  1. Yeah, A lot of head units can control the XM/Sirius recievers. I really like the pioneer units, though I'm thinking I want to build a carputer with a touch screen. I should be able to get everything I need running w/ that, MP3's, WiFi, GPS, maybe even TV. Either that, or I might look at integrating one of those new lexus mouse controllers onto my center console. speaking of which, you could make an integrated XM module holder in your ashtray. I was going to put the USB /audio input/outputs into the ashtray, so they could be hidden until use. Phar
  2. yeah, pretty nice. So how much do you think it'll cost to get these setup on injection moulding? are there any places near you that do it?
  3. Sounds like a good opportunity to improve your skill set. Learning all the rust remediation processes will make you so much happier that you can DIY. not to mention you'll save a lot of $ on labor, but on the downside, you'll get to buy lots of new fancy tools! And you think your wife thinks you're crazy now... Welcome to HYBZ... Oh post some picts! and maybe your vin if you trust us, we can tell you a lot about your Z from those. Picts really are worth 1000... Phar
  4. I've wondered a lot on all these new manifolds, Why are they all still fed from ont end? either the rear or the front. that would seem that you have a longer distance from the throttle plate to in this case, cyl 1. and shortest to cyl 6. thus starving #1 for some air, where if you built this similar to a tight exhaust header, intake from the center between #3 and #4, with equal length tubes, to all cyl in a radius, you'd concievably have better flow. It's likely only going to be a very tiny improvement, but I still don't understand why someone hasn't tried it. All in all that supercharger setup looks niiice!, I need to look into superchargers for HR engines... it would be interresting to see #'s... Phar
  5. Okay, I just recieved my ECU and BCM. I'll buy the NATS at the dealer since I couldn't get a key at the same time as the ECU/BCM. Keys I'll buy of Ebay probably, there's 100's at like 20 bucks. Still don't know if I can cut a 350Z key to work on a 280 ignition switch. from what I've read the key only has to be within a couple inches of the NATS antenna, so I may be able to get it to work. alternatively, I can zip tie a programmed key to the nats antenna and tuck it up in the dash, and then just use the stock 280z ignition. tho that defeats the immobilizer, which is kinda the point. Here's a list of what I've got and what I need: Datsun 280z VQ35HR swap quant Mfg Item Cost notes 1.00 Datsun 280Z 300.00 78' 1.00 Nissan VQ35HR 900.00 shp incl 1.00 Nissan flywheel 60.00 shp incl 1.00 Nissan Clutch/pressure plate needed (autozone?) 1.00 Nissan 6sp 07 tranny 800.00 shp incl 1.00 Nissan 07 ECU M31 150.00 shp incl (jn1bz34e77m552963) 1.00 Nissan 07 BCM 60.00 shp incl (jn1bz34e77m552963) 1.00 Nissan Engine harness 0.00 came w/ engine 1.00 Nissan Tranny mount 35.00 off my350z, shp incl 2.00 Nissan 350z Cats 118.00 off my350z, shp incl 1.00 Nissan 350z alt, PS 25.00 off my350z, shp incl 1.00 Nissan 350z Starter needed (autozone?) 1.00 Nissan 350z body harness needed ~~ Nissan 350z misc metric bolts needed 2.00 Nissan MAF Sensors needed,pn:226807S000, Got list, any 2004+ nissan should work. ~70 each 2.00 Nissan Intake tubes 50.00 off my350z, shp incl 1.00 Nissan Clutch master cyl / hoses needed 1.00 Nissan gauges needed, maybe. 6. Oh? Flapper sanding disks huh? I wasn't figuring they work that well on welds, but thinking about it, they make a lot of sense. shouldn't hurt the base metal, yet any high spots should sand well.. I'll try them when I get back to my bodywork. I've been looking for a high pressure water blasting paint removal company here, and so far they've been hard to find. I am thinking I may go with wire brush + angle grinder to remove my old paint. Phar
  7. hey doesn't look bad. Needs some fixin' up the 280zx rims are kinda funny lookin on it, but the tires don't look bad. Nice racing strip tho Interior looks pretty good too. n the dash looks fine. pretty decent shape. a full cap would hide any little cracks. tho you may be able to use vinyl patch and patch up your dash... pretty decent. it's always nice to see one saved Phar
  8. Yeah, go off the Stamped Vin on the Firewall, it's the Chasis ID. You'll need to get a Vin inspection, hopefully the VIn in the title matches that chasis vin, or you could have trouble. Other possibility is that if your title only matches the dash/doorplace vins, then you have a moral choice. go by those and grind off the chasis vin, or get a Vin inspection, and hope the chasis vin isn't listed as stolen. it's obvious what the "right" choice is here. You can often just call the state police w/ a vin and say, you're looking to buy a car, and you wanted to be certain it's not stolen cuz the guy gave you odd feelings. . Carfax doesn't do cars this old, or you could get a report, and they'd list if it's been stolen. Phar .
