Just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!! This will be a good year for me thats for sure, I will have my hybrid ZX done by the end of spring and on the road for summer! I can't wait! Thanks for all the help the last few months! Guy
-
So I want to get the full 7/16" ARP studs then, right! Thanks, Guy
-
What is the stock stud size? Also are the studs screw in? I am having my heads ported and polished right now so I can't look at them. The guy (Jeff Ondo of www.ondoperformance.com) building my heads is going to install springs and all that so I am not worried about that since I told him what I was doing to my engine. Oh yeah and what hyrailic roller lifters would you recommend? Thanks, Guy
-
Ok I am starting to get together all of the engine parts that I will need to complete my engine rebuild of my 93' LT1. What I want to know is what do I need to be able to use non-self aligning roller rockers in a 1.6 ratio? I am going to use the LT4 "Hotcam" and hyraulic roller lifts. Also what size of push rod should I use? I am new to the engine rebuilding thing and would appreciate any help! Thanks again, Guy

280ZX Driver side header...Starting to make one!
80LS1T replied to 80LS1T's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Yeah I am still in the process of finishing up my site. I just hope that it will help some ZX'ers in the future. As for the header, I am on my way back out to the garage right now to do the final touch ups on it. Then I will be looking for someone in the area to make it for me. I just hope that it doesnt cost an arm and a leg to get it made! Does anybody have a guess at what this might cost??? Thanks, Guy -

280ZX Driver side header...Starting to make one!
80LS1T replied to 80LS1T's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Well I have got a good start on it. I have it routed around the gear box at the top. Now I have to get them all connected at the bottom. If anybody else tries this I would suggest finding a sold foam tubing and not using the "GOOD STUFF" foam, that stuff is really sticky and makes quite the mess! I tried to find some of those foam pool toys but being winter nobody has those so I had to do it this way instead. I am thinking maybe since I have an extra header that I can use I will get 2 of these custom headers made and sell the other one with the custom one as a set for someone else! Let me know if anybody is interested. I think I will be finishing it tonight. Guy -

Well I think it's done! I just have to wait for the cauk and glue to dry. Then once it's all hardend up I will put it back on and "fine" tune it. Where can I post some pics? Thanks, Guy -
Ok heres the deal... I have a R180 with 3.545 gears I am putting in an 82' R200 with 3.545 gears and doing the CV swap too The reason for the swap is because I am using a 93' LT1 and I building up to about 400-450HP so I figure the R180 wont hold that for too long before it goes. Thanks for all the help! Guy

Well I am going to start to make my driver side header out of foam and coat hangers tonight. Incase you have no idea what I am talking about here is what I mean... I am going to take 1/2 copper piping insulation (actual diameter is about 1 1/4") and fill it with "GOOD STUFF" foam insulation and 2 coat hanger wires all the way down. Then I am going to make a flange for the head and mount 4 equal lengths of this foam header pips on it in the correct spots and bend and shape them so that they clear the steering gear box. I figure once I am done I will send it out to someone (need help on locating a shop that can make headers) who can make this header for me! How much should I expect to pay for 1 custom header? Including to have it thermal coated(Jet Hot) in a chrome finish? Thanks, Guy
-
Oh yeah what holds these in the differental? Should I ask for any hardware with this? Thanks again! Guy
-
Ok, I think I have located a set of CV Joints, set of stub axles, and a set of companion flanges for about $110+ shipping. Good Deal! This is all I should need huh? Thanks for all the help! Guy
-
Hey now take it easy on the non-skilled-fabrication-guys!(is that a legitimet word? ) j/k Yeah I bought that kit from MSA. If you need just the tranny mount I have it and I dont plan on using it since I am using a T56 transmission. $20 and its yours! Guy

So will the halfshafts work or not? Or should I start looking for some halfshafts from an R200? Thanks, Guy
-
Opps sorry mine current differential is an R180 with 3.545 gears. So does that change anything? Thanks, Guy
-
I just got a R200 from a 82 ZXT with 3.545 gears in it. I have a R180 with 3.9 gears in my 80' ZX right now. What I want to know is do the halfshafts fit and if so how? Cause my R180 has a plate of some sort on the differental that holds in the half shafts the R200 doesn't...so how do they stay in???? Thanks a lot! Guy
-
Yeah I'm a moron! I saw 39:11 and automatically thought 3.90. Then about 2 hours later I did the math and realized it was 3.545. Thanks anyways! Guy
-
Oh yeah and if this is an R200 (supposedly 82 ZXT) will my half shafts fit in the R200 from my R180 (80' ZX)??? Thanks again! Guy
-
I would think that it is 200mm right? I bought a R200 from a guy in texas and I think that he sent me a R180. Well first of all he said it was a 3.54:1 ratio and its really a 3.9:1 ratio!! That really makes me mad!!! I think that the 3.9 might be to low of a gear for the my 93 T56 with the .62:1 6th gear. What do you guys think, is it to low? Thanks

T56 clutch pedal problem.......HELP!!!!!!
80LS1T replied to 80LS1T's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Well I asked my auto instructor(fox valley techniacal college) at school today... I told him the problem and he seems to think that because it has sat for so long (about a year) with out any movement that the thrust bearing might have rusted tight or something. So I guess I will see when I take it apart. Thanks, Guy -
Ok incase you dont know... I am putting a 93' LT1 and T56 in my 1980 280ZX. Here's the problem... I mounted the master cylinder inside of the wheelwell so that it would come in the car in the right spot. I am using the master cylinder and slave cylinder assembly from the camaro set up. However I have modified the bracket to mount it in my car. The problem is that I can't get the pedal to go down...I mounted the slave cylinder to the T56 and it wont budge??? I can't figure it out. Isnt this assembly a sealed unit? So how could I mess it up? Thanks, Guy

Idea for ZX Driver side exhaust problem......
80LS1T replied to 80LS1T's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I asked my auto instructor today about this and he said that this isn't a good idea because it will change the toe-out on turns ratio. So I guess I will just have to get a custom header or a rear dump manifold that only sticks out about 2" from the block. How much should I expect to pay for a custom header with a thermal coating? Thanks, Guy -
I was thinking maybe if I noched the drivers side frame rail about 3/4" to move the power steering gearbox over about 3/4" and bang on the inside fender wall so that it would move over a 3/4" than my header will work. Then after I noched it I was going to weld everything back in and renforce the frame rail with some 1/4" flatstock on the top, bottom and outiside. I know this might change the geometry of the steering but all it should effect is how far the wheel goes one way or the other...right? So I would need to adjust my toe so that my steering wheel is straight. Let me know if you guys think this is a good idea or if I should just get a custom header. Oh by the way this is for a LT1 Thanks! Guy

How much HP should I get out of my LT1?
80LS1T replied to 80LS1T's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Yeah about the cam that's kinda what I thought, I thought it might be more of a PITA that its worth right now. The guy that is port and polishing my heads is also putting in the new valves and springs. So I am just going to be buying the HOTCAM and not the whole kit. About the headers, intake, and optispark. I have headers, I am going to run some kinda of custom cold air intake, and I have the new opti spark and timing cover so that is all covered. I guess I should have mentioned that before. Thanks for all the help guys! Guy
