  1. While this year has not been quite as thrilling as last, I'm hoping it will end differently too. They have looked hot and cold at random this year, but seeing them come back at Tenn today does a lot to their legitimacy. I really want another crack at the Pats, hopefully in the AFC Championship. I would like nothing more than to beat them in their stadium to knock them out. I hate the Pats so much words fail me. Brian
  2. Looking at those pics it almost looks as though the intercoolers are contained in their own box. What are the chances that the entire box might be flooded with water that circulates through it's own exchanger? Just a thought. Brian
  3. I have shipped two RB20det engines complete with tranny and harness. If I remember correctly I was charged based on a weight of around 600 pounds each. Now, I will admit that to this day I am sceptical of this. I was not impressed with the shipping company as they called me after they picked them up to say I was over the quoted weight and that it would cost more than agreed upon. I always felt it was a bit to "bait and switch" looking. Now, the weight could very well be accurate as well. There is a lot of engine there. I only mention this as it still crosses my mind. Seeing as the engine is more or less the same as an RB25, the only real difference would be the tranny at around another 50 pounds or so. Brian
  4. Running, or running and safe? Because at least a few of them were downright death traps at one time. Seriously though, all of the "non-classics" were daily drivers/commuter cars for me or my wife. All of the ZX turbos were purchased with the only intent of stripping them of their drivetrains so that they could be installed in the multiple S30's I had. My friends and I managed to make a decent amount of fun money selling turbocharged S30's back in San Diego. The 510 was a beauty when I sold it and only lacked a drivetrain as I had converted it to RHD, installed CDM fiberglass hood, trunk, flares, and fenders and then had it painted in Porsche Guards Red. The 1200 project never got off the ground and was bone stock when I got it and when I sold it a year later. The '71 Skyline was running and driving when I got it as was the '74. The '67.5 Roadster was one of my favorites. I was the first in the U.S. to swap an SR20det into one. Mine was wolf in sheeps clothing. Big T3/T4 turbo on an S13 redtop with an SDS EMS. Full comp suspension with 944 turbo Brembo front brakes and R32 GT-R rears. I broke 2 rear ends in less than 2 months at the track. It was scary fast. 250hp and 2000#'s. Not a bad combo. Good times.......good times. Brian
  5. These are all interesting points. Maybe I am just a bit more open to spending that kind of money on a Japanese car than most. Having had a fair bit more time behind the wheel of multiple Skylines than most American buyers I have more of an affinity for them. But I have never been shy about admitting my bias. The best I try to do is not make too many random comments about others. I do however consider myself more open than most to the realities of the car scene. Never have I said the Vette is anything less than a great car. But for some reason it always seems to be a Vette guy that brings the comparison up, to whatever car is being discussed at the time, and this is what I am amused by. As if the only way a car could be considered successful is how it measures up to the Vette. Look at this posting for an example. We'll see I guess. Brian
  6. You see, this I can believe. I honestly think that a good driver on a good night could get one into the 11's. And I'm sure that as the production has gone over the last few years Chevy has made improvements along the way. A newer one may very well be faster than an early one. I will make one more point though. Does anyone else find it funny that no where was the credibility of the Corvette challenged yet someone felt the need to interject how it could beat the GT-R? Testing aside I am amused at the apparent fear the Corvette bretheren have of the release of the GT-R. It seems than most threads regarding this car at some point end up with a comment on how "such and such Corvette will smoke it". If that truly is the case then I am somewhat perplexed at the attention Corvette owners seem to pay the GT-R. Brian
  7. Good try, but not quite. My sig is merely of my favorite toys cars. Listing all of the Nissans I have owned would nearly require it's own thread. But, in the interest of total disclosure, here is what I currently own; 2005 Armada 1992 D21 V6 4x4 (Hardbody) 1991 WD21 V6 4x4 (Pathfinder) 1973 GT-R And what I have owned in just the last 5 years 2003 Xterra V6 2000 Frontier Crew Cab 4x4 1991 D21 V6 1990 WD21 V6 4x4 1989 S13 hatch 1989 S13 coupe 1994 RNN14 GTi-R 1992 R32 1974 KGC110 Skyline 1971 KGC10 Skyline 1969 S30 1970 S30 x3 1971 S30 1972 S30 x2 1973 S30 1981 280ZX turbo 1982 280ZX turbo x2 1983 280ZX turbo 1972 510 1972 1200 1967.5 spl311 If I went back any further than 5 years it would start to get really cluttered. Brian
  8. Obviously you are a bit irrational and emotional. The sci-fi comment was regarding the twin turbo Vette comment. And as for your alleged proof of "running 10's" on a stock Vette, I call B.S. Even if that car is truly stock, which I doubt it is, it ran one pass out of four that put it into the 10's. Hardly convincing. And as for your apparent dislike for unbiased reporting you will need to forgive me for taking the word of a well established and proven magazine over yours. Time and time again both of the magazines I mentioned have proven accurate and reliable. To be able to say that a car runs 10's off the showroom floor you would need to show than anyone anytime can repeat it with any C6 Z06. And you have not done this. As I said earlier people identify themselves with their choice of car and become irrational. Simply reading your signature shows you have a propensity for GM vehicles and are most likely not qualified to have an adult conversation on the subject. Not to mention your poor grammar and "street slang" do little to help your cause. But if it helps you sleep at night, then fine, you sure showed me up. Brian