  9. Yeah that's a bummer, the guy had it sold, n got greedy, but hey, it's his car. Don't worry too much about the 280z bumpers, you can always swap 240z bumpers onto it, just don't hit anything. Just like the 240, you'll need to check in all the usual places for rust. it'll be a good car so don't worry. but take them picts! we want to see it! Phar
  10. yeah, What justin said. Really if you can post the Ser # on the body and maybe your vin, along with some pictures it would be A LOT easier to tell you what car you've got. Phar
  11. Hey, nice headlight bucket integration. no seams no rust right? Pretty nice on the access panel integration as well. I guess you're moving the clutch reservior to some other location. I would guess lower mounted looking at those new pedals. it's all pretty nice, but are those really going to be that much better than stock? what are you using to grind down your welds?
  12. So, I found and ordered online the ECU and BCM from an 07 350z. I assume they should work for my engine, unfortunately they won't give me a warranty on the parts since I don't have the original car's VIN # that the engine came out of. Those parts should show up later this week. either that or I got scammed, but I think I'm okay. the Nissan dealer said there's 2 ECU's for the 07/08 350z, one w/ traction control, and one w/o. I was told this is the one without. I asked for the VIN from the donor car on these as well, but I dunno if they'll give it to me, though I thought it was a law that any dismantler had to provide the VIN upon request. I'll need to get the NATS ant, but that's 77 bucks new from the dealer. Does anyone know if you can cut a 350z key to work in a 280z? Phar
  13. Oook! Okay EHWHYROHEN, any updates? how are you liking the close ratio on the shifter? Phar
  14. HEeey!! Cool it looks Much much better witht he paint on it, Nice choice on the orange. You'll need to get some magnetic sign material and cut out some pumpkin shapes next halloween... hehe JK! it really does look cool in that color. it's awesome to see it back together, you sure did a lot of work... So did you paint it yourself, or have someone paint it? What kind of Primer did you use, and was there much sanding in between? I've heard paint systems are best to go with. you know matched paint and primer. Did you pain the interior before you put everything back in? How is the ride with those coil overs? Phar
  15. Yeah, it could be the multi switch. it's not uncommon. but you should check your fusible links before tearing into you switch...
