  1. I've been looking all over for a new Mass Air Flow sensor for my 77 280z and everywhere I look all the Air Meters are for 78 Z's and 79+ ZX's. My Question is, will a 78 280z mass air flow sensor work perfectly fine on my 77 280z? In particular this one? http://www.ebay.com/itm/SMP-STANDARD-MF4211-Mass-Air-Flow-Meter-MAF-/200739876366?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3A280Z&hash=item2ebd076e0e&vxp=mtr#ht_1852wt_1177 Please, Any help is greatly appreciated.
  2. okay thanks guys, when I have some time off work i'll try and work on it. I talked to a fuel injection specialist and he said to make sure none of the hoses are pinched, all are replaced with new, and use carb cleaner and soak the injectors over night to give a through clean. Also he told me that when you replace hoses air gets in the rail and your supposed to bleed the system, well I didn't, so that can also be the case. my plan for the weekend is... -Pull fuel rail -Through clean of rail -Replace all bad hoses -Soak the injectors and use a light wire brush -Replace the injectors and rail -Make sure everything is tight -Bleed the system -Get a few gallons of gas -Prime the fuel rail -All new oil + filter -New radiator coolant mix And from there, If I have any understanding of my own car, I'm pretty sure it will be back to life
  3. And if you ask me (and my brother who was standing by) it sounded like the car was running on one cylinder when I started it up. The engine shook more then normal, enough to shake the car a little more then usual. And another thing, the car just DUMPS smoke out the exhaust. its white smoke. Has to do with oil and i'm afraid i'm burning oil and can possibly throw a rod if i continue to try and get the car running.
  4. Let me try and be a little more clear. My car ran fine last weekend. It just had a little hole in the injector hose and leaked a small steady stream of gas. The hose was old and likely to burst anyway. (It's the number 1 injector. The closest one to the fire wall) //This morning I pulled that half of the fuel rail off and replaced the hose on the number 1 and 2 injectors. //The Pintle cap (i think its called) was broken on injector no. 1 but I paid no mind and re-installed it. //Is that why my car isn't holding idle or revving past 2000? //To me its the only answer because its the only thing I fiddled with. Now can someone tell me if it IS the Pintle cap and can I replace it for cheep? Or do I need all new injectors?
  5. All the plug wires are correctly connected I know this for a fact. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the injectors because it ran almost perfect before I replaced the hoses.
  6. The past few weekends I have been trying to get my 77 280z running so I can register, smog and drive to work. I've replaced all the spark plugs, plug wires, rubber fuel lines, oil, and some other small things. First start and it fired right up and ran well with a idle problem (probably MAF). But well, hears my problem, one of the hoses on the injectors had a small hole. So today I decided to replace it. When I pulled the injector the little brown colored cap where the gas comes out was cracked. But I just quickly looked over that, Replaced the hose and put it back together. When I started the car it didn't want to start, then when it did I had to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running. It idled at maybe.. 300. then would die. It didn't sound like it was firing on all cylinders and a cloud of white smoke was coming from the tail pipe. Also I checked to see if there was oil, unscrewed the oil fill cap and a little smoke came out of there as well. I am honestly lost for words and confused to a whole new extent.. Whats wrong with my car and how do I fix it?.. please help
  7. Recently(this morning) I got my 280z running after it had been sitting for roughly 7 years. I replaced all the rubber fuel lines, spark plugs, plug wires and fuel filter. And the car started right up. However I did not replace the old, corroded fuel injector lines. I let the car idle for a few minutes and then did a few revs to get it warmed up and back into shape. when I shut off the car I looked to see if any fuel lines broke. None did, but there was some blue-ish, faint smoke coming from the injectors. When you look closely you can see that a small amount of gas seeps through the injector lines. Is the smoke just the gas on the lines mixing with heat? And by replacing the injector lines will the smoke stop? Or is it a bigger problem? // Also, the engine oil and transmission oil have not been replaced would that have any impact on the situation? Any input is greatly appreciated Thanks in advanse
  8. And my car is automatic, does that make a difference?
  9. Where can I find a constant 12v to connect it to?
  10. I have a 1977 280z 2+2 in dire need of engine Tune up. I need a working 3-bolt mass air flow meter. I have 280z Bumpers and Bumper shocks willing to trade(Front and back) I'm in the Temecula area. Send a PM if interested.
  11. That sounds pretty damn important... And yes it was located at the bottom of the throttle body. Where does the wire go? I thought it just ground out to that connector I have in the picture> But it connects to the harness? Where on the harness? And the ground wire, Are you sure that it goes to the condenser? I need help figuring all this out.
  12. Well, first question, what is this? And what is its level of importance? Also, can i solder a new wire to this or do i need a whole new one? I noticed that it grounds to a bolt under the distributor. I'm trying to rescue this car from its life at the junk yard in the High Desert. Its giving me trouble when i try and get it running. Its been sitting a very long time, i'd say roughly 7 years since the last time it saw pavement. // I have a 1977 280z 2+2, original engine. // More info per request. (The paint is 4 months old)
  13. I just checked the spark plugs they are wet, What does that mean? Is it just flooded?
  14. Over the past week in my spare time ive been replacing rubber fuel line. After I replaced the fuel filter I started the car and it idled poorly, i could barely rev it up to 3000 then i died. I noticed that the fuel rail hoses had holes so I replaced those too. But now when i try and start my car it doesn't even fire. Ive tried starter fluid and still nothing. What could be the problem?
  15. As the Title says, I need A working 3-Bolt Mass Airflow Sensor for my 1977 280z 2+2. If anyone knows where to get one cheap(under $200) could you please point me in the direction. Or if you know of someone who has one or even a junk yard in Riverside county area. Any useful information is greatly appreciated. //I have 2 sensors, one 3-bolt, and one 4-bolt. Neither of them work in my car and cant be used as a CORE because they have been tampered with. If you would like to trade for them, or even other parts i'm willing to negotiate. I have both the 280z bumpers and all the mounts. they are just taking space in my garage.
  16. Thank you so much, i'm going to replace all the rubber hosing since most of them have holes anyway, and buy a ridiculous amount of fuel and try again.
  17. hey guys, I have 77 280z fuel injected and i'm having problems getting it to start. Its been sitting for a few years, but i started it up and drove it last year and it ran. So I sprayed starter fluid in the intake and it started but only for a second. So, naturally I believe its a fuel problem, I'm wondering what this is, and if i blow into it is it supposed to be free flowing of restricting letting little to no air through?(in this case, gas) also, I'm confident that the fuel pump works because i can hear it when i try and start the car, but just in case how can i test it? hear are some pics,
  18. My 1977 2+2 (sorry about the previous post, file didn;t attach)
  19. Can these headlights be be installed in my stock 1977 280z with no wiring upgrades? Except the possible on/off switch for the O-Rings. http://www.ebay.com/itm/7-ROUND-H6024-6024-ANGEL-HALO-HID-SEAL-BEAM-HEADLIGHTS-/300702203209?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item46033f7d49#ht_10806wt_944
  20. Thank you guys so much! I'm really looking forward to this conversion.
  21. Do you know when the smog limit is going up? I heard that within the next year a bill will hopefully pass saying cars 1980 and older wont need smog. Is this true?
  22. 280z Twice Pipes, California street legal? California smog legal? Are they too loud? I have a 1977 280z and would like to have twice pipes on my car. I have a 3-2 header sitting in my garage and i want the twice pipes to go with it. would there be any significant horse power increase? I know they sound amazing, but will the local cops think the same? I'm near San Diego, anyone in the same area have any trouble with loud exhaust? Are they strict on it?
