  1. Nope. I don't remember which car it came out of as the Camaro one was designed for a sloped firewall where the Z has a vertical. E-mail John@johnscars.com and ask him. I don't think he's into reselling that part and he'll probably just tell you. Otherwise I'll look at mine and see if I can pick a part number off it. Had to change the hole pattern a bit to bolt it up. Not the same as the Z. Also had to relocate the windshield washer bottle & pump to in front of the radiator as the GM clutch MC unit was longer than the Z's and needed the space occupied by the washer unit.
  2. I was bleeding my brakes last night in preparation for a Track day and noticed that the inside edge of all my tires were obviously more worn than the rest of the tire. Car suspension sorta stock with the Nissan european spec springs (1/4" shorter than stock), KYB gas struts, and urethane bushings. It does NOT have coil-overs or modified upper strut mounts. It appears to be a camber(?) problem? But why would this appear?
  3. In my case the engine was a pulled engine so it came with wiring harness and ECU - both of which had to be modified for the Z installation. GM master cyclinder in place of the Nissan one and the clutch works fine. All new line/hoses. Fuel system - I kept the stock 280Z tank, vapor system, and hard lines but obviously needed another pump for higher volume and pressure. Mounted in the same location as the original pump. Lines were rerouted inside the engine bay up and over at the firewall because of the different fuel rail inlet location on the LS1 vs the L28. Vapor cannister mounted inside the passenger side front fender well.
  4. Mike - I spent a lot of time researching that and they will fit. They are only 6 1/2" wide though so technically are narrower than BFG would like. I guess it won't matter too much as long as you're going in a straight line.
  5. Lady in my Z Club has eight parked at her house - and all are the full-sized real thing. Oh yes - they all run and have current tags & inspections too.
  6. OK - Let me do a "me too!" I have nearly 7,000 miles on my conversion now. I use the car as a daily driver. Gobs of torque & HP and 20-22 mpg in combined driving witht the T56. John actually performed the conversion on my car so I not only got to see the workmanship in his parts but also the work ethic of he and his folks - they are top notch. Very meticulous and think things through. I'm sure we'll all be able to answer any questions you may have. Even though the base components are the szame each conversion is a little different, LS1, LS6, T56, 4L60E, 280Z, 240Z, etc.
  7. Yeah, there are two of us in the DFW area too. Lone Star 1 over on the east side of Dallas and me on the east side of Fort Worth in Arlington. I think the word is slowly filtering out. I also know that Zfan has his 383 powered 240Z up in the North Dallas area. A lot of folks still think the cars are turbo-charged (sport compact mentality) but they still know the cars a fast. I majorly embarrassedd a couple guys in an IS300 this weekend. He tried to keep up but I pulled him in 3rd (60 mph start) and then just vanished when I hit fourth.
  8. Go to http://www.zcarparts.com and order a catalog. Several other after market suppliers plus your local Nissan dealer or car parts place can still get a lot of the parts you may need.
  9. So Spot - that must have been taken at the paint shop - right? I don't remember your garage having quite so much space in it. It sure is looking nice although there seem to be some huge voids - like where the engine goes, the interior, the headlights, etc., etc., etc. Remember, no sympathy and no rest - work!!!! Hey - this is only half the story!! Now what we need is a photo of the other love of your life.
  10. I got a triangulated set, front and rear, from Top End Racing. They are not adjustable. Both front and rear, I had to jack the car to get the wheels off the ground, remove the two bolts that the braces bolt to, and then loosen the third bolt and allow the suspension to lower in order to get them on without slotting the holes. It worked and they are really tight but I'll have to reverse the procedure if I ever need to take them off or risk stripping the threads on the top strut mounts. This procedure worked for me because my car had never been in an accident and is very straight. Anyone who has a car that's been wrapped up a bit will have a real challenge with the Top End braces. that is where the adjustable rod end versions would be a Godsend.