  9. This is what I am talking about. Where exactly did you get these numbers from? Because both Motor Trend and Car and Driver each could get no better than 12.5 @ 115 with a stock C6 Z06 Corvette. Show me a 10 second slip for a bone stock, showroom Z06. While I have not personally driven a C6 Z06, I have though driven both a C5 and a C6 and can actually tell you that the interior finish looks to have actually declined in the C6 when compared to the earlier C5. You would really really need to squint to think any GM interior is up to par with a Porsche. And as for your speculation on a turbo Z06, what are you expecting to prove? That can be said for any car out there. What if Honda was to take it's F1 V10 and stick it into an Accord? It's a pointless comment. To my knowledge GM has not made a twin turbo Corvette. So unless you have some insider info I suggest we keep this discussion in the realm of reality and not sci-fi. Brian
  10. GM will have it's own problems trying to sell the new ZR-1 for $115k. The last one was not much of a sales success either. $55k in 1988 for a vette was a hard sell. For all of the talk about Nissan treading on exotic type money GM will be clearly in the Porsche price tag area with that one. And let's be honest, there has not been a GM car yet that has the fit and finish of a 911 or the "quality feel" for lack of a better term. Having grown up in a GM family and having driven numerous Vettes over the years I can tell you that there have been many good things done with that car, but not $115k good. To use your anology, at $100k+ I could get a slightly used 911 GT2 and sink $30k into it and still take my wife on vacation. Or, I could buy a brand spankin new GT-R and sink $45k into it. What kind of car do you think that would be? I'll tell you, it would be terrifying. But these kinds of comparisons are pointless. In reality very few people cross shop like that, especially new cars. A guy interested, and able, to buy a 911 turbo probably won't look at a Z06. By the same token, a potential Z06 buyer would find the GT-R to not fit his style. All three of these are very different cars with different expected markets. As I mentioned before, my family has been GM since before I was born. My father has owned a Vette since '73 and has owned quite a few. He is in my opinion a typical Vette owner. Somewhat blind to the other options out there and in no way would he ever consider owning a Porsche or Skyline. He genuinely believes a Chevy V8 is the only way to make power. Having seen the RB26 under the hood of my car he boldly insists my car has to be slow. He can't wrap his brain around the possibility (and in this case the reality) that my car could beat his C5. People seem to identify themselves with their choice of cars and become a bit myopic. We've all been guilty of it at one time or another, it just seems that there are those out there that are guilty of doing it all of the time. Brian
  11. If I were able to sell my '73, perhaps. As it is right now the wife is not too keen on me having multiple toy cars again. Can't say that I blame her. She was extremely tolerant of the 10+ cars I had in the back yard just a few years ago back in San Diego. The deal at that time was that I would liquidate everything and focus on just one car at a time. That is how I bought my first Skyline and the deal has pretty much stayed in place since. Although right now I'm really enjoying actually driving my '73. Like most of the other members here, I have spent more time under my cars than behind the wheel. On a somewhat related note, I was approached by a salesman from one of the local Nissan dealerships while at the weekly local car show. He wanted to know if I might be interested in loaning my car for a side by side display once they got the new one. It's an intriguing idea to say the least. Brian
  12. This should be somewhat eye opening for those that claim the GT-R is too expensive. It's a video of the assembly line. The only time I have seen this kind of attention to detail on an assembly line is at a Porsche, Ferrari, or Lambo plant. It may be known that the engines and drivetrains are hand assembled but now it looks as though nearly the whole car is hand assembled. Add this to the world beating performance and the car becomes an absolute deal at $70k. Brian
  13. I guess technically it is a 40 year old design as the original GT-R also was an inline 6 with twin cams, 24 valves, and a cross flow head. But let's be honest, the original S20 was so vastly ahead of it's time that the design did not become common until the '80's. And the RB26 was also vastly ahead of it's time. People were somewhat reluctant to accept the VG30 in the '84 300ZX as well. I'm also a bit surprised to hear this type of criticism from someone that ran a C5 Corvette for so long. If you want to talk about an archaic design look no further than the lump under that hood. But people are still in love with that pushrod V8. I think the people in this thread are simply referring to the dramatic change from the inline to the V. Brian
  14. I have what you need. You can't run just one resistor, not to mention you have the wrong one too. You need to run 10v 6.8ohm resistors for each injector seperately. I actually got six of them and was ready to make my own resistor box before I found a good deal on a factory one. These are a pain to find for some reason. None of the Radio Shacks have them and I had to go to both of the Fry's Electronics stores to get 6 of them. Brian
