i WAS PLAYING WITH THE l-SERIES CALCULATOR LAST NIGHT (oops left caps on) anyhow I have a running L24 and what I assume to be a working L28 if I used the 2.8 crank on the L24 block I get 13.3:1 comp ratio, will this actually work ? or would the slugs go smashing into the head ? I also looked at putting the 2.4 rods into the L28 yeilding about 11.1:1 a more street friendly ratio, but again would it work without smashing anything ? I was gonna do a swap but with the running 2.4 I hate to swap it, if I can make some big numbers just using parts from the 2 motors that I have ? any ideas ? opinions ? suggestions ? a v8 sounds nice and deep but the datsun L6 is one of the sexiest sounding engines ever made, smoothe and raspy, I hate to loose that

I might be telling people something they alreasy know but I just picked up a used howe 7/8 single piston master cylinder at a swap meet and it is a bolt in replacement, just take the pushrod out of the datsun master and put it into the howe unit and put it in, the bolts line up perfect, summit has new ones from 3/4 to 1' all for $55 and it's a perfect fit ! just thought I would share I was excited when it actually fit, no need to notch or drill out holes, or to rethread the clevis as the jtr manual recogmends

Other cars with same offset.
evildky replied to DatsunBoy77's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
first gen supra wheels will fit acording to the jtr book, they even recomend them, rx7 uses a wierd patters like 4 x 113 or 4 x 108 I think, and of course the z is 4 x 4.5" (4 x 114.3), the first gen 300zx 84-85 N/A cars had 4 lug 15 x 7 wheels will fit but the offset is wrong, early z's used a zero offset and the z31's (84-89 300zx) used a +20 or a +30 mm offset, can't remember which -
they will NOT fit, all 4 lug z-cars are 4 x 4.5 bolt circle, as for back spacing not sure what the limit is but a 7 inch wheel with zeor offset fits and thats 3.5" backspacing, I think someone said 4" was the most backspacing you could use

ok so the manifolds will not bolt up, that was the main question, my logic was that a higher compression motor upder same boost wil make more power, I think it was GRM or maybe sport z that featured a green 240z with a draw through carb set up on a 2.4 making somewhere over 400hp, the problem is I have always delt with injection and understand it better than carbs, less tuning and more running, these su's just defy everything I know about carbs which isn't much

I posted thin in the datsun performance forrum then thought here might be better ? so here is a question, I have a 71 240z runs great, but I want major power, was wondering if I could take the turbo intake exhaust and computer and put it onto my 240 engine, my logic is that the higher compression ratio with the turbo and injection should make some nice numbers although on an old motor, I am sure life would not be terribly long but should be fun till then, will the turbo gear bolt up to the e31 head ? am I nuts ? has it been done ? how much power to expect ?

they are sweet but not a daytona coupe or a z that is a shelby series 1, made I think 500 of them in 98-98 I think, they came only in a special ppg silver your only choice was what color stripes, they are way cool to see in person, carbon fiber hood with the daytona coupe rad passthrough, and even snake scales moulded into the underside of the hood with one peering cobra eye near the top, they had the olds aurora v8 and were sold through selected oldsmoble dealers each came with a certificate, signed numbered leather jacket, and a 2 day driving school near the shelby skunkworks in las vegas, first year of production they cost 80k second year they were 120k, I tried like hell to get my father to buy one, he just couldn't see 80k, and of course they jacked the price second year, I have yet to see one sell used for less than new cost, oh well

that is one sexy ast beast, I have always liked the dimes and the flare really look great, I wanted to touch myself
-
well they have a slight bit more flare than the origional metal, not much, maybe they are just a close fiberglass replica ? her are links to more and bigger photo's http://www.gatewayzclub.com/members/dewzenol/images/z%20pics/More%2071%20240z%20pics/imagesinthisfolder.asp http://www.gatewayzclub.com/members/dewzenol/images/z%20pics/71240z/imagesinthisfolder.asp

it's time for everyones favorite game, name that body kit, it has one piece fenders, and one piece quarters that have been put on directly over the rusted quarters, I just bought it, neve messed with fiberglass, what do I need to do here, remove the quarter flares and cut out only rused areas or cut out whole quarter and replace fiberglass panel ? and anyone know what kit this is ? you might recignize my name from the turboford forrum you wont be the first if I can help it some of the others here will know more than I about the rearends but the R200 is a more stout and more common rearend and as far as I know it's the only one with an available adapter flange, so you can use the ford u joints as the datsun joints are tiny, oh and anothe problem I am working on the hydraulic clutch from the datsun has a tiny master and a tiny slave, and the T/C set up is made to use the firewall so, it's out, there is a tilton master and a pull slave a lot of the ford v8 guys use but I am thinking push for tunnel clearance
-
actually I misunderstood the origional post, was thinking he intended to put the turbo set up on L24, I dunno what turbo came on the 280zxt (thinking I heard t28 but not sure) but the z31's came with t3's and made 190 hp @7psi, if it is a true T4 it is not the oe turbo from a 300zx, and a t4 seems like overkill if your only gonna run 10psi ? although I doubt an etra 3psi of boost with only bolt ons could make that kind of hp even with an i/c
-
the 300zxt came with a vg30et which is of course a v6 engine not an L6, the turbo they came with is a t3 and they put out about 190hp running with 7psi of factory boost, these motors are 2 totally different animals, how much boost you can run is different from how much boost you can run or a low compression vg30et, they can take quite a bit of boost and so can the L6 but you are comparing apples to oranges
-
they are also found on 87-88 t-bird turbocoupes frequently called brown tops, check turboford.org and your local pick n' pull
-
how heavy of a slide hammer you using ? I would suggest a 13lb, I got mine out with a 5 lb drilling hammer from the back side
-
get the jtr bood www.jagsthatrun.com and check the faq here and you can search the forrums to answer most questions
-
you could always cut off your shifter and tap it
-
not a swap but I rode in a 93 cobra with supercharger put out like 450hp and 400lb ft of touque on the chassis dyno had a few other goodies too but would keep your head on the head rest

Anything other than centerlines fit 72' 240Z ?
evildky replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
tirerack.com was clearing out kosie K!'s a while back for like $119 each which is a decent price thinking they were 16x7's and fit 4 lug z's -
I have used rebuilt cv axles in escorts stanza's civic's crx's and never had a single replacement go bad
-
so your sure these output stubs just pull out !? I have pulled and preid, the diff is on the floor using a 13lb slide hammer and a 4 foot crow bar and they have yet to budge !? any tricks ?
-
I helped a budy install one in his crx, it is 2 paiced of metal with springs between that push the plates against the pplanetary gears, works marginally at best, at half the $300 regular price still no worth it IMHO
-
I have seen a lot of people mention using the larger clutch master cylinder from an old datsun pick up, anyone know what year this part comes off of, thinking a replacement from parts store would likely be pretty cheap but I need the application ?
-
sorry guess I called the parts by the wrong name, I mean the stubs that go into the diff that the halfshafts bolt to, I can not get them out of the differential housing, I need them out so I can install a lsd
