass. that operates like a clutch. this saves the weight of a converter. Of course they usually do this to powerglides. Another option for a drag car is to go with a small (8") converter. I thought about doing that with my th350. but most 8" converters that I have found have a really high stall (5000 +) so I am going to just direct drive the pump. Now does anyone have any ideas on a paddle shifterthat will work on a full manual valve body?
  4. Great pics! Keep them coming, they're answering a lot of questions for me. Joe
  5. I keep seeing posts about Z31 hybrids, how many people, besides me, are building them? IMHO, it seems like there should be enough to have a pretty good info base. Joe
  6. I don't know about the car, but in the mid '60s Jack McClure did the quarter in 7.3 seconds at over 150mph on a Rupp go cart with two turbonique rocket engines. Talk about cheap power, look at this: http://www.almar.easynet.be/turbonique.htm
  7. Here is something from the"There is nothing new under the sun department" Check this out. http://www.the-rocketman.com/turbonique.html
  8. I looked but summit doesn't have iron gears, but Jegs does. But now, armed with your information, I think I will be off to the junkyard in the morning. Thanks for the help. Joe
  9. Just got a steel drive gear for my Vertex. It only took a week from the local parts store. When I got it home, it turns out to be about .008 to large for the shaft on the magneto. I am at a total loss as to what to do. The guy at the parts store said that MSD, was a lot cheaper than Vertex (Which I had ordered) and that of course all the gears were the same. (I guess that i should have taken into account that he also9 said that Taylor doesn't sell Yellow wires) Can anyone tell me how long the bronze gear will run on a cast cam? Not that I'm upset, but if anyof you happen to have a few kilos of weapons grade Plutonium to spare.......
  10. My Gawd, those are beautiful. If my wife gave me a set of webers, I'd find some way to raise my engine. and throw away the hood so that everybody could see them!!
  11. Thanks guys, I think I'm going with the Carter. After all, no matter what anybody says, "Size (of my checking account) counts!"
  12. I am finally geting ready to get a carb. and I am looking for some input. I've narrowed down my choices to either a 750 Carter AFB. or an Edelbrock 750. I could use your collective advice. (Actually, I still want Kinser stack injection but I'll have to make due with a carb for now) Thanks, Joe
  13. Can anyone tell me what the gear ratios are in a nissan (Z31) automatic? Also what diff ratio is most cimmon with the automatic?
  14. I know nearly nothing about corvettes, but I found this while looking for something else. It sure looks like it is a b*tch for strength. Does anyone know anything abuut these transmissions? I can't afford one, but they sure look interesting. http://www.zfdoc.com/index.htm
  15. I think it was an aftermarket unit. There was a site, I think it was http://www.bomgarden.com, but I could never get it to work. good luck
  16. Has anyone had any problems puttng a Stealth Intake on a 350 with L98 (113 casting D-port) heads? If you have, I sure could use some advice. There is a ridge on the heads above the intake ports, that the valve cover sits on, and the manifold won't fit under it. I am about to get out the grinder and re engineer the manifold.
  17. Some time back, I remember that there was a guy that did this swap, but I never could find his web sight. I do recall that he used a T5 and a hydraulic throw out bearing. that might save you cutting up the floor pan. (just a suggestion) Joe
  18. What are you doing for headers? I hear a lot of people with older z's talking about exhaust clearance problems with the steering, is it the same in a z31?
  19. Oh boy, picked up the rotating assembly this morning. Spent the afternoon sizing the rings. The heads will be back by the end of next week. and the cam will be here in a few days. Desk top dyno says 375 hp @4500 and over 400 lb of torque all the way up to @5000rpm. Life is Good.
  20. Let me be the first to say welcome to the best board on the net! Although I can't help you find a yard in the bay area, there are a lot of members down there who will no doubt give suggestions. I bought my engine through, a classifed in a little want ad paper. I got a 350 with a 350turbo hydro for $150. You might want to check them out. If you shop around, you can find engines that are out, and sitting on the floor. Good Luck Joe
  21. If it has four wheels, it ain't a motorcycle. that means you wouldn't have to wear a helmet. I think its kind of ugly, but the chevy powered "boss hog" is just as bad. Just MHO.
  22. Once again I have come to the right place to learn the facts that I need. Thanks everyone for your input. Looks like that gear set is going in. As for the noise, back in the sixties, I ran a Halibrand quick change in a little ford coupe, and it really howled!
  23. Does the term "Better Business Bureau" ring a bell? I ran a tranny shop for several years, and it sounds like these people are just doing you. A GOOD builder can go completly through a transmission in a couple of hours, and make it practically bullit proof. When I was in the business the R and R guys would take less that a half hour to pull and replace a unit. So IMHO you ought to get in touch with your local BBB! Good luck
  24. Has anyone had any experience with timing gear drives? I've been through the search function and haven't come up with anything. Is there any major difference in performance or durability?