  15. This kicks a##! Can I hit you up for some of the parts I'm still needing for my Kenmeri? There is no real rush on any of it, but a few of the parts seem to be a bit hard to find. Surprisingly I had less trouble getting parts for my Hakosuka. My car is a '73 2 door. Here is what I still need. New dash pad w/Skyline emblem GT-R door panels GT-R "R" style pillar badge GT-R gas filler door "GT" side badges GT-R aluminum dash and center console And if you happen to come across an early Kenmeri center console I would be interested in that as well. Please let me know if any of these are attainable. Thanks Brian
  16. So, my only question right now is; when are we going to the track? I'm still waiting on my wheels but then I'll be ready to go. I'm pushing Timi to get his R32 sorted and on the road again too. Since getting the car on the road I have been itching to get it down the 1/4 mile. Brian
  17. They look like Gotti wheels. I had a set of 14" ones a long time ago. These look like they are 15" though. They were 3 piece wheels as well. Brian
  18. This is rather interesting. Were any of you guys at the JCCS last month? If so, you might recall the blue Kenmerri Skyline in full factory race guise. I was able to have a limited conversation with the owner, he speaks far better English than my Japanese, and he explained to me that his car in fact had a 3.4 L series. I did not note any of the specs he mentioned as I did not think there would be a discussion about this subject, but he did say that the crank had been welded and re-balanced. Anyhow, he said it has been running this way for over 10 years. And if any of you heard this car as it came in or left, you'd agree it was unlike any other L series you've heard. The thing sounded like a pissed off small block Chevy. I have little reason to doubt his claims. And as mentioned earlier in this post, all of us at one time or another have been told something was impossible only to find a way to silence the doubters. My opinion is that we should all cheer our bretheren on. They may well fail in the end, but isn't it better to see someone make the attempt and find out for sure that something can't be done? If we all just gave up when someone said it couldn't be done we'd all still be sitting in a cave wearing loin cloths. Even if I had not seen a 3.4 motor in person I'd say go for it. Brian
  19. Pleeeeeease, you are all way off. The greatest song ever written and recorded is Kashmir by Led Zepplin. There is no valid argument against it. Brian
  20. Guys, I went out with a friend this afternoon and shot a few videos. None of them are too intense as there seemed to be a cop on every corner of my town today. I did happen to get a chance to open it up some on the way home though. A guy in an Acura decided to pass me on the shoulder as two lanes converged before going through a large dip. As we exited up the hill it splits into two lanes again. He is probably about 4-5 cars in front of me and once he reaches the top he guns it. I waited until I reached the top and went after him. It was not even funny. Wait, check that, it was hilarious. I opened it up in second gear, caught him within 100 feet and shifted into third as I passed him so that he could hear the BOV. I put about 5 cars on him and shut it down. The look on the kids face was priceless. As I passed him on his left, he's looking at me with the expession of a blonde working on a quantum physics question. His brain just could not process what his eyes were seeing. Anyhow, they are not much, but might be somewhat entertaining. And yes, you do hear the tires squealing in one of them. Brian
  21. If you are looking for a straight trade, my motor is an R33. I would be interested in discussing it. Brian
  22. Give me a call. I'll take you for a spin. This thing is stupid fast. Brian
  23. Here is a newer vid after I had a little time to adjust things. I have the idle down and the fuel pressure sorted. The pressure was easy, the Aeromotive regulator was almost dead on from the factory. I just cranked it about 1 turn. The idle was odd, I thought the IAC valve was the problem and started messing with that. Note to all, don't start here. This is not the problem, guaranteed. Very little change happens with this at idle. What I did find later is that this is very important if you have a BOV that vents to atmosphere. My RB would try to die immediately upon release of the throttle. The IAC keeps the available vacuum in check. I adjusted it back out and now she responds pretty well. I will most likely need to get an HKS EIDS to really make it happy, but that's later. Anyhow the main idle issue was the throttle rod. It must have been just slightly bent because once I backed out the four mounting screws the idle dropped. I re-tightened them slowly and found the one that made the difference. I tightened this one last just to the point of being snug. It may sound loud in the video, but it's a bit deceptive. Enjoy Brian
  24. Sorry, gotta laugh from that one. The 2JZ is a great motor but is no where near a better motor than the RB26 stock for stock, or in any trim for that matter. I have been hearing this for a while and have yet to see any real proof of it. Stock for stock they are nearly identical. Nissan, having to sell the motor in Japan, rated it at 287hp. The 2JZ being sold here in the U.S. was able to be more acurately rated at 320hp. Everyone knows this is what a stock RB26 puts out as well. If you were to get nit-picky, the RB26 has vastly superior throttle response and a larger power band. As for mods, there are far more 1000hp + Skylines than Supras. And lets be honest, any motor putting out over 600hp will need internal mods if it is expected to live long. Brian
  25. Guys, Here are a couple pics of the "somewhat" finished swap. These were taken at the JCCS last weekend. To be honest, aside from my engine bay my car was the ugly duckling of the Skyline group. My wheels never came in and thus my car sat as high as a 4x4. But hey, I made it to the show. Anyhow, here you go; And here is a video of when we got it fired up. Please excuse my lame commentary and questionable hair-do. It had been a long few weeks and the excitement of hearing it run got the better of me. Brian
