  1. I ran 3.90 in my Z with the L28 and it was great for the NA motor. With th eLS1 (311 rwhp) and the T56 I'm running the 3.70 LSD. I would consider that even a bit high. A 3.54 or 3.36 would be better as 1st gear on the T56 overwhelms the tires with the 3.70. It is great in the other gears though!
  2. Been getting in mine every day for the past year. Twist key and it goes "MAZDA!" You know, vroom, vroom, vroom Never once have I had the 'click' of death or any other drive train problem. The only wrench time I've had on the car since I got the engine in it was to install the strut tower braces, roll bar, and retorque the headers a couple times.
  3. http://www.racetep.com They provide multi-point front and rear strut twoer braces. I have them in my car. They are a very snug fit and non-adjustable so your car better not be twisted in any way or it will be very difficult to install them.
  4. I was on the way to a salvage yard to get a grille for my son's Bronco II today when I passed a guy in an older Chevy pick-up that had quite a tirade stenciled on his back window that ended in "Imports suck". I went on past him and on to the yard and got my part. On the way back to work I came up next to the same guy again going the opposite direction. I noticed he had an Ameican flag sewn on the sleeve of his shirt - no - not a postal worker, fireman, etc. At this point I began to worry a little. Anyway the light changed and he decided he wanted to cut me off so I couldn't merge into his lane duee to some road work ahead and tried to outrun me. Didn't happen. He probably really hates imports now.
  5. Actually, one of the cleverest things I've seen was the guy who ducted his intake back through the firewall to the fresh air intake area for the climate control system. That essentially gave him cowl induction without modifying the hood in any way.
  6. It's called AADD - Adult Attention Deficit disorder - Guess you never did get it answered, did you? BTW - I got into it with 3 'Vettes in the last 18 hours - a C-5 that was lots of fun because he wanted to play, a Z06 that was a real quick shot, and a C-4 that was just a power demo. Oh yeah, that isn't the question you were asking, was it.
  7. I ran against a mildly prepared Z06 at Texas Motor Speedway and there was no comparison. He smoked me. Better cornering, much better braking and all the while able to listen to a much better sound system in a generally quieter car. Accelleration was close but I still got passed!
  8. I log in , click on "Posts since last visit", go through the first page and when I click on page 2 there is nothing there and they all disappear from the individual forums too. I've been experiencing this for about two weeks now. Since I haven't been on the site since last Thursday there were supposedly 5 pages of posts - 4 of which I can't view now without searching every ost on all the forums.
  9. If you are running in th e12-13 second area I think you may need a drive-shaft loop but I doubt if they'll check for it. Just make sure you have the seat belt, shoulder harness and an approved helmet - no motorcycle helmet. Remember - for time trials reaction time doesn't count but it figures big time in seeing who gets to the end first. If you have a standard transmission you should be slipping the clutch out on the last yellow, don't wait for the green. If an automatic try to nail it halfway between the last yellow & the green. I believe they are on 1/2 second intervals so it will take some practice. If you have street tires stay away from the water box - your treads will fill with water and screw your traction out of the hole.
  10. Are you absolutely positive the booster is bad? Have you verified that the vacuum line from it to the engine has no leaks? Personnally I would prefer to have the assist. It's no fun standing up in your seat trying to get stopped if a "situation" develops. My '77 has it's original booster and it still works fine so it may pay to check around for a salvage vehicle that would have a donor for you. Why invest time and effort to make your brakes harder to use?
  11. Say Gary - I noticed that you're still claiming completion of the Quicksilver project in July of 2004? That's just a week away No pressure.
  12. I stand corrected! Gary forwarded me two photos of Pauls car which confirmed that someone did do what I was looking at doing - and that the parts existed out there. Later he was able to confirm the muffler mfg., Dynoflow, which, as it turns out, was the muffler and X pipe manufacturer that had been recommended to me down here by a shop that specializes in LS1's. Once I knew that it was full steam ahead and a week later the install was complete. One minor point Gary - it will be stealthy until you dump it - then there will be no doubt what lurks under the hood!! It is such a sweet howl though.
  13. Not yet. Haven't had a chance to put it on a lift since I got it done and the computer with the camera software on it is in pieces thanks to a Father's Day present from my kids that backfired.
  14. For those you that are working on LS1/LS6 conversions and planning a single outlet in the stock position I would recommend using dual 2 1/2" pipes, a frame clearance tube from Dr. Gas on the passenger side where it clears the rear suspension, a Magnaflow PN# 10791 X-pipe, and a Magnaflow PN# 12158 muffler. I just installed this on my 280Z28 and it is really sweet. Deep, mellow tone. Quiet at idle and quiet inside the cabin at cruise speeds (60-80 mph) and a really sweet sound when the rpm rolls up above 3,000. The X pipe improves engine scavenging and helps with the noise level a bit.
  15. OK - the buzz has been located - plus a bit. I took the car to JCI and found where the hand brake mechanism was rubbing against the torque tube assembly between the transmission and the differential. Working on a solution for that. Yesterday I had a new exhasut system installed. It has a full 'X' pipe with dual 2 1/2" pipes to the back to a magnaflow muffler with 3" out. While doing the work the exhaust guy discovered that the exhaust was loose on the passenger side where it bolted to the header. He could move it back and forth about 1/2" but, surprisingly, there was no signs of exhaust leakage. Go figure. Anyway -the buzz is now gone and I have what has to be one of the sweetest sounding LS1's on the planet.
  16. check this stuff out: http://www.ceramicadditive.com One of the coatings (click on ceramic insulating paint and then primers-sealers)has an extremely high moisture barrier rating plus it is a sound deadener and heat insulator. The site has links to testamonials. You would think this stuff rivals the second coming of Christ from what everyone says about it. My only problem is that I was unable to find hard, definitive numbers on its performance.
  17. I think Mike is lonely for a Z up on jackstands. Kind of like a sailor and his girsl - he wants a Z on jackstands in every port.
  18. Altima V-6. Reasonable price, 4-doors, reasonably roomy and the same basic engine (VQ35) as the 350Z. You can get wone with automatic, AC & the V-6 for around $25K.
  19. Maybe some of the Western Pacific members can answer your question. The 240K was never sold in the US so US members will probalby not be able to answer your question.
  20. Cool - you got August in Grassroots and I got July in Classic plus several guys got into Sport Z - This is great! That's great about the 2004 challenge. You going to enter the 2005?
  21. Yup - you wetcoast guys need to keep track of each other.
  22. Dang Grumpy - I turn 56 this Sunday so I'm even older than you are! That really makes me feel old!
  23. first Saab I ever saw was the 3 cylinder 2-cycle one made back in the late 50's. It was a hoot to listen to. rrrrrrrrr - ring ding ding ding - rrrrrrrrr- ring ding ding ding.
