  1. Most I've seen blow have been through simple greed...

Goals aren't quantified, or if they are...once they get there the. Owner twists that bost controller again "just to see what it will do"...

    "Boom!"

I recommend newcomers to boost get a simple mechanical boost controller, put it under the hood and make adjustment of the boost as difficult as possible. If its there at your fingertips...fingeritis sets in and...

    "Boom!"

  2. "people usually don't care about what kind of modifications they do when it comes to the 260Z"

    :icon14:  :icon14:  :icon14:  :icon14:

The perfect car for modifications in the USA, not a bulky pig like a 280Z.... not something expensive like the 240Z!

Better Electrics, and Factory Air in the USA, to boot!

  3. "How much power can the stock bottom end handle?"

Been covered EXTENSIVELY and is a ZC.C style question. I think there are even threads on the current pages of various forums where these numbers are even posted.

Suffice to say "300RWHP L28ET" is covered every which way from Sunday and is nowhere near "how much power can the stock bottom end handle" and that's something anybody who's read the information just about anywhere on the interwebs can authoritatively state. Nowhere CLOSE.

  4. Yeah, my coworker is at someplace in AbuDhabi now complaining about "118"...

Another is at an aluminium rolling plant in KSA saying similar things.

I'm in rainy palm trees in Borneo...and hopefully in a week or two I'll head back to The Philippines for temps in the mid-high 20's! ©

  5. When I can walk through the Pick-A-Part on North Blinn in Wilmington and see a "Y70" head on a late model Maxima...and do a double take to confirm indeed it's an L20E in there...the "rarity" and "exclusivity" of export markets has to be called into question.

K Wantanabe & Sons, Mapai International, etc...ALL imported JDM Engines by the CONTAINERLOADS through the 70's, 80's, 90's, and continue to this day.

An L20A may be " Rare"...where you exist. But lets not cheapen the word.

    A US-Specification LHD 1969 Toyota 2000GT is "Rare" there were 9 imported.

A Boss 302 Mustang was touted as "Rare" in the Midwest because only 250,000 were produced...

    A US-Spec 260Z is "Rare"--78,000 produced for 1974

A Fairlady Z then is even "Rarer" as 78,000 were made 69-77...

And of those, 417 came with the S20 Engine.

Rare is a matter of degrees. Personally, I reserve it's use for items with a production number not in five or six digits...

  6. Yep, if you're RLS then it's an engine swap.

As for the E30 being "Rare" AGAIN: it is AT LEAST AS COMMON AS, IF NOT MORE SO than the E31.

The only reason to use or get wood over an E31 is because you are in a race class where you are restricted to use them in stock form.

Most people use other heads...and in fact the O5L was sold through Nissan Comp in the USA for serious high-level competitors...I know of at least three recently purchased in SoCal from a hoarder who socked them away in the 80's when he was involved in Racing Turbo L28's...

Don't believe the internets for your L-Series history...especially for stateside sources. It's woefully misleading.

It's like the Internet site that says N42's were an "FI Only Head" when in fact my N42 (as well as several others here) have N42's with ONLY carburettor bolt flanges, and no injection notches.

The problem with listening to stateside Z-Car Propaganda is you get a seriously misleading view of the total Z-Car Scene.

It's like saying 75 was the first year for EFI...when JECS was putting out units for 240's in Competition in 71!

Absolute statements, without reservations or qualifications are usually wrong. By the nature of an absolute statement--it's authoratitve voice...it can only be absolutely right, or absolutely wrong... Qualifications and reservations after the fact invoke "mind in gear before mouth in motion" reminders.

  7. I think you're not reading what you find. Everything you ask about is well laid out. If nothing else, a download of a 1983 280ZX/ZXT FSM would detail the differences in spades, from The Factory....no supposition, conjecture, or opinion. Side by side spec sheets on components, stuff like that.

The FSM Is a FREE downloadable PDF...

As for asking about swapping turbo externals to an N/A (WITHOUT MLS Head Gasket)...it's been beaten to death as well, and documented.

    And SERIOUSLY:

"And are the rods different between the turbo and the na, and how much power can the stock bottom end handle? "

    REALLY?

    I project shedding....5...4...3...2...1...

  8. I put in a "returned" gold coloured Centerforce from theMSA "Garage Sale" (returned because someone used the wrong TO Collar and put the fingers "overcenter"...apparently this "damages" the diaphragm.

That was in conjunction with the CF Flywheel.

And that was 112,000 miles ago.

One day, I'm sure it will take a dump. I'll complain when it does and hope I get consideration, like the halogen light capsules that burned out he low. Beams after 13 years...

Damn, thinking about it...not only has that clutch been through 112,00 miles of driving...it has been a multiple-driver car at EVERY MSA AutoX event at the West Coast Nationals! Maybe I won't complain.

Nah, I'll complain...nothing ventured, nothing gained!

  9. You know, if someone is talking about putting their kids in the "back seat"... Consider the 2+2 has proper belt anchors for not only lap and shoulder harnesses but for child seats as well.

I'm sure all over the third world kids pile on to scooters with mom dad brother sister whatever...

Putting your kid in a cobbled seat of an ersatz 240 "conversion"?

    <insert sarcastic Darwin comment here>

  10. Look on the engine I'd plate on the shock tower.

What 3 letter/numbers does you VIN Number start with? HLS or RLS?

After that, the VIN/Engine ID Plate on the shock tower should match the hard VIN in the firewall, and the engine number should match the engine number on the ID Plate. If the engine number doesn't match no biggie...

If the VIN doesn't match you better start looking closer at your car, that's a bad sign!

  11. You want someone to tear up a cam grinder, talk to JeffP... He worked at Erson for years and finds little quirks in a cam profile and smiles "operator paused with the grinding wheel here before starting the cut!" And on it goes.

Different lash pads aren't necessarily different base circle...which is damn hard to so using point of reference machinery today.

But sinking your valves in the seats so slightly different and not trimming the stems for identical height will do that every time!

  12. I used a similar wheel on my triples, but it had a split in it, and a clamping collar---it was designed to be put onto the 10mm rod on a set of triples.

A little threading of the rod, and flling some flats on the end of the triples rod and that would fit on the end just like on any other throttle body. Though I like the one I have...

Great Minds think alike Mutant---you can always make an adapter plate and go smaller!

  13. Cal some local retiree you may know whose an arsehole and enter a small claims suit for the bank levy fee!

It justifies stealing a few first editions out of a Cal State Library with the help of your local Sheriff!

Let me guess, you got WFB as a bank, and there's no way they are going to refund your fees!

I'd at least try that angle---call and mention the Bank Levy was in error, they have re deposited your funds, and you want the levy fee refunded.

Good to see someone else uses the Skype Timer. I Screen-Shot it for close to a year to show my managers that their "have to use travel agency" takes 35 - 45 minutes on average to process my typical flight request!

Have you considered picking up a Magic Jack Plus? I hook mine into my router, to a phone... Anybody can call me just like I was at home...and calling back to the USA it seems more reliably clear than Skype. I actually put them in at the house for my fax line! I love the e-mailed voice messages it does. $125 for 5 years. Beats the hell out of Skype Premium...

  14. 2+2 with the back seat removed and extended seat runners is a very nice ride!

I prefer the 2+2 because I can lay the seat back further than I can in a Coupe...

Hell, you can probably BUY a 2+2 for as much as you're gonna pay for that hideous seat kil!

    I mean, a 2+2 is a 2+2... Nothing wrong with that.

A Coupe is a Coupe damnit! I mean, you're talkin' dogs and cats sleeping together here now!
