  1. there are probobly more options in the chevy bolt pattern, I just picked up a set of corvette zr1 rear (17x11) wheels for my z on ebay, and only cost me $100 bucks
  2. what is the deal with getting one of those transmissions fixed. I have a friend that works for a dealership, and he said that when a car comes in with trans problems, (gm 6 spds) they are not alowed to open it at all, they have to send it right back to the manufacturer.
  3. I would love to come as well, however, I am out of town the next two weekends for sure. so if you have it then oh well, and get some pictures but if you have it later in the month than that, I will do my best to show up. scott
  4. that looks realy nice! where are you guys at in chicago, I live in wicker park. scott
  5. I too would like a copy of those measurment if it not too much trouble. did you ever get that measurement of the front track width for the corvette with the weels on? shoot me a PM thanks

I have a vehicle to tow it with and a place to store it till it can be brought back to chicago. my main problem is he is keeping the wheels, and I need it to roll. so, does any one have a set of junky wheels that I can barow or buy for cheap? or know of a yard I can get some at cheap? also any one going to the denver gp or the WoO on tuesday night at the rocky mountain speedway let me know, maby we can meet up. thanks scott

  10. the problem with having a sunroof along all the leak problems and glaring sun is that theh y do infact weaken the stength of the unit body. diagonal strength across the superstructure (everything above the roll center) is the main thing to stop torsional flex. a sunroof removes about 70% of the metal that provides that strength. in other words, the a,b and c pillars of you car work like the coresponding parts of a rollcage, and the roof is like the halo bar that ties it all togather. pluss the damn metal frame from my sunroof is always a PITA when I wear my helmet in the car. I have to realy slouch down
  11. how about a big engine in one of those silly looking hybrid (gas / electric cars) ?
  12. I autocrossed against a girl who had an sti, an dshe go thit in the rear end, so when the body work was done she had tehm remove the spoiler, and it looked so much better. and by the way, all that turbo does not help you much on a tight autocross
  13. I was suposed to go meet up with some friends this weekend, but I have a f'n wedding to go to instead. this wedding is pissing me off to. because of it, i am missing a chance to go to the pikes peak race, the scca south bend regonals, and summerfest. and it has been so long since I have been to MKE the last time was for the champcar race at the mile (weeks ago) by the way, when is chevelle playing, I would like to check that out. some good old chi town metal, although i did like there earlier stuff better when they weere recording with steve albini.
  14. how does putting something like the corvette front end on a smaller car like the z change the handeling of that specific suspension design. I am wondering because the vette has a wider track width, so building it to a narrower front will change the roll center right? maby I am way off, or maby it will not change enough to be a problem, but I am just wondering because obviously the length of controll arms are designed to work in conjunction with the spoecifications of the corvette.
  15. that corvette front end I mentioned is actualy from a c4 not a c5, nad it is at $227 with 5 hr left. here is pic
  16. well, I did a quick search on ebay for corvette front ends, and I found one with one day left on the auction currently at $250. and that was complete with 13" rotors. but having the different lug patterns is bothering me right now, and I would not mind the corvette rear end, but I dont think that is in the budget right now.
  17. well, my original thought was that I would not be starting from scratch (using the datsun suspension) I do plan on spending some money and alot of time on this, but I am still trying to stay within a budget, and I am not sure if building a completely new suspension set up will fit in to that budget. but I will look into the book and thank you for the sugestion. I am not building an all out competition car, but I do want it to handle well. and I am also looking into the cost of getting a corvette front end. My original Idea for this cam from 74_5.0LZ, and the tube front end he put on his car after it was in an accident, and he used the stock suspension set up, but I just started to get into the while I am at it syndrome again.
  18. I am thinking about doing a new complete front end on the 71 240. It will be a full tube front end on top of a boxed subframe tied to a 10pt cage from the fire wall back. (subframe running through the floor to the rear suspension) the engine would then be mounted with engine plates. my question is as long as I am going with a completely custom front end, what other front suspension set up should I look at? my original plan was to use the standard datsun strut set up with coilovers and camber plates big brakes etc. but as long as it is all going to be new, what might be easier to fab up, or just better in general. and I will use the flairs I have now, which are very wide, so nothing needs to fit under the stock body this car will be used for track days mostly, but will still be street legal for limited driving to car shows etc. so what do yo guys think
  19. I never thought of the "pissing" aspect when I made tha graphic. hmmm
  20. here is my silver 69 chevelle before...... after.... scott
  21. yea, its a Mercedes. it is a 1958 190 sl. it is my dads car, right now she is getting preped for a little drive out to Sonoma CA. He and my mom are leaving in 2 weeks.
  22. my car is SATIN black, and yes it does a decent job of hiding the small imperfections. because it does not reflect (more like refract) light directly, it breaks it up kind of like and out of focus picture so waves and ripples will not be obvious. scott
  23. yea, that is my car. the photo's do a great job of making the roller paint job look good. I do not know what the body kit is, it was originaly purchased about 15 yrs ago (not by me) I think it may have been the california z car body kit. there have been alot of modifications to make it fit with the original headlight buckets, an dfor the rears to flow into the door jams. does anyone else have any ideas what it might be? scott
  24. I went with some bigger vents then the stock 280 ones, they seem to work well, but I have a new hood and I am having trouble locating another louvering machine, and I don't want to put a solid hod back on.
