  1. A antique VG30E (non turbo) has the same hp/liter as a LS1...and the euro spec VG30E (non turbo) has more hp/liter. Hows that make you feel?
  2. Everything about making power is cheaper and more reliable with the VG...the L just has the nostalgia to it - and a mean sound. 300hp on a turbo SOHC VG is literally just a front mount, exhaust and boost controller. haha Then on top of that, its a good bit lighter and can be mounted entirely behind the axle for improved weight balance....plus cheap and easy 3.3L options......better heads, stronger internals etc.
  3. The front works fine. The springs fit in the rear fine, but the 280Z had taller strut towers and thus longer springs and different strut caps...so they'll "work" but not sit properly.
  4. Sounds like he had a MAF wiring issue, MAF issue, or bad CHTS. Some pics from the swap on ours. I need to clean up wiring from the PO's GM ignition module swap next. With my experience in wiring up engine swaps and other stuff, it took less than 4 hours to complete. I found myself relying more on FSM wiring diagrams than the writeup though. Some of the wire colors in the writeup (almost all) didn't match our car for some reason. I also ended up just swapping all 3 of the ECU pigtails because I prefer the Z31 style connectors - they're a much better design that holds the pin better. haha
  5. You can buy Z31 coilovers from Stance (Touge Factory) and Powertrix (HSD) now. No need for any of this anymore
  6. I need a KNOWN GOOD 280ZX turbo Air Flow Meter. Let me know what you have?
  7. I explained to my buddy Raff (Careless) how to do an upgraded PTU from a Pathfinder ages ago...he then did a writeup. Its a awesome upgrade that improves spark greatly...myself and many others since we told people about it have noticed huge improvements in driveability. Its NOT plug and play though, but almost. http://z31performance.com/showthread.php?18665-Upgrade-to-PRW-2-Ign-Control-Module-(Power-Transistor-Unit)
  8. Stock T3 @ 10psi, stock 260cc injectors, stock fuel pressure. VG33, 8.9:1 CR. Mustang dyno!! (generally reads lower than dynojet!) 260whp, 368wtq.
  9. Front coilovers finally ready to go in! Working on Zee Car:
  10. Nope. Its just sitting. Its my brothers project, I hate those crapbox engines. It'll split down the valley with way less power than a VG block.
  11. There are flanges for exhaust manifolds for SOHC...the DOHC (Z32) is oval port, SOHC is round port. This is simple information that is easily found...flanges wont work because of this.
  12. It also does not have turbos....just saying. lol
  13. Easiest way if you want to swap to a DETT...is to start with a Z31. lol
  14. Yup...and VG30ET..stock turbo upgraded to a T3/T4, full exhaust, ebay FMIC setup, 450cc injectors, nistune and walbro 255...450whp for less than $2k in mods. lol
  15. Got the harness.... And turbos Ton of crap: DOH, intake tubes don't clear with the Z31 motor mount brackets...but with the Z32 mount brackets and Z31 mounts the engine sits about 3/4" too high.. Sooo....I win: E30 BMW motor mounts will lower the engine about 1" And no more EGR: Z31 EFI harness out: Z32 in: Turbo clearance pics, keep in mind it'll only gain clearance once the trans is in becuase the engine will then be level, rather than tipped back.
  16. Doors won't even work properly, the 86+ cars have the door handles in a different location. 86-89 doors will work on 84-85s as they have mounting for both door handle positions (inside), but 84-85s dont have the spots for the location 86-89s use
  17. If you're using a T5, swap bellhousing and input shafts into a 84-86 Z31 Turbo T5 and you'll be able to use a Z31 trans mount, driveshaft and shifter location.
  18. Turbos arent in yet, waiting for them to get here...no reason they wouldn't clear though, plenty of room where they go...the only issue might be the intake tubes to the turbos. Also still waiting on my new wiring harness to get here.... As for the ET, theres nothing wrong with it. Its stout and compact, there are plenty of them making 450+whp reliably....my setup I had before this was in the mid 300whp range and was nothing but reliable...but I've had VG30ET z31s for the past 6 years so its time for something a little different. lol
  19. Oil pan had to be modified to clear the steering shaft...other than that, its bolted in with Z31 block mount brackets, z31 motor mounts and NA Z31 crossmember...also trans mount/crossmember is Z31. I have yet to confirm that the turbo intake tubes will fit to the compressor inlet...will find out soon. Might have to go custom mounts if I can't make them clear by just modifying them. Time will tell.
  20. It has stock foxbody manifolds on it currently...going to try some shorty headers and see what fits...might have to be custom on the drivers side to clear the steering shaft, though. A MAC long tube clears everyone on the passenger side so theres a lot of room over there...just not on the drivers side.
  21. AE wheels on pending my new wheels sometime this winter. I sold the 350Z wheels. I started removing some of the Z31 engine-related stuff, like the coil, PTU and coil wiring on the drivers side inner fender. And I think I'm going to run a Z32 shift knob, though I'll have to buy a new one, just because its weighted, which the Z31 knob isnt, and because it looks good IMO. Pulled the plenum for coolant line delete, EGR delete and painting the valve covers... YAY DETT in Z31: lulz And valve covers on DS off:
  22. Its not related to the security system at all, the car won't even crank when the security system is armed. The security light flashes because one of the door/hood/hatch switches is bad. Two completely seperate issues, the light flashing just means it won't be able to arm. Sounds to me like its a connection with the battery cable and when you try to crank it over its losing connection, then once you mess with the connection again it has the connection back for a bit.
