  1. Look at the SS mufflers made by flowmaster and spintech. Spintech has sosme pretty interesting stuff. Also get on the http://www.drgas.com site and follow some of its links.
  2. John at Johns Cars has a Z31 roller at his shop for development of an LS1 swap kit. He also has a 280ZX roller. Maybe you guys should start bugging him about developing them?
  3. I had a friend who competes a Sunbeam tiger send me this same link yesterday. Amazing! What I am really interested in, though, is the adapter for the floor jack that allows it to pick up on the standard pick-up points on the Z. Yeah - yeah - I know - I could just tack weld that part from a Z jack to the floor jack. but for me, $20 would be worth it because then I could use either insert and use the jack for multiple functions.
  4. Man - can I identify wit you! I had a rat living inmy Z also. The difference was that I was driving it daily to work and the car was kept in the garage at night - never outside! Anyway, one day I saw him and was able to "Governor" him as the California guys might say.
  5. Yasin - WAY TO GO!! You know - who really cares what they say - the car has a two page write-up in a nationally distributed magazine. Heck - Mine's been in two magazines and the total space doesn't even add up to a full page. Do what my wife did - take the cover of the magazine and the article pages and have them matted and framed & hang it on your wall somewhere. Talk about bragging rights!!!
  6. I you are running at a constant speed and your fuel pressure drops then it is one of the following: 1) the fuel pump is screwing up and either not pumping or not getting suction properly (cavitating) Air bubles would be an indication of that. 2) The fuel pressure regulator is screwing up. It is a spring/diaphragm type? Maybe there is a hole in the diaphragm or the spring is screwed up. (air bubles could be an indication of air coming inthrough the pressure regulator) Then again - where are you measuring the fuel pressure? A guage generally only measures pressure downstream from its location so look at stuff AFTER the gauge to see if there is a problem there.
  7. I'm with Matt. I don't want to be around anything that would consider me as a light snack.
  8. Are you road racing the car? If you are just daily driving with occaisional 1/4 mile track use then I wouldn't worry too much. If you are really concerned you might want to look at the Arizona Z Car front A-arm asemblies that include a drastically revised T/C arm. Any experience from anyone here on those assemblies?
  9. Mike, The '98 Camaro LS1 in my Z Dyno'd 311 rwhp & 326 lb-ft of torque. Hotter day, K&N cone intake - behind the radiator - and shorty block huggers eventually into a single 2.5" exhaust. I think the key was that the ECU had been edited to 2001/2002 specs. Might want to consider that? Not allowing for wear - you should be able to bump yours up to around 325-330 hp & 340 lb-ft of torque.
  10. I really don't think the LS1 is that much more than the Ford 302 - especially given the difference in the technology levels. It also is lighter than the L28 or the 302, develops more HP and torque, and gets better fuel economy than the 302. Aftermarket parts are becoming plentiful and pricing is no worse to better than the 302. It's kind of a pay me now or pay me later thing.
  11. My engine was originally from a 4L60E equipped car so the whole clutch & flywheel assembly is new. John will get a chance to look at it sometime next week and will probably be able to identify the source. It didn't have it when the conversion was initially completed so something has changed.
  12. Thanks Mike. I guess the good news is that the problem existed BEFORE I went out to Texas Motor Speedway.
  13. The vibration occurrs around 2500 rpm on the engine -in first gear, in second gear, in third gear, etc. It does not occur at a particular automobile speed which would be driveline related or possibly wheel balance, alignment, etc. It does not occur under light load but under moderate load and higher. It is not present below 2,000 RPM and it does not appear to be present above about 4,000 rpm - in each gear - whatever speed I may be going down the road.
  14. Yeah - and according to the write-up in the magazine - PHriggin' PHast!!
  15. Interesting - shift pattern is the same as a T56. I think the wheels on the prototype were 19-20" so rotors are probably bigger than you think - but then again - at 2,850 lbs. they don't have to be huge to get the job done - especially for the average consumer. Again - that is why there are guys like us. Another thing - it's a Pontiac - wait a couple years for them to work all the bugs out of it and then buy one two years old for 1/3 off.
  16. I just got a copy in the mail today. They have not yet hit the newstand. Magazine is dominated by the old classic european sports cars but check out page 52 - The only Datsun Z car in the magazine - and it's a HYBRID!! Guess who's
  17. Couple things. I don't believe the 280ZX is nose heavy. I axled my '83 model and it was 1430 lbs on the nose and 1450 lbs. on the rear. The difference in weight between the engines is probably only 100 lbs. Also, the springs and struts on the 280Zx, if they are original, have probably lost some of their spring. Take a look at tyour car from the side. If it looks a little low in the rear then your springs have definitely sagged with age. I'd do the drive train conversion and then think about new springs. Once you know where it sits you can decide on the route you want to follow.
  18. I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. Personally I think it has great potential. If I could buy a modified bucket with the 350Z headlight in it I probably would. Get better lights and aerodynamics all in one package. Much more practical than the bucket lenses the aftermarket folks sell.
  19. Hey Spot - you need to change your signature block now that your baby is out of paint jail. It is once again a regular JSR member!!
  20. So if you had 40 cars show up it must have just been raining lightly - right?? Seriously - sounds like great fun. 40 cars for an area that size is an excellent turn-out. They can be real attention grabbers. We went out on a tour with just 15 cars in caravan yesterday and really turned a lot of heads. I had the only V8 so took the standard abuse from the other guys but held my own - especially since I had the only gen 1 car with an adequate AC! Ran into the second 350Z guy in 3 weeks that had cratered his motor. The first one did it after adding an ATI procharger. This guy did it with a bottle of nitrous. The stock VQ35 just doesn't handle any aftermarket "performance enhancers".
  21. Just to toss my 2 cnets worth in. I ran the Porterfield R4-S pads that I got from http://www.livermoreperformance.com with the Toyota upgrade on my car at Texas Motor Speedway. I changed the pads a month ahead of time but evidently still didn't get them fully seated. I had to pit 20 minutes into the first 30 minute session with smoke pouring off the right front. They were ok after they cooled and survived the rest of the day. I will say that the pads, after 115-120 miles of racing, were 50% gone and the edges looked llike they had melted. The fact that the rotors were blue confirms they saw some pretty high temps but survived. Remember, though, this is a car with combined car & driver weight of 3100 lbs so they got worked hard.
