  1. Is the Roadster a '68 1600? And if so, did you happen to buy it from Doug Platt? That looks just like the one I helped him build several years ago. I know he sold it about 4 years back or so. Also, by the looks of it, do you live in Allied Gardens or Clairemont by chance? Brian
  2. Only the wagon has the live axle rear. The 2 door and 4 door sedans were IRS. At least here in the U.S. Mexican 510's were all live axle regardless of wagon or sedan. Very cool project. Brian
  3. There are a few key issues with the GC10 series. You really need to look at where there is rust. They rot in the panels just below the doors, the spare tire well, and around the rear windshield. These are pretty common. The rocker panels are not too big a deal as they are readily available. The potential problem in the area is if the rust gets into the frame rail. It could also get into the rails leading into the engine bay. Next, open the trunk, look just above the fuel tank at the rear windshield seal. Any rust there could be a potential problem. The doors are also a place to check. Now, is this by chance the one in Washington that you are considering? If so, there are a few other specific issues with this car. I spoke with the guy when he first got it last year. I looked at several pics and there were some oddities. Now, remember I'm going off of my memory here from a year ago, so don't take it all as exact. The interior had some discrapancies. It looked as though the car originally had power windows as there are no cranks for the backseat. But the front doors look to be manual. I had speculated that the doors may have been switched. Also, the recent paintjob concerned me. Look at the lower portions of the car closely, there looks to be a "tape" under the paint. Possible signs of intentional hiding of rust. Also, the pics of the underside of the car look as though it has had a rough life. Dented spare tire well and such. My opinion of the car is that it was pieced together simply to ship it over here. Now, this is not to say that it is not worth having. Just something to consider. I can go over plenty of other things if you want. Hopefully you still have my number, give me a call if I can help you with anything. Brian
  4. Everything might be fine. Is the diff an '87 or '88? The '87 is the clutch type that you guys are speaking of. The '88 is the viscous. This one actually produces grip as it gets hotter. While cold, it may act more like an open diff. Also, as stupid as this might sound, was the car in gear when you spun the wheel? If not, it is just as easy for the input flange to spin instead of the opposite wheel. This would happen on either an open or viscous diff. Brian
  5. Buy the Pathfinder. A '90-'93 will run you no more than $3k for a good one. They are the perfect overall vehicle. Comfortable, reliable, spacious, and can easily tow a Z car on a car hauler. I had a '90 and I kick myself daily for selling it before I moved to Phoenix. I will be looking to pick another up myself this year. Aside from iffy gas mileage, around 15mpg, you will love it. Brian
  6. I'm watching tonights episode in Florida and as a Porsche and an Evo (I think) both break at the line Nate Pritchett makes the comment "That's the problem. I like the imports but they just aren't reliable". I find this funny because the previous 5 minutes and the next 20 minutes shows nothing but muscle cars breaking down. I personally still find the show entertaining, but I have always felt they are pro-domestic. This comment shows at the very least a slight slant against imports. Brian
  7. This is great guys. I really appreciate the input. Most of the use of these will be at Firebird Raceway here in Phoenix. On both the roadcourse and the dragstrip. The latter will be just the Friday night fun runs, whereas the roadcourse runs will be more of a real focus. These will be 16", hopefully 225 in the front and 245 in the rear. The car in question is a 510. As stated before it will be registered and driven on the street, but it will be as stripped out as possible as it's predominant purpose will be racing. I am leaning more towards the Toyos right now. Due in part to the larger selection of sizes and the cost. But I would still like to hear more. Brian
  8. Guys, I'm looking to buy some R compound race tires for a track car. The car will be driven to and from the race track, but comfort and noise are not an issue. As of right now, I'm thinking about the Yokohama AO48, the Toyo RA-1, or the Kumho Victoracer. I am open to any other suggestions as well. The tire needs to be a DOT legal one and preferably decent lifespan. This car will be for autox and road course. Please let me hear your experiences and opinions. Brian
  9. Those are the KGC110 Kenmeri Skyline taillights. From '73-'77. I happen to have a spare set right here. They are just the light assemblies, you would need to fab up a panel. If you're interested, let me know. Brian
  10. If you are just using your stock Nissan wiring and sender then you want a gauge for a Ford application. They use the same OHM range.