  16. $4500??? Ouch! man that's a little high I think. but it's up to you. It doesn't have a lot of the rust problems that it could. and the rest of it looks pretty good. 190K on the chassis really seems like a lot for that kind of cash. I bought my 280 for $300, n yeah it's not as nice, and I have a little pinholing I have to fix behind the rear wheels, but not 4200 worth. The question is, how much do you not want to have to do a lot of work to it? If you find a cheaper one, will it be in as good condition, no, but again, how much are you going to have to do to remedy the rust issues that one has. I think the guy is smoking crack trying to get $4500, but to me that's a lot of $. if you have the $$$ you could spend that same $$$ fixing up a Z to your liking, if you have the time and patience. it would be yours... have your love in it, and you'd know its weaknesses. or you can spend your $ on this, assuming there's nothing but a little rust. (which is a gamble since you may find more than you expect. it happens) 40K motor isn't a big deal, there's a lot of motors around, some even turbo, for cheap. It's kinda what are you looking for, what do you want the end product to be. Will this saticfy it? Do you want the project, or just the end result, knowing there's no guarantee? Look at it this way: Cheap, Pretty, Fast. Pick any two... Phar
  17. Hmm. okay, that's interresting, I thought with the large intake that it breathed well, I don't remember who said it did. I guess that's why Nissan with to the dual TBs. If he intake was fed more centrally, do you really think it would breath that much more efficiently? I wonder what the stock intake pressure is? not that I'll be making any changes, cept perhaps trying to shave a little height... Tom, Do you have a build thread on yours? Phar
  18. what? you weren't saying you were going to sell the 240z bumpers? I'd be interrested if you were.. but there are for sale areas on here... as for the engine, well there's a few out there, but a lot depends on condition and completeness so try to keep it together if you try to sell it. I don't know much about the value on the older engines tho. there is Ebay and the classifieds, look on there and average the prices... oh darn on the hatch, hehe I was kidding anyway. I think there's a guy here in ABQ that has one.. Phar
  19. looks like it's missing nuts on the mustache bar mount
  20. wow, cool, very nice! If you don't keep the engine in there, then try to keep it together as possible. it's good it's still got the air cleaner, and the SU carbs are good Pretty nice! Phar if I can talk you out of the hatch.? hehe
  21. Hmm yeah that's an interrsting mod set for the plenum, I wonder why they did that, the existing VQ35 plenum is already supposed to breathe very well... Already too the VQ is too tall for a stock hood, so they'll have to put a scoop/bump on that z32. So I just ordered an ECU and BCM for my 07 VQ-HR. There's a PITA to find from the same car, and nobody gives warranties. Sucks butt, but hey hopefully they'll be in good shape.. paid $260 for the pair which is cheap considering how hard they are to find. 06/2007 trying to get the donor veh VIN. Dealer shows 2 ECU's for the 07/08 350z's so I should be in good shape. Problem now is finding the under-dash harness, I though I had it, but turned out it was just the engine bay harness. Phar
  22. Hehe, I help fix yur Z and you bring me lite beer??? hehe just kidding... Wow, That sounds like a pretty awesome deal, 300 bucks for a nearly rust free 72'!! very nice! You'll need parts for it. Search on here, but there's a lot of places you can get them for old S30's... Some are: Misc aftermarket repro: blackdragon MSA Datsun restore Body parts: Tabco Misc parts: EBAY! This along with various junk yards and look up your local Z CarClub, you should be able to find all the parts you'll ever need. Congrats on the find, now how about them picts? Phar
  23. Cars are worth what someone will pay for it. you gotta ask yourself, what is it worth to me, and will someone else pay more for it. If that number is higher than what the people are asking for it, then you should buy it. it looks pretty sweet, though the rust issues, may be deeper than you think, I'd want to get it up on a rack to look at the bottom frame rails and such before buying it. If it looked like that, w/ that low miles and NO rust, it could be a $5K car easy, if not more. But the rust definitely knocks it down. I would guess $2000-3500 depending on the rust. the rest of it looks really sweet, it would be a prime candidate for restore especially if that hatch is the only rust (doubtful)... So how much are they asking? Don't go just on the paint either, most major repairs will mean repainting anyway, but it's certainly looking decent. Phar
  24. Wow. I don't feel so bad, I mean, I've had a few Z's lets see sorter chronologically: 73' 240z (sold) when I was 16yrs old 74' 260z (traded to my dad for next car) sold 78' 280z (given away) 76' 260z 2+2, (nice, gave to brother, n he sold it) 84' 300zx (gave to gf, then she dumped me, imagine that, she kept the car tho) 85' 300zx turbo (sold) 86' 300zx 31Kmi (crushed by a semi 21days after I got it still hurts, still got it for parts ) 92 300zx DD, nice, fun, wish it was TT. 78' 280z, project VQ35HR. (amassing parts...) That's it, 9.. That's not too many in comparison to some of you guys. only 3 currently. That's 1 past my wife's limit, but she want me to be happy. Borini63, them is a lot of cars, what happened to the Black Pearl? that looked sweet, are you a dealer? (car not drug hehe) Phar
  25. actually, looking at the interior closer you might just consider swapping it to black.. lotta missing/damaged pieces. Ebay is also your friend. Needs tail lenses too. So what about the engine, I didn't see any engine picts... Phar, Sorry for 2x post.
