I'm going to try the BD kit too. Hopefully it fit and will work well, as I would hate to have my doors look like they were hanging partway open.

This is what I'm afraid of. My doors close perfectly, with almost no effort. Of course the seals are dry and have shrunk back. But they're perfectly aligned. I would hate to do anything that introduces any misalignment or problem with the doors because I tried to save a few bucks. Isn't there one door kit that works perfectly but is a bit costly? I'd risk the few bucks that the BD kits goes for, but there has to be a fall back plan- either finding OEM or something that fits that is made today. This is the biggest problem facing my Z today.

Did the doors close OK after installing the BD weatherstrip? If so I'm ordering tomorrow. I was just worrying about that one point, as it seems to be a major problem with many aftermarket seals like these. I still have the original welting, in great condition, just waiting all alone for new rubber to hold on my doors- so I don't have to worry so much about adhesives. Thanks.

Nice deal, what did the shipping work out to? Many times I'll walk away from a marginal deal just because of shipping shenanigans, but if sellers are reasonable, as this one seems to be, it's different. There are just a bewildering number of seats on ebay too. Behind choice of oil, perhaps seats are the second most debated topic? No doubt on your interior- well, of course the whole car too, it's so clean and nice. And I love even more that once you life up the covers, underneath it still shows its true age proudly. The main reason I'm proceeding cautiously in the interior is so I don't cover up the proof of age/originality, mainly utter lack of rust as can be seen in the interior danger zones. (CA. car) Like your car, lift up the carpets and she shows her nice underbelly. Are there any videos of you just nailing the throttle coming out of a well-cambered on-ramp...or anything like that?

Please do! Lake Havasu is the most beautiful place I think I've ever seen! That waterfall!!! Especially film-based. I think they just capture something a digital SLR can never do. Just try to imagine the "dpi" of Kodachrome or Velvia! I do a lot with DSLR, but it still is missing something, IMHO. Perhaps if I switched to 12mp or so... Some of the pix above are astonishingly great- that photo of the flags on the stone building. Wow. Among others.

I have the LD28 Nissan diesel in my boat. So cool to have the same basic engine in one's car and boat! I love the idea of diesel-izing a Z car. Now I'm watching for these LD28 engines on ebay and other places, and I'm gonna find a nice Series One shell with no engine, and build this same thing over the winter, as I'm moving to biodiesel for all of my other cars too- Mercedes 300CD-turbo diesel, and a 300D too.

My county was one of the most hard hit areas. Sunset thru fence, Sandy Hook, NJ I can't wait to upgrade to something around 8-12 megapixels. Now using Pentax 3.2, and an oldie but goodie 3.0. Or my trusty Canon F-1 with about 25 lenses.

Forgive my ignorance- I'm trying to learn more about the impact of cam changes- but do I see a true "lowering" of redline of almost 400 rpm from the first cam grind to the second-starting point? Or is that simply a downward "offset" moving the entire power band lower? These sharper grinds appear to be so aggressive that they can cause valve float much lower in the rev cycle. Just trying to make sense of the trade-offs, and placement of the power curve inside the rev range.

I noticed the warranty still exists on Mobil products, as I have been doing tons of research on oils for weeks now. (Obsessive, I know!) It really is one of the most critical choices to be made for these older cars. The other thing I learned is that as good as the Valvoline VR-1 may be, it might have a "problem" in that it's designed for race use, and as such they planned on frequent oil changes- for each driving session almost- something us street drivers can never expect to come close to. So sustaining the best properties over time seems to be in doubt. As good as it sounds- and I almost picked it out of the huge list of candidates I came up with for my golden girl- I'm going another way for now. And adding a touch more ZDDP to bring my total up to around .18 which I seem to recall is the optimal ratio- with too much not really great either. Obviously I'll double-check on that later. Perhaps someone from Valvoline can make some comments on this subject?

Wow, between this latest dialog, the info linked at this zddp site, and the Valvoline pdf too, I have learned to at least be aware enough of the oil needs of my Z. Many thanks to all who posted here.

