  1. This swap isn't hard,it's pretty easy. I had mine swapped and running in a few days. It all depends on how good you are turning wrenches. You can make it very hard or very easy, work smart not hard lol. Break the swap down in several steps just don't jump in with both feet. It can get very overwhelming fast. There is alot to do if you look at it in just one step. I had alot of fun doing mine.

  2. so you just modified your stock downpipe past the flange? how do you like your flowmaster?

I'm running a holset hx35 turbo. I had to make a custom down pipe off the turbo. The flowmaster sounds good I like it.It's not to loud or too quite.

  3. Hey Pat, I was curious about your manifold. Do you happen to have any more pictures of the mod you did? How did you get all that to fit in there haha. My turbo doesn't have much life left to it and I am eventually going to go 30 or 35. What seems to be pricey and hard to find is the exhaust manifold that will work with our setups. Thanks in advance.

(I'm not an RB20 hater xD)

I can take any pics you like, just let me know. There was tons of room. I had to use a 1/2 t3 turbo flange to make the compressor clear the exhaust manifold and I still had to shave alittle off the compressor housing. I had to weld a 90 degree aluminum elbow to the compressor outlet. I made my own mounts and I had to cut alittle to clear the turbo. But that was no big deal. I pulled off the exhaust manifold and cut a 40mm hole it for the stainless steel exhaust tube that I welded on it. I used ER309L stainless steel filler rod and tig welded it up. Welding cast is a pain but with the tig I could adjust the heat with the pedal and the stainless is awesome to weld. (colors were pretty LOL). The hx35 is cheap but effective turbo. I have 206.00 in the turbo and I rebuilt it to be on the safe side for 42.00. I have read on several foruns that the hx35 is just like the gt30 for a fraction of the price. The turbo pulls great with alittle lag on this rb20 but it still needs tuned. I'm sure when I get it tuned things will change.

I'm going to get it tuned when I get sometime. I was thinking of after I get it tuned I might sell the entire swap and go rb26 but I don't know. I get bored and need something to work on LOL

  4. Thanks Pat, much appreciated!

I'll have to do some more precise measurements but it looks like I'll be getting a front mount like one of these:

    25x12x3 overall, 18x12x3 core

    27x12x3 overall, 20x12x3 core

(they're both much cheaper on ebay, even from cxracing)

I'm wondering if there's even a significant difference between the two sizes but intercoolers are not really something I'm too familiar with.

Good idea on the GN coil pack. I'll have to keep that in mind if my coil packs are no good. I got the tracking on my ARP head studs yesterday, I'll be able to tear down the engine soon :D

Did you do anything special with your exhaust manifold studs? OEM? I haven't looked into much yet but it looks like other Nissan studs could be found to work.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. I used a a set of mazda 3 exhaust studs. I'm a mazda tesh and I had a extra mazda 3 head sitting around and I had a few broken studs. The mazda 3 studs were a perfect match for the head and also for the turbo flange. The old studs were to short on the turbo flange. Let me know if you have anymore questions, I'll be glad to help.

  5. Easy fellas

I haven't done anything. This guy jumps on this forum and doesn't even read the post. Then he jumps on ME. For what I don't know. I do what I can to help people on this forum not cause problems.

  6. seriously???? what the heck man, poor advice. stop by the parts house and pick up a 1.99 gasket for gods sake. get the right gasket nissan part number 21014-21000, http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsuns30/DatsunFairladyZIndex/Engine240Z260Z/WaterPumpFan/tabid/1591/Default.aspx

might be the same as L20B, or you could take pats advice and gum up your coolant passages with rtv!!! hooray!!!

By the way, Great 1st post.

Your the man. Tell us how it's done.Maybe for a L motor not a rb26

For what it's worth Nissan has been using sealant for water pumps for years.

RTV isn't the sealant I'm taking about. RTV is the shadetree sealant it's crap.Use a good quality sealant and you won't have anything to worry about.

  8. From what I can see in your pics, the 24" intercooler fits perfect for the stock holes in the core support. That is also my goal. It's looking like 27" end to end might be pushing it if that is 24". I don't have plans for the turbo so a 24-27" front mount should handle stock boost (or slightly above) no problem. Maybe I'm confused on your measurements too... is 24" the core size?

I have to be honest, I'm curious about the wasted spark ignition. Is that easier with NIStune?

    Thanks!

It's 24 inch from inlet to outlet. It fits perfect. I pit the wasted spark setup on the when I was having problems with the stock rb coils. I threw the stock coils in the trash and went to the auto parts store and got a coil pack from a Buick grand national and a set of msd plug wires. This set up is more reliable that the stock coils.

  9. you guys guys making your own fan shrouds? i am thinking about ordering a condensor with my prc. if i have a 4" intercooler, a condensor and a radiator do you think i need 1 fan or 2?

I'm thinking your going to need 2 fans. One for the radiator and 1 for the condensor. I don't think 1 fan would flow enough air through the condensor and the radiator. Your a/c pressures would be through the roof in traffic with the a/c on.

  10. Anything with wheels or boobs will cost you money. Like I was telling my wife my z is a money pit. I will never get what I Have in mine. And don't plan to.

I don't look at my project cars as a investment if I did I would be a poor man lol.

  11. Sorry Dwarlick no hostile tone here. I just think it's BS for a rbz going for 36k and not even running.

There is nothing wrong with making money. If I was to sell mine I would want to get as much as I could. Just wait now you will see every Joe blow trying to get top dollar. And that will drive the parts up. Just look at the American muscle cars. I remember not to long ago that you could pick up a nice mustang, gto,Nova SS roller for cheap and now you can't touch a rust bucket for less than 10k

  12. That one that was on eBay that ended at 34,600 with reserve not met was BS there is no way. Now everyone is going to think there z is worth a million. Now parts are going to more and the fun will be gone. Just wait you will see alot mote on eBay for tons of $$$$ and parts will be out of site. I have had my z for over 16 years and parts were cheap now just wait.

Just like the 1 million dollar 1970 hemi cuda vert

    This is BS
