  1. Is there anyway to retain the stock speedo and rpm gauge with a RB26dett conversion? I would like to keep my interior looking as stock as possible.
  2. The headlight switch works on the 2nd click (the park lights come on). When I turn it up one more click the headlights don't come on but the park lights stay on. If I click the high beam switch, which is another switch, the high beams come on and the blue high beam light comes indicating they are on. If I click the high beam switch again, it is suppose to turn off the highbeams and turn on the low beams. The low beams never come on. So it seems to me that the 3rd click on the windshield wiper/ headlight switch doesn't work.
  3. I purchased a new headlight switch and it should be here in 8 days. Lets hope that works. I've been searching numerous forums and it seems 280z-280zx have had alot of trouble with the contacts within the headlight switch.
  4. Well I have had my 280z for about a year now and I am not sure if the low beams have ever worked. I bought it from a good guy who claims it worked when he had it. I have replaced both headlights and that didn't work. I have checked the fuses for the headlights near the passenger floor board and they are good. It has a new windshield wiper/ headlight switch. Both high beams work but the low beams don't work. Are there any other fuses that i could have missed? Everyone is telling me it is the headlight switch but i can't find any for my model year (early 77' 280z).
  5. I have had my early 77' 280z for about a year now. The original owner told me that the headlights worked. Since i have had it the headlights don't work on low beam but work on high beam. I have replaced both of the headlights (was told to by "Mr. Autozone" because they were burned out). I still have the same problem. I believe the original owner because he is a great guy and it is a full restoration. Does anyone know where all the fuses that would need to be replaced are at? I have checked the fuses that are by the passsenger floor area and they are good. I am stomped and don't know what it could be.
  6. Anyone know of any shops located in texas that has done the RB26 swap in Texas? I'm about ready to purchase the motor and McKinny supporting parts.
  7. Sorry to hyjack your thread, but does anyone know of any shops in Texas that can do a rb26 swap?
  8. Thanks for the reply! By looking at the pics it looks as if the rims would fit around the caliper. I wonder if anyone else has the same problem with the front hubs not fitting?
  9. Anyone out there have the toyota 4X4 vented brakes with a set of rota RB's. I recently purchased a set of brakes and I can't use them with my 14 inch rims. I will be purchasing a set of 16 or 17X7 with a 4 mm offset and was wondering will it clear the caliper? Also do I need longer wheel studs with these rims? Thanks
  10. I purchased the vented toyota 4runner brakes and plan on getting a set of rota rb's. Do I need to put in some longer wheel studs with this setup? I need to know so I can get it done when the car is taken apart. Thanks- James

    350z seats

Has anyone here put 350z seats in their 240-280z? Just wondering if they fit.
  13. Can the rb26dett fit in a 280z with the stock twin turbo setup or do I need to convert to a top mount single turbo? Also how much whp can I get out of the stock twins? Thanks
  14. Get ready for some clutch chatter. The twins and triples chatter real bad. I had the twin disc and tripple in my 350z. Great clutch, you will never have to worry about it slipping. The hotter the clutch gets the more it sticks.
  15. Deja- I noticed you have a 280z and pulled off the fin the covers the stock rear bumper. Did you drill out the spot welds and what did you fill the holes with?
  16. Wow, that is a larger difference than I thought. I really wonder if the rb25det is worth it or should i just get the sr20det and some more readily available (cheaper) bolt-ons to make up the hp difference. To be honest 250 lbs is a BIG difference especially in a light old school car. Thanks for the post because this is starting to sway me towards the sr a little more.
  17. I see the 280zx rear brake conversions for the 240-280z on ebay all the time for about 450.00. It states it comes with a manual and is an easy installation but you need to purchase a 240z emergency brake cable.
  18. Thanks for the weight of the SR. Does anyone know the weight of the rb with tranny?
  19. Just want to know the weight difference between the rb25det/tranny vs. sr20det/tranny? thanks-james
  20. My headlight went out today (both). It isn't the fuses, I checked them. They work with the highbeams but don't work with low beams. All other lights work. Any ideas?
  21. When my car is at 2500 rpms it bogs really bad then goes away. It only does this at 2500rpms and partial throttle only. It has a great idle and runs smooth other than this extreme bog. It lasts for a split second but enough to make the nose dive and lift back up. Everyone has told me that it is the throttle position sensor, but I wanted some 280z experience answers. Thanks- James
  22. I am considering the same wheels. I am thinking of going with the 17X7.5 with a 20 offset for front and 17X8.5 with 4 offset for the rear. Does anyone know if this will fit without rubbing. The car is lowered with msa springs. I like the staggered look so it will match my 350z. I would like the rear rim to stretch all the way to the outside line of the fender.
  23. Is the sr20 cradle just for the engine or does it come with a tranny mount also? I am looking for engine and tranny mounts that are already made. The shop that i am having do all my work says it will be significantly cheaper if I can locate these items.
  24. I was looking to do this also will the datsun spirit brackets work with the carbon fiber bumpers?