All my Z will go, it seems is 95-100, mainly due to gearing I believe, but I had a friend who was a BMW dealer and while he slept in the passenger seat one fine morning on a long drive, I did an indicated 171 on a deserted, straight and freshly-paved highway in his chipped and modified BMW 750il. It felt pretty good. I have gone faster on asphalt, but that was in a Lear 35 on takeoff!

Not intentionally threadjacking but I just had to respond. FWIW, the best reason in favor of satellite radio is NEVER having to listen to another commercial *ever* again on the music stations. No more 8-15 minute breaks. Then being able to listen to the same station/genre of music over any length of a drive without losing the station every hour or 2 runs a close second, and that doesn't even address the many areas without much choice of stations. Then what about the specialty programming- ESPN, racing, baseball, football that appeal to many? Finally, bandwidth and quality beats FM hands down. My time saved from avoiding commercials and simply enjoying the music = priceless. I love not having to listen to all that horrible sales blather as my time's worth much more than a mere $14 a month.

I wish I were closer so I could drop off a few trays of food for the people who will be coming by over the next few days.

Police packages range from only a certified speedometer to slightly beefed-up suspensions and slightly bigger engines, through bullet-resistant tires and super or turbo-charged mills. Likewise, there's city versus highway cars too, and even pursuit cars- my favorite. Some of their cars are totally wimped out. I used to have several friends on the NYSP and even had a few rides with them, and even their cars differed radically, from V-6's to V-8's and some had amazing suspensions too. They used Crown Vic's and Chevy Lumina's then. Not so sure now. Haven't seen many up close recently- thank goodness.

This *is* my "before" picture. I haven't done any work whatsoever to the original paint, so no after* pix. Interior is under construction- so no after pix yet, and since she looks sad with the interior as worn as it appears, there's no before pix until I have the afters to balance that out- as she needs new seat covers, and carpets to replace current badly aged originals and very faded carpet- which I will save. Also adding a lot of sound/heat/vibration matting under the original vinyl and new carpets to replace all of that old horsehair.

Years ago, when driving cross country in my Mercedes 6.9, (what a car!) empty road and very late at night, all of a sudden there was an OK state trooper on my rear bumper. He lit the car up like you see in "Close Encounters". Scared the snot out of us. Clocked us at 163, so how fast did he have to go to catch us??? Bottom line my college roommate was driving. He was FBI at the time, so with a flip of his credentials, the OK trooper let us go with a serious warning not to get caught again in Oklahoma! I asked him how fast he could go and he said 205. I seem to recall he was in a pursuit Mustang, and I remember he had a very streamlined bubble on top. Happened in 1994 as I recall. But he also said that you couldn't outrun the radio- or a shot into your tires if we did it again!

Is there a short answer regarding the supercharger versus turbocharger decision? I don't want to derail your thread, but it's so rare to see this topic. To an inexperienced mechanic, I'd much rather deal with a belt-driven device than hot exhaust, all that piping and an impeller running at tens of thousands of rpm. Thanks.

I usually ask these people if they know the difference between $100 and $!,000. "Of course" they answer. "But it's only a teeny, tiny decimal place though" I respond. People like that will never get it, I fear. With "DATSUN" spelled out on every side of the car too. Nearly on every PANEL! "Nice Jag!" "Oh, I had a supercharged one of those in the 60's" "My Miata is a much better car than that piece of junk." Then there's also the joke that ends with "Iceberg, Goldberg, what's the difference?"

I forget which comic said this joke, aimed at "perceptive" people. George Carlin, I think. He's on the subway, sitting on an old newspaper, and somebody comes over and asks "You reading that paper?" So the comic stands up, turn the page and sits back down, as he told it. Ignorance is bliss.

I'd suggest to you that it would also be helpful to those of use having similar issues (popping out of gear, rubbing) to post what you discovered, and how you fixed it. Was it simple grinding that helped? I was actually wondering if my new boots might be causing my problem before I took off the whole console again.

There's just something about these cars- "betcha can't own just one..." Now I want a 1600 too, especially since I've seen one with an SR20DET mill! And then a Datsun pick-up...and another earlier 240Z, but with with another flavor of RBDET engine. I'm dying to feel one of these cars with around double the stock horsepower. So good luck and bring on the pix. I think it's never too early in a project to follow along with other projects being done- like yours. There's an infinite amount to learn- even on these relatively "simple" cars.
