Autometer gauges for my 280zx SBC project.....
80LS1T replied to 80LS1T's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Well I've already order them so I guess I'm on my own! I will update you guys when I start! Right now I am in between puttin my engine bay back together(just finished painting it, see my pics on my website) and putting my R200/CV set up in. I am a very busy person to say the least! Guy -
Ok I'm not in CA but from what I understand about their emissions is that you have to have the same year of engine or newer and all smog equipment that was on that engine. So if you have a 77 then your motor needs to be 77+ not older! So you might run into some serious problems! Maybe Greimann will chime in, I think he is from CA and has done all of his modifications legally. Guy

Ok I haven't seen your Z but I can't see spending money on a 4 cylinder that will be slow in most guys book even with those modifications do you? Aleast with a Z there is potenial for speed and power!! Besides you don't really want to become a RICER do you? Just my $.02 Guy

Yeah you can't put the motor in the JTR position but you might be able to use their mounts, not sure though. I have choosent to use MSA's mounts and I think they are going to work great. As for you rear end... is it a R180 or R200? If your car was a manual transmission to begin with it is most likely a R200. If it is and it is in good condtion then it should hold up for a while anyway. I am building a 1980 ZX with a LT1 and T56 with about 425HP+. I am also using CV halfshafts and not U-Joint halfshafts. You have to remember that these parts are 20 years old so there is no telling how long they will last. The R200 will deffinetly take more of a beating than the R180 though! Guy

Autometer gauges for my 280zx SBC project.....
80LS1T replied to 80LS1T's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Well I measured them last night while they were in the dash and heres what I found... The 3 center pod gauges are 2 5/8" and the speedo and tach are something like 4 9/16" if I remember correctly? So my question is will the 5" gauges work? Where do they measure from? I think I will just skip on replacing the fuel gauge and the water temp gauge for now since those are not 2 1/16" or 2 5/8". Thanks, Guy -
Hey how far do those stick out from the center 2 ports? Thanks, Guy

Autometer gauges for my 280ZX SBC project...
80LS1T posted a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I posted this in the misclanious section but that section doesn't get many responses, so here it is... Well from what I have read so far I have come to the conclusion that electric gauges are easier to install but mechanical are more accurate. I have chosen to use electric because I am using a 93 LT1 and T56. I have also chosen to use Autometers Phantom Series guages. Now heres the questions.... What size are my tach and speedo, What size are my fuel and water temp, And what size are my volt, oil press., and clock? Also will the fuel guage work in my car? and if so how does it hook up to my old units wiring? I think that's it but for some reason I feel like I had another question! Thanks, Guy -
I have an 80 ZX and I am using Konig Monsoon rims. They are 17x7 but I am also using Ross C's wheel spacers so I can use the 40mm offset. I "think" the widest you can go with out coilovers or flares is a 7.5" wide wheel. I know of one member who is running those, but he is also using Ross C's wheel spacers. If you want a larger select of rims your going to have to get wheel spacers. Heres the link to his site... http://www.modern-motorsports.com/ He is a VERY reputable(sp?) guy. I think the spacers are about $225 or so? Very good idea if you want aftermarket rims. Guy

You might want to post this in the drivetrain section or the datsun L6 section? Just a thought though! Sorry I couldn't really help, Guy

You know now that I think about, I don't think I have a 20mm in any of my sets! I am going to have to check now. I swear some of the stuff you guys think of just blows my mind! Guy

Can someone with a 280ZX do me a favor???
80LS1T replied to 80LS1T's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Hmmmmm... Was that an exact measurement or a estimation? Cause if it's 2" I might have found a header that will work! Don't know for sure though. I just emailed the guy and he hasn't responded yet. I really hope they do. Oh the wait is killing me! Thanks Greimann! Guy -

Son of *****! I thought I had the 2 speed the whole time! So will this cool my 400 HP LT1 with the 26X19 Griffin? Or should I start looking for a 2 speed? Guy -
I need to know how much space is between the steering gear box and the exhaust ports in the middle on the drivers side. I need to know for a 350 or equivalent. Thanks, Guy

Not sure if picturetrail will host but...here ya go.... Those look very nice! And I really like your rims too! Guy

Yeah I left teh AFM mount there because I am probably mount the MSD box there and/or coil. I will think of something! Or it might serve as a mount for the cold air intake to mount on before going out in front of the radiator. As for the rest of the car... I have to wait until the end of March before I will have my engine rebuilt(doing it at school on my own(tech college)). After it is in I will be painting it. So probably in the middle of April before I am completly done. As for the battery tray. I just couldn't see how 30-40lbs could make all the difference I weight. However if and only if my car is like 50 lbs off of 50/50 weight distribution front to back will I move it. I just want to see how close it is before I go to the trouble of moving it. By the way I updated my site so that the pics are clickable. I also have bigger pics of the paint job too! So you can get the full effect of the paint! Guy

Well I finally got to paint my engine bay today. Me and my Step-Dad primered it last night with a grey primer and let is set over night. Then today we sanded it down and got ready to paint. First we used a Silver base coat with metalic in it and put 3 coats of that on. Then we(he's the one painting) used the Cobalt Blue Kandy and put 2 coats of that on(the more you use the darker it gets). After that we put 3 coats of clear on and right now it is curing! There are a few spots that didn't as much Blue that I would have liked but hey painting an engine bay sure isn't easy! The spots we couldn't get are going to be cover anyway so you wont be able to see it anyways. Under the battery tray sure wasn't easy(I have choosen to leave the tray where it is because I think that moving the battery is silly but that's just my opinion!) Up by the head lights was kinda hard too. But overall I would give it a 8.5 out of 10. It is deffinetly 1000 times better than before! Anyways here's some pics! This is the silver base coat. This is the Blue Cobalt Kandy coat. So what do you guys think? I LOVE IT!!!!! Guy