  11. I actually had all the parts to convert a car. I had found a Fairlady Z in a junkyard back in San Diego about 10 years ago. I kept all the parts until 2 years ago when I sold them. Here is what you will need; steering rack pedal box gas pedal dash and parts you don't actually need to make it work but are different and will complete the conversion windshield cowling windshield wiper arms windshield wiper linkage gas pedal linkage wiper/lights control stalk (the turn signal stalk and this one are flipped compared to the LHD ones and just flipping over a U.S. one will not be the same) Also, you will need to fab up a mounting bracket for the steering column as well because it's actually welded to the frame. Brian
  12. Guys, I'm looking for someone near Buffalo or Niagara Falls that might be willing to hold a car for me. I found an R32 GT-R in Canada and need a place to have it dropped off at and then picked up by an auto transport company. I'm happy to pay for your time and effort. Though I will have everything arranged to make it as painless as possible. Thanks Brian
  13. Yasin, That episode you mentioned is actually from a year ago, not the new one. The new one was 1 hour later and featured a Malibu wagon and a '69 Tempest. The older episode was one of the worst in my opinion. But keep in mind that the Delta 88 was scheduled to race a different car originally that broke during the warmups. Brian
  14. I don't know if this might interest you, but I have a pre-programmed Wolf EMS that I had originally planned to use on an RB30 build myself. It's looking like I probably won't be using it. It's a plug and play and comes with an RB26 harness already set. It came off an R33 with cams and 700cc injectors. If you're interested let me know. Brian

    Thnx admins

You really don't realize the difference until you see it in action. I occasionally go to Zcar as well and while I enjoy some of the talk there, I have found myself arguing with people over keeping talk car related. The ever so famous Norm continues to bully and insult people there when ever he gets a wild hair about his political or religious views. I quickly realized how here on HybridZ I would never need to point out unrelated subjects as they would not be allowed to begin with. Everyone has there own personal views and ideals, but it is quite clear that these have no place as little can good come from them. With the anonymity of the net, people will often spout off things they would never have the nerve to say in person. I personally applaud the "strong hand" approach as the last thing anyone wants is to have the inmates running the asylum. And make no mistake about it, that is what this place is. Because we are all clearly insane. Any of us with a wife or girlfriend has probably been reminded of this fact on many occasions. Brian
  16. Phil, If you want a GC210 I can get one fairly easily. They are pretty common in Aus, though not in turbo. But you can convert it just as easily as a Z. I could get a good one for about $2k, then $2500 for shipping it up. Just to give you a ballpark figure if you want to down the road. Brian
  17. If you are looking for something ready to go, I still have my brand new Kaaz LSD. It has not even been broken in yet. It's a 3.9 R200 with a Nissan Motorsports finned cover. Brand new bearings, bolts, and seals were installed. I'm asking $1200 shipped. Just thought I'd put that out there. Brian
  18. Do you happen to know if it is the stock tranny off hand? I assume your car is a '71 or '72 then if your car is a KGC10. The five speed was on the GT-X as the GT came with a four speed. If you have an original five speed, you don't really want to swap it out. The five speed uses a two piece telescopic driveshaft that actually bolts to a flange on the tranny as opposed to the sliding yoke on the U.S. spec tranny. Not to mention an original five speed would be an "A" box and all of the U.S. five speeds were "B" box, except for the five speed from a Roadster. But we'll get to that in a minute. Look under the car and check for the two piece drive shaft. That will really dictate what you need to do. If there is only a one piece, then it's not an original five speed and you can pretty much swap it out with a regular 280Z or ZX tranny. If it is an original tranny, here is what you will need. This tranny shares internals with the 2000 Roadster tranny. They are both steel synchro equipped. You should be able to repair yours with parts for a Roadster. Les at Classic Datsun may be able to help you there. Let me know if you have any other questions. Brian
  19. I had actually used a pod for an RX-7. It was the closest fit I found. This would be the FC body RX-7, such as the Turbo II. I used this style on at least three of my turbo conversion 240Z's. Just something to think about. Brian
  20. Actually, there is no Nismo in Ten. It is Nissan Motorsports. Nismo is a seperate body, Nissan Motorsports International. Nissan U.S.A. is now able to order some Nismo parts, but this is a relatively new situation as for several years Nismo would not deal with Nissan U.S.A. You will also find some problems with any part number including an "R" in it. These are all non-U.S.A. parts and can be difficult to source sometimes. Back when I had an FJ20 in my Roadster I tried to get parts for it. I even had all the part numbers but was told repeatedly that I was S.O.L. Brian
  21. This is a pretty cool idea. Mine comes from a personalized liscense plate I had for many years. A KWIK Z . I got it when I built my first turbo Z car and used it each time I built a new one. I can't tell you how much trouble that plate got me into, but it was well worth it. Brian
  22. The Patriots should not have won last week to begin with. They were handed that game and in the final drive they should have been flagged for roughing the passer when Rivers spiked the ball and the Patriot lineman came through and hit him in the head. After the play was dead. No flag, as usual for the Pats. 15 yards would have put the Chargers in perfect F/G position to tie the game and send it to O/T. I really enjoyed the fact that the refs flagged the Pats on a very questionable roughing the passer against the Colts on the second to last drive. Pats fans are all screaming about that call and how it cost them the game. Well, you should have had that call a week ago. What goes around comes around. And I for one am extremely tired of hearing about the greatness of Brady and the Patriots. Contrary to what the media was saying last week, Brady did not win that game. He had a rating of 49! He was intercepted 3 times and on the run the whole game. Inexperience and over-eagerness of the Chragers D is what lost the game. Yes I am still a bit jaded about it, but it's good to know that Brady and Billichick will be watching the Superbowl from their couches just like me. Brian
