  1. Well it just seems like theres no end to the issues I have to deal with. Doing some tuning with megasquirt (which seems to be working well btw) I try and accelerate and bang! I stop immediately, it still idles, but barely. I limp home (parents house) hating myself because I think I've toasted something. I do a pressure test and its strong 120 psi across the board but the 5th and 6th spark plugs are black. I pulled the fuses out of the relay board so that I wasn't spraying fuel during the pressure test and when I was putting them back I notice that all I did was blow a fuse for the injectors. I had the PWM Current Limit too high I think. Anyways, I change the fuse and its running good again, but I'm losing a fair amount of coolant. I drove the car home that night (25-30 minute drive) and my coolant is down something like 2-3L. I'm thinking now that I have blown the headgasket and am burning antifreeze in the 5th and 6th cylinders. Am I on the right track, or is this even possible? btw. I hope to get a good writeup of my project with lots of pictures together soon.
  2. Only for a few hours. Until; Parked the winter car at my parent's place and brought the Z out of storage Thursday night and I have been snowed in since. I had to drive it yesterday and wow - What an handful.
  3. Hahaha I saw that too. My gf didn't understand why I got so excited. She never understands
  4. Hey since when did ME become mechanical engineering?!?! I'm a ME! Mining Engineer!!! And what about Mineral Eng & Materials Eng? Where I come from its MecE, MatE and MinE
  5. I'm also interested, but I'd need at least a ballpark price range before I could commit
  6. I don't have a custom manifold or anything but I do have an L28 with a T3/T04 in a 260 that I could measure up dimensions for you. Do you mean the horizontal distance from the head to the turbo in its stock location? ie. width of manifold
  7. Here's some pics of the completed pipe. BOV Welded with the Durafix stuff and IAT sensor bung with JB Weld. Satisfied with the Durafix stuff. Took about one stick of the stuff and turned out to be very strong. vigorously shook the completed rig by the pipe, pulled and twisted on the flange and it held strong. It was a little messy though. I still have to clean things up a bit.
  8. Thanks, I looked in the manual but couldn't find it.
  9. I have my LC1 WB O2 sensor wired up and making sense with megasquirt but the values I get on the gauge seem to be messed up. I have the gauge connected to analog output 1 (the yellow wire). What values should I have in LM programmer for voltage and lambda (or AFR) for the gauge to be working properly?
  10. Did you ever consider using something like a FWD tranny and mounting the motor in the back? That way you would have more room under the hood to mount the batteries lower and farther back.
  11. I stopped the oil!!!! I beefed up the PCV system with a new valve and also added an oil restrictor in the banjo fitting on the turbo. Welded then drilled out a 1/16" hole. Thanks for all the help everybody. Very appreciated.
  12. When I get a chance I'm going to try using an oil restrictor. If that doesn't work how can I check/test for positive pressure in the crank case? Would positive pressure in the crank case cause higher pressure in the oil pan and therefore higher pressures in the oil return inhibiting flow?
  13. Thats a really cool project. How long do you expect to run on one charge?
  14. Its clocked back now so that the oil flow is completely vertical. It didn't seem to help. Maybe I just didn't run if for long enough. I'm also figuring I could be having problems with the PCV system. Is it ok to just use a filter on the block vent or is it supposed to be attached to the PCV valve? I'm not getting excessively high oil pressures with the block vented to atmosphere
  15. I'm not sure what size the line is. I'm using the stock line for the T3. which didn't give me any problems. Has anybody else had problems using this line?
  16. thanks hughdogz. I'm really excited about it. Can't believe all those tiny parts and hours of soldering actually do something. I worked on the z all evening. I had the center piece (where the oil and coolant goes in and out and where the housings bolt to) a little bit off of vertical and I figured that would be causing some higher oil pressures. so I got it all straightened out and got it all setup and I took a photo. I started the car and it seemed like it had fixed the oil leak. it was idling at 10.3 A/F still rich but a lot better than before. It was smoking a bit, but there's a lot of oil in the exhaust still. I drove it up and down the driveway a few times, bringing it up to just over 2k rpm then down again, it sounded kinda funny when I brought it back down pwsh pwsh pwsh pwsh and then it was idling again at 7.6 A/F ( I think that's as low as the gage goes) I think I'm going to do some research on an oil restrictor next. I'm just worried I'll go to small and won't get enough oil
  17. I'm installing megasquirt right now. I built my own and it took a lot more time than i origionally expected. If you buy a complete unit I don't think it would take that much time getting it set up. There's a lot of reading to do, but that's to be expected with any ems. There's a good install article at www.diyautotune.com ( http://www.diyautotune.com/tech_articles/how_to_megasquirt_your_280zx_turbo.htm ) which also links to an install write up here http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=88246
  18. Hahahaha The thought had never crossed my mind until I started hanging around here now it seems like its just one frustration after another (still totally worth it though) I was running a really simple carb setup but then it was "hey! I should do a turbo swap" then "hey I should do megasquirt" and then "hey I need a bigger turbo" and on and on Hybridz - The cause of, and solution to, all of my problems.
  19. This is what the guy at the shop said too. I'm using the stock oil line feed for the t3 so I don't think that would be the problem. I had to modify the return a bit so I'll start by checking that out.
  20. Plugs are ok. How difficult is it to fix the control ring? Probably over my head but would it cost much to get it fixed at a local turbo shop?
  21. no oil in the intake piping at the throttle body. I didn't check between the turbo and intercooler. I'm going to get try and contact them in the monrning
