also on the MSA studs, which end goes into the head? the long side or the short side? i thought it was the long side but looking at the header mounting plate thickness it looks to be the short side...
I should probably just call MSA...

I just helicoiled my P79 a few weeks ago, if I make it out to the shop tonight I'll get the package and tell you what I used.
how well do heli-coils work? and btw thanks if you do get a chance to check

I was wondering what are the specs on the exhaust studs specifically the thread size...
all i know so far is that they are 8mm (that's what i have read from my MSA receipt)
i ask this because my 2 outside exhaust port bolt heads popped off at some point and time and i couldn't get one of the bolts out and i am just going to rethread it and i don't know what size tap to get...
thanks
-
idk if anyone has said it yet but a 240sx throttle body... read up on the swap, i think all you need is a 1" spacer and a way to rig up the throttle rod
EDIT*** also it might not be too beneficial to a stock motor but you have to start somewhere
-
it might work w/o the mount.. at least until you find a mount at a JYard
-
LOL i had a old rusty wrench lodged under my tray too, i still have it, like a souvenir...
-
i cant afford gloves but i can afford Gojo and band aids...
-
lol im sure that suby was a 10 sec car
-
look in the third pic top left, the part where the studs are is whrer the EGR valve and tube should be...
-
1x2's and 2x4's. Line them up in front of the tires and drive up onto them. Pretty sophisticated eh?
only if you add 2by2's to the equation

Hey man I have 82 front and rear bumpers if you wana trade for your 79-80 bumpers that would be awsome.
I'm in Athens ga but we could meet somewhere half way if you would like.
Thanks.
awesome! are you going to the DNI shootouts? if you are we could swap there...

Have fun!
i always get excited before i go to a J-Yard, you never know what your going to find
-
pikc n pull FTW!
I just went to one for the first time yesterday and they had my same car (same year and same color)! Course, I wouldn't expect anyone to be that lucky....
me and my buddy are going to go on a road trip to a J-yard after spring break, we just have to find one with a 82-83 280zx and a fiero
my local JYard has 3 ZX's all 79-81...

NOOOO!!!! I LOVE YOUR CAR!!!!!
i guess its time for a part out, ill take the wheels the splash guards, the...
lol jk
for real though i hope you do chose to fix it because your car is one of my favorite ZX's

Ok, this thread is a year old but it is my thread lol.
For some reason I didn't get back to this thread but, black dragon nor msa sell the pieces.
ZCar Source sells all 3 pieces of the cover for around $550 USED w/o the reinforcement bar!!!
How do you guys replace yours? Or is this just a j-yard search thing?
-
I would guess it's the black module on the distributor.
i second this,(the ignition control module) if this is the problem it will keep getting worse and worse untill you eventually can't drive the car due to it shutting off... it seems on a lot of 80's cars and trucks these get too hot and just go bad...
its like $110 new (mabe like $30-40 at a J-yard) so try to eliminate every thing else before you do go this route...
it also might be your pick-up coil but i don't know because when i fixed mine i replaced both at one time instead of doing it scientificly...
-
i jacked mine up by the front bumper before, it wasnt fun, but it worked for what i was doing... also same thing for the rear just used the diff. (haven't tried the rear bumper yet lol)
you can use the frame rails just get a 2x4 or something strong and wide that wont crack...
i have tried the pinch welds before... lets just say ill never try that again...
-
I can't believe that no one has said this... any PICS of the FG pannels?
-
Yes.
lol i was gonna say the same thing...
and sanders8800, please tell me that by rally racing you don't mean mub boggin (because you are in GA)

280zx 2by2, I know they're Cragars because I've got a set of those. Aside from that though, I don't know much more about them.

Soileau RB26zcar do you know what those wheels are called? i found a set and was just wondering what they are (if they are the same yours look like 15's and a little wider) mine are 215 60 14, are those the same size as yours?

280zx 2by2 mentioned both items so I thought I'd point the OP in the right direction.
i just said it because i thought it might have been something he hadn't considered
