  1. Can you give some details, sball? Which model Jag, year?
  2. Thanks, Tomahawk, I won't go to the extreme of making it look -exactly- like a real GTO, but I will try to keep things in the GTO spirit: [*] lotsa (painted) metal instead of the plastic fixtures, vinyl, etc. maybe that fake aluminum paint from http://www.eastwoodco.com? [*]Already started painting things a medium grey, like Aliminum. [*]custom aluminum shiftgate for the A/T to look like a 4-speed, maybe even a pushbutton shiftknob.[*]full-size spare in the back.[*]chrome mirrors, if I can find 2. [/list:u:1d542c19ec]Unfortunately, if you take it to a show, they will look at all the specifics. I just plan on driving it around for fun (my ultimate toy), then maybe pass it on to the kids.
  3. Which flip-top gas caps will fit the GTO conversion body?
  4. As an alternative/replacement to the charcoal cannister under the hood, what other methods can be used to vent the fuel tank without venting ALL the fuel into the air? I'm trying to lose weight over the front wheels and clean up the engine compartment. This thing is a beast at low speeds without the power steering!
  5. So it looks like I would have to get the GTO instrument panel and replace the carpet with the diamond-look vinyl padding over the hump. The shifter would ive the Z away too. Fortunately, there are left-hand drive GTOs out there.
  6. Hey! make one for my GTO, too, except it's a Ferrari...you know, red, Modena...But which ser. #? Make one up? BTW, If it's a replica, does it have to be exact, or is the GTO body on the 280Z & L28 motor enough?
  7. Ohio has the ORC, Ohio Revised Code. It's so big, it takes an hour to find the index!
  8. Can you really change the title to say your car is a "replica?" I noticed my title has a spot that says, "Conversion." Maybe that's where it goes. What kind of stuff would you need to do or show before changing the title to say "replica GTO" ? BTW, did your Talbot mirrors mount on the stock mirror mounts? Mine are so loose I adjust them after closing the door or at every light.
  9. OK, I replaced both front strut cartridges and it stopped bouncing, but started pulling to the right! Got the front wheels aligned too. The guy said he couldn't get it to align correctly and stop pulling right, so he switched frt. wheels and it stopped pulling. Something about "Radial pull." So now the R.F. wheel will still bounces at 32-37 mph. What else can be wrong?
  10. Where does one look in the state codes for the requirement(s) of bumpers? What kind of search terms would you use? Me, I'm on Ohio. I'm sure all of those with the GTO kits would be interested. It would be a shame to have to cover up the GTO's beautiful glasswork with nerf bars.
  11. Add this to the list: umbrella or poncho I suppose you could add: 50 lbs kitty litter dozen candy bars 2-3 pkgs. dehydrated mineral water ?
  12. Are there any compatible sun visors to be found at the Junk yard to fit a 280Z? The stock ones seem to get 'puffy' and unattractive when painted with black spray paint. BTW, what are the clips for above the mirror on the passenger side sunvisor?
  13. Is that the only place you can get those? Maybe a parts catalog or someplace? How would that one fit onto the Z's filler neck? Are the diameters compatible?
  14. Welp, the reason I'm trying to keep things minimized is that I hinged the rear deck between the shock towers so I can make use of those two wells where the back seat would be. It looks ok, but the chrome trim at the front needs a better bolting system. I used blind nuts, which is a good idea, but the holes in the front of the (cardboard) are boken out like a slot, so the whole nose piece might pull off. Too bad there isn't enough room for the battery in the wells- unless you make room.
  15. My turn signal lever on the '78 280Z is funny the way you need to move it up or down to get it to turn on. You also have to pull it back slightly, otherwise it won't engage, and turns off when you let go. Does this mean it is worn down and must be replaced?
  16. That sounds like you guys follow the Snap-On tools truck! I was thinking about minimizing things. Do you actually carry ALL that stuff around in your Z? Actually, Tomahawk's sounds like the best one, but I would add some fuses, wire, and a test light. Maybe something else...
  17. Does that mean you can potentially use any automatic shifter? Has anyone looked into the shifter used on the Lincoln LS? I think it's supposed to have an H-shaped gate.
  18. What other shifters arte there, if any, that will work with the 280Z's 3 speed auto transmission. Would prefer something with a newer look, or just less cheap-looking plastic parts.
  19. What kind of stuff would you want ( or need) to carry in your Z? Already got a cross lug wrench, but what else? Fuses? Tools? What do you get with the original tool pouch?
  20. I had to do some extra mods to the seat tracks: the holes that bolt to the bottom of the seat were filed sideways as needed so that the slots I made in the tracks would line up with the rear perch holes. I had to play around with tightening the mounting screws on the floor so that the tracks remained perfectly parallel, allowing the seat to slide forward and rearward easily. Otherwise, it wil jam on the way back. I ended up tightening all the mounting screws all the way.
  21. Where do you think I got the idea to get one!? Only problem was I was in college(broke) so I had to wait many years to afford one, which didn't exist until I found Blue Ray.
  22. That doesn't hit me as something safe to do. It doesn't look like there's enough room in there. If you go down on the wheel, then you end up tearing the thing out. You could move it to the radiator area, but that will be tough to access, but looks like the best place so far, unless you can get a compact version of the thing. What do cars use today? Is it smaller?
  23. Is it possible to make something the 280Z's charcoal cannister/evaporator can? I was thinking about rolling some (fuel-proof) cloth with activated charcoal, then jam it into a short length of 1 1/2" PVC pipe, cap the ends, then attach the plumbing. The cannister that's in there is sooo big and takes up room I could be using for my power steering pump.
  24. Got my Eclipse seats! From a '90 eclipse, red. First and only one I saw. Seats are light-grey center with dark sides. I screwed in the back hoples to see how it goes. Had to file the holes because the (threaded) screw holes weren't wide enough. The driver's seat was not too high. Not sure if there was a proper adjustrment range, for & aft. I could put the elbow out the withdow comfortably. I think I will try the front mounting holes to see how the adjustment range is. $50 including the rear-view mirror. Anybody know what the foot lever is on the back of the passenger seat?