  11. What's cool in Arlington/Fort Worth is that Don Davis Nissan is giving a years membership to the Cowtown Z Club to the buyers of new 350Z's at their dealership. The club has just relocated its meeting place to the Mercado Juarez Restaurant at Matlock & I-20 which is very close to Don Davis and a nice place. Hopefully that will encourage a little more 350Z participation. Our next meeting is the second Thursday in May - the 13th. Our website: http://www.cowtownzclub.org is up but having technical difficluties at the moment so there is not much there and what little is is not current. More work to do.
  12. This is probably the guy that called Tillman an idiot. Actually though, It's a photo that took second place in a safety magazine survey of the dumbest things people did. #3 was a guy in short seeves & shorts standing next to a hazmat team in full hazmat gear investigating a spill site - First place went to a guy who constructed wooden scaffolding that was attached to the side of his van that allowed him to climb about 25' into the air to change out light bulbs in street lights.
  13. Another point of interest is that the few SCCA professionals I've talked with have all said that the Cobra kit cars are the most dangerous, poorly handling, vehicles they've come across on track days. Not saying one can't be built right but evidently most people don't.
  14. Go to http://www.military.com and read the article there. It has what I consider to be the better perspective.
  15. Nope - you just ran across one of the semi-knowledgable 350Z drivers that was actually cool. I've met a few myself and have been working within my Z club to "upgrade our image" to attract more of the 350Z guys. It's important to get them included as the 350Z is part of the future of the Z car and to the clubs that support them. It's also important to get them involved to maintain dealership support of the clubs. I look at it as a "mission field" to try to educate these guys & gals and bring them into the fold. Of course "educating" may include a little "schooling"
  16. I read one of the more recent Sport Z magazines where they compared three "boosted" 350Z's. The one thing I came away with was that the fastest one through the quarter mile was still slower than my LS1 powered 280Z. Haven't felt a real need to prove anything since then - especially with the NA versions. Don't get me wrong, though, I think the 350Z is a great car and the long-term plan is to get an automatic equipped roadster for my wife as a daily driver and weekended for the both of us. Just won't ever race it.
  17. I made a run at lunch yesterday and ended up beside a silver 350Z. The driver looked to be about 30 - kind of yuppie in dress, haircut, etc. Anyway I gave him a smile & a wave and got the standard blank stare in return. Jeez, I wish these guys would join the club. A little while later he came up beside me again - guess he heard my exhaust - and did a "power demonstration". I didn't even bother -I just watched him go and let him be secure in the knowledge that his 350Z was superior to the old 280Z - NOT!
  18. Know what you mean. Had a guy in a metallic blue Dodge Ram follow me for about a mile this morning until he could get along side and eyeball the car real well. Had a big number 12 on his back window so he's obviously a NASCAR fan.
  19. I'd suggest just fixing the original motor and taking good care of it. Any swap will cost you more than someone who is half-broke should be spending on a car. Keep your education first and save worring about building up the car until you're out and have a steady income. Use that time to investigate your options and calculate your costs. Use the search function on this site.
  20. Must be a Canadian thing because even out here in Texas - and we know how Californians love Texans - I get excellent service. I've gotten a carpet kit, seat cover kit, mirror kit, Aero II ground effects kit, european springs, turbo muffler, console cover, complete seal kit, literally dozens of urethane bushings, and an autopower roll bar from them. The only thing that has been delayed is the cover for the roll bar because it had to be back ordered - which I was told when I ordered it. I called and talked to them yesterday, it's supposed to ship next Monday so I ordered another console cover to go with the 83ZX while I had them on the phone. Compared to other organizations I've dealt with over the years I'd rate them near the top.
  21. Entire Family in '92 Chrysler Town & Country mini-van - traveling vacation - 4,800 miles in two weeks. As usual - I did all the driving. Or - Dallas to LA with entire family - 1,300 miles in 31 hours total (including one night in a motel) & I did all the driving.
  22. Bill, It must have something to do with the name. They did the same to me. Same routine. Otherwise - I've been dealing with them for years and have had excellent service. Bill
  23. Well - if you are feeling really guilty - I can help you out.
