  1. Actualy the first time I ever saw him was down in champaign as well. that was when i was still at U of I about 5 or 6 years ago now. where did he play at? mable's?
  2. wow I had never relised that wesly's impact was soo far reaching. I live In bucktown (the same nieghborhood as wesly) and use to see him often at a lot of shows in the nieghborhood. Now I can go to the double door and not wory about getting head-butted by him (one of his favorite ways to greet people). he was odd, but nice, and his record labels always had to keep buying him new portable cd players because the demons always smashed his, which he used to wear on a rope around his neck. I know the obituary stated that he died of complications due to lukemia, but I heard from a friend that used to play with him that more specificaly ti was a heart attack in his sleep what else can I say but... "Rock over London, Rock on Chicago!"
  3. I have a 71 240 and I am upgrading the brakes to the toyota 4 piston up front and the zx disks in the rear. from what I understand, it would be better for me to swap the standard 7/8ths MC for the 15/16 ths MC, which is fine because my MC leaks now anyway. but what is involved in the swap? I know it bolts on, but what about the larger piston to fit the 15/16 cylinder, and what about the push rod length? do I need to buy more than just the larger MC? thanks in advance scott

    THE WHITE ONE

I like the stories do you ever read C.K. DeLuxe mag, or Garage?
  6. I just got all the parts I need to swap the front breaks to the toyota 4x4 4piston, and to swap out my aluminum drums to disk breaks. before i bought this, i purchased a new master cylinder, because my old one is leaking through the vacume line. I have a brand new 7/8ths MC for my 71 240, but do I need to upgrade to a 15/16ths for the break conversion? I have not instaled the new MC yet, so I might be able to exchange it, but I am not sure. what do you guys think? scott www.estdesigns.com[/url]
  7. I dont know... if you realy want to drift, get some real balls and take it to the clay track. try drifting door to door, wheel to wheel at 80mph.
  8. also known as the natoriously crappy 307. I had the same engine in my 69 chevelle. it has a realy bad bore to stroke ratio, and has a piston limited redline of about 4500 to 5000. it just wont rev any higher. this is the engine that helped to coin the term... heavy chevy.
  9. I am going with the arizona z car springs with about a coil cut off for my 71 Z. but I am more of a road racer than a drag racer.
  10. another quick question, tokico sells their springs and shocks in a kit which saves alot of money, but you cant mix and match springs and struts, that is if i got the springs for a 280, for the increased spring rate, i would have to get the struts for the 280 as well. the woman I talked to said that there was a different part # for the 280 struts, bu tshe said that it may be just because of different valving. is this true, or is there an actual physical difference in the strut?
  11. Ok, i just got a call back from tokico. the rates for a 240z are 140lbs front, and 165lbs rear. does this sound like a high enough rate for a hybrid z, for performance driving? would it help any more to have the illumina struts over the non adjustable tokico's? and does any one know of any lowering kits that will provide a stiffer rate than that for the 240 without going to coil overs? by the way, thanks for all the info so far, I am working on getting som pictures of my car up so I can share. scott
  12. ok, i need springs and struts bad, and i think coilovers are a bit out of my price range. i have researched the eibach pro kit which is aperently the only kit they make for the my car, a 71 240z. the eibach rates are 68lbs to 148lbs in the front, and the rears are 85lbs to 302lbs. I have not heard back from tokico yet about the rates of their springs. but i can get the kit, with springs and shocks for all 4 corners for 379$ with the non adjustable struts, and 559$ for all four with the illuminas which seems to be a good deal. but if the springs suck, then it is not a good deal. so i am just wondering if any one likes them, or if any one hates themso I can decide. again my car is a 71 240z with big steel fender flairs and an sbc 400. I would like some stiff lowering springs, so it will stop bottoming out. thanks scott
  13. how will the 280z spring affect the "lowering" effect of the spring when put on a 240?
  14. ok, a little more info. I just got off the phone with suspension techniques, and their rates are linier, and are at 112lbs for the front, and 184lbs for the rear. however, their springs for a 280z are 182lbs front and 202lbs rear. would the 280z springs be a possibility ono a 240? still no info from tokico, i think htey are closed for the hollidays, i just keep getting voice mail.
  15. I think you could still do alot for traction with a better tire set up, and some suspension adjustments. weight tranfer is a big part of traction, as well as tire give. a softer compund and perhaps even a softer side wall, or maby a taller side wall. it looks good with the rubberbands on the 17's, but those are better for lateral traction, as found in a turn, but not so good for acceleration. If you went to a 16" wheel you might be able to squeeze a bit wider and taller side wall tire in the stock fender. just keep tweeking, I like the stock sleeper look
  16. hold strong, Stick with the 215, it can be an amazing engine, just get that catalog from d&d and you will be hooked. It can put out some serious hp for the size and weight of it, and as for a trans, the muncie 4sp is a perfect fit, as well as many others. just think of what an amazing road race car a Z could be with that engine. it would weigh less than a stock Z and that weight would be off the front, making breaking and directional changes that much easier. besides this engine was once used in an F1 effort. Good enough for them, most likely ok for a Z car.
  17. the original corvette grandsport ran quad side draft webbers, so they did build that manifold at on time maby there are some of those around.
  18. I dont know of any one who has done this swap, but for any information on the 215, contact this place. d&d Fabrications. they are in Michigan ph # 810.798.2491 they may know a little about the swap, or have som parts you could use. The build a swap kit for early MGB's. Plus they have the most performance parts for a 215 I have ever seen. just call and they will send you a free cattalog. they do some pretty amazing builds, like a 292 ci stroked and bored 215 running 13.5:1 compression with a custom intake running quad twin barrel webber 45 dcoe downdrafts. and please keep us informed on your progress. I would love see one of these swaps done, I just can't put the money togather to build the engine I want. scott
  19. Now from what I have heard this is not an easy swap into a 240 z, but just how rediculusly hard is this. how much coast in fabricsating new parts and such. and how much of the 300 zxtt drive train would I need to pull this off. In advance, I apriciate the help.
  20. does any on know what differential the 300 x tt has. is it an r200 or r230? and would that be an lsd?
  21. how much adjusting was need on the diff itself, and will I need to change my driveshaft, due to any difference in lengths? my car is in running driving condition right now with a sbc 400, turbo 350 trans, and the stock r180. and also, how much better is this rear end than a r200?
  22. does any one know if the Master Cylinder for a 72-76 z with a 7/8 th bore will work on a a 71 240 with the original booster? scott
  23. I just talked to a woman at victoria british, and she said from what she could tell, the difference in the MC for the 71 and the 72 was that it seemed to be turned 180 deg, that the different parts seemed to be on oposit sides, is this correct, or were the pictures she was looking at just taken from different angles? but I guess from what terry said, this wont make a difference.
  24. if the 72-76 part has a 7/8 th bore, is that bigger or smaller than the one on my 71. And could that cause a problem with my wheel cylinders, could that produce too much pressure and blow the seals?
  25. I found a guy selling a few sets of eibock springs. they are all 2.5 in id. he has 200lbs, 225 lbs, and 250 lbs. they are 8 in long, and he says they will fit a datsun. I have a 71 240 with a sbc 400 with alluminum heads. which spring rate would be the best?
