  1. John, would you care to share the spoiler angle and the dimensions of the blade? What's the row of holes along the top for? wicker bill? John
  2. Gonna use the 383 or LS-1? Either one would be nice. John
  3. What kind of crank is that? Are you sure it's even a 4"+ stroke? It's hard to tell for sure in the pics, but that looks a lot like a cast crank to me. Even though it's not what he said, there's still a lot of parts there. I would probably try to negotiate the price down and start a fresh build or part it out. John
  4. Aw crap.......I thought this was gonna be pics of that badass Mopar..... John
  5. Track events are a huge ball. It's amazing how much you learn and how much fun you have. You guys are killing me. I can't wait to get to go myself. John
  6. You might check your timing light against a known good one, esp. if it's a dial back. It really sounds like cam timing to me. Are you certain you were on the intake lobe (2nd lifter) and not the exhaust lobe (1st lifter)? We won't discuss why that one comes to mind. John
  7. Yeah, that's pretty much the way it goes. Glad you guys had a good trip with good weather and no bad deals. I had a very theraputical weekend at the beach, nice weather and a good time. TriZ/THSCC is a great group to go the track with, they do a good job. I'm going to try and make the Apr 9-10 trip to the south course, either of you interested in that one? John
  8. Did you verify the mark on the balancer and the timing pointer are correct at TDC? That seems a likely suspect. John

    Jtr Ls-1 Pics

Forecast for Danville, Va, Sat Feb 12: 27 deg. You guys take your long underwear, have a good time and bring the car back looking like it did when you took it! I'll be in therapy.......... John
  10. What a bunch of junk. 200hp???? Reading crap like that makes me appreciate the good tech we have here. Happy fifth, HybridZ. I just hate I missed the beginning. John
  11. After reading Kim's post, and recalling similar posts made here years ago, I think it comes down to Kim being ego-offended that the JTR modifications have become wildly more popular than "the conversion he engineered twenty years ago". It breaks his heart to see someone else's idea better received than his. With all the different uses, different combos, and different owner preferences, I just don't see how anyone can make such blanket statements condemning one method, yet he acknowledges those differences, then makes those condemnations. It's a shame his ego is so fragile. John
  12. John, what weight are you shooting for after it's ground? The weight of the total assembly, flywheel, disc, and pressure plate is the most imp. thing. My total weight was 28#, and it's a major diff from stock. John
  13. If you mean by 50/50 split coming off the master cylinder with a line to a tee and then a line to each caliper, for each end of the car, that's exactly what you do. The proportioning valve placed in the rear system will let your control the F/R split. John
  14. You should measure yours to be sure. If you ordered and received the wrong size because you were too lazy to measure what's on your car, you would feel like a real dumbass. John
  15. John, I've got a 15# flywheel in my car. The rpm changes so quickly when you mash in the clutch and let off the gas that you have to be very precise to shift smoothly. It's great on the track, the thing will explode off the corners, but it's touchy on the street. John
  16. Zerrari, I've got a 60 over 283, I think that's a 292, if you're interested. I'm in western NC, so we're not that far apart. John

    Differential

Noise is kind of a subjective thing; the solid mount is going to transmit more noise to the interior, but whether it's enough to make a difference is up to the individual. I would try putting some rubber in if possible. Welcome to HybridZ John
  18. No way you're going to put a 440(big block) crank in a 360(small block). There is a 4" stroke crank available that makes a 360 a 408, and putting a 440 crank into a low deck 400 for 451cid is also a popular swap. John
  19. Lots of people run the full depth RA-1's for street tires or rain tires, full depth as opposed to buying them shaved for AX or OT use. jt
  20. There have been millions of discussions about which bore/stroke combo yields the best results. It boils down to this: If you want a 302, build it. You won't be happy till you give it a try. jt
  21. We discussed getting S&S to tweak the 5205's in this thread, but I don't know if anything's started yet. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=97989 I'd buy a set at a reasonable price, and a lot of people said they would also. jt
  22. The RA-1's are a harder compound than the Kuhmo's. The RA-1's don't have as much grip, don't wear out as quick, and don't heat cycle out as quickly as the kuhmo's. jt
  23. There was a big write up in the local paper about the Charlotte cameras. When the city council approved them, the big sales pitch was that money from the tickets was supposed to go to the local schools. BUT: The cameras are owned by a private contractor who get something like 78% of the revenue. The city is soaking up the remaining funds in "administrative" expenses. The school system has yet to see the first penny, after three years of unconstitutional red light tickets. Now they're starting doing the same thing with speeding tickets. JT
  24. I ran a set for 90% track 10% street, and they did very well. More grip than a pure street tire, lasted well, good turn in and feedback. Since mine were mostly track I can't say how many street miles, but I ran them 12 days on track. Check Bob Woodman Tire in Charleston SC as a source. jt
